•very little poc representation (the only characters I can recall off the top of my head are nehemia, nesryn and sorscha) and two of them are killed off to progress white storylines (nehemia was killed to progress aelins, and sorscha was killed to progress dorian’s) out of 8 main characters (dorian, chaol, aelin, aedion, rowan, manon, elide and lysandra) none of them are poc
•also very little lgbt representation!! there was that one lgbt couple in hof, that lesbian couple that got one!! line!! and aedion is a confirmed bisexual, but other than that there is no other lgbt representation (send some receipts if there are so I can add them). some authors think that if u have that TokenLGBTCharacter™ that you’re good in representation, but being completely honest you’re not.
•had the opportunity to set up a good lesbian relationship with malide but!!! sjm didn’t go for it, instead she settles on two hetero ships (one is decent, the other is just plain Rude)
•takes her only disabled character (chaol!) and her only alive woc (nesryn!) out of eos. I know that chao gets a novella, but I don’t want a MAIN CHARACTER in the first four books to be pushed aside to a novella
•basically, not enough representation
•every single main character is attractive. even elide, who was abused back when she was a slave and most likely malnourished still has full breasts and a clear face!!! I need more short girls, ugly boys, ppl with stretch marks and a big nose and acne!!
•rowan and aelin. I won’t to into too much detail but rowan has repeatedly told aelin in hof to drop dead, the world would be better without her etc. and also threatens to whip her!!!! even after knowing about her time in endovier ++ also the hit that happened that everyone says happened during their training but it didn’t!!! and of course there’s the time when rowan literally bites!!! her even after knowing how intimate and sexual biting between fae is!! and of course at the end of hof they were supposed to be platonic but end up getting together in the next book…
•also rowan in general. he’s very possessive and territorial about aelin which sjm finds so fucking kink y for some reason but in truth it is actually nasty + how no one can even insult aelin without rowan getting ready to kill them (rolfe?) sjm perpetuates this mindset that the women in tog are Strong™ but are always interfering and not letting the ladies fight their own battles (mostly rowan, but this could apply to aedion as well)
• also aedion calling lysandra a bitch at the end of eos is completely uncalled for. he knows what lysandra has gone through most of her life and still has the fucking a u d a c i t y to call her a bitch
•manon+dorian (m*norian) I’ve already talked about how malide could have been a Good thing in tog but elide had to be paired off with lorcan and manon had to be paired off with dorian. I’m actually not mad at elide and lorcan but oh my god. so at the end of hof sorscha is beheaded & dorian doesn’t have time to mourn bc he gets the valg collar placed on him immediately. at the end of qos and in eos there is little if any mention of sorshca even though dorian should be grieving!!! but he gets put together with manon without getting the proper time to mourn and it is Bad™ also there’s the fact that manon is literally a misandrist and only interacts with men if she has to + to fuck them and kill them but no let’s forget that bc straight ships! I honestly hope it’s with no strings I don’t think I can handle another straight ship
•please realize that Even though tog is heavily flawed I still enjoy some aspects of it. if you honestly can’t handle me shit talking your favorite series bc you’re so far up sjm’s ass them sorry
