(Puck/Ash ship)

The way Summer's Crossing describes that Puck can only use glamor to disguise Ash when Ash lets down his defenses is just giving me feels like.

It's just so much trust. But also the idea that when they're dating, Ash would fully trust him and also let down his protective barrier at times, because he's just so damn cold. Like the final spin off has that scene in summer from Ash's pov, where he says how he is keeping the air around him cool because it's fucking hot.

But then picturing him being with Puck, and just not doing any of that and making an effort to let it all down a bit, just so he's not a freezing block of ice to cuddle.

Which is 1) just nice and Ash wants affection so better make sure Puck doesn't freeze and 2) the trust😭😭😭

I don't know why Meghan had to look like Ariella when the concept of Ash asking Meghan to dance for the sake of tradition, this half-human swamp girl going "fuck you and the horse you ride on", and Ash immediately being charmed by it is so much more fun.

Kinda like the idea of Ash struggling with gentle/romantic touch after years of nothing but fighting and throwing himself in situations where he would get hurt.

That would certainly complicate things a bit between him and Meghan.

Here's the thing with Rowan being fond of Ari and Rowan being Rowan, is that in order for Ari and Rowan to be friends, Ari had to be a little bit of a bastard. And I love that for her— we get so much of her from Ash's perspective, who has idolized her in his mourning to perhaps the point of (accidental) dehumanization, but she was friends with Rowan! Known bitch and overall shitty person! She has the type of personality that would get along with him, Ash, and Puck, and didn't see that as a conflict of interest. which means she wasn't a perfect saintly figure. She was Prince Ash's lady (or maybe his knight???) and got along with his best friend without ever feeling insecure or jealous, but she was also Prince Rowan's weird friend. I bet they committed war crimes together when Ash and Puck weren't looking. I bet they went on the least ethical hunts.

Just thinking about how angry Rowan must've been to push him to the point of betraying his family and court. Like, his family sucks, but wanting to wipe everything out? That's some next level.

Just that no matter how hard he works, he'll never get anything out of it. No matter how good he is, he can't be like Sage who has a chance of becoming king. He can't rise higher than what he is, and if Sage is king, he only gets in a lower position. He takes on security and fights and bleeds for court, but Mab will never give him more than he has.

And then there's Ash, who doesn't even get a position like he has. Instead he gets freedom. He can leave court for months. He gets friendship. A relationship. He slacks and cares more for his personal life than working hard at court, like Rowan has to. And yet Mab clearly favors him. She lets him get away with stuff she would never let Rowan do.

It's a slow building poison that gets worse and worse. Just hatred for all of them.

I think that if the winter court was going to have the whole “Rowan flirting with Meghan” and “those girls being catty to Meghan because she likes Ash” scenes it should have committed and gone full harem anime. Ash is of course your tsundere archetype, Rowan is trying to seduce her for sport, Tiothian is going full on flirtation/insuendos, Snowberry or whatever her name is doing rivals-to-lovers, Sage absolutely refuses to engage in any of this but while he bleeds out Meghan calls him honey to try to comfort him, making Ash genuinely think they were seeing each other behind his back. The winter court is in shambles over this half-human girl. Mab wants to ice her over just to get them back to normal but fears making her into a statue will make everyone MORE weird.

By the time Meghan and Ash finally get to sleeping together in book 3 Ash says “wait this is your first time so you need to tell me if I need to be more gentle” and Meghan goes “buddy Tiothian beat you by at least 5 months” and this derails everything for at least 30 minutes.

This would be even more fun when literally no one except puck is interested in her from the summer court. And Oberon and mab are just standing there screaming that she is a SUMMER fae

Some thoughts about Mab:

Imo Mab is a better parent than Oberon by far. (oberon hater oops) Don't care if she is cruel. When she lost all, she still lowkey helped Ash.

Now some other thoughts. I kind of feel bad for her? She is a cold Queen, I mean she is the Queen of Winter, she has to be cold and cruel, that's literally her way, she cant be a all sweet loving mother. But she lost all her sons. In literally less than a year or so (Idk how long exactly it's been a while since I read it).

Sage got killed, Rowan betrayed her, Ash left because of love. And suddenly after centuries with her sons, she is alone.

Now my thoughts: I think I can imagine her wanting another child. So what if Mab, after the war and all, gets a daughter. Contrast to the three sons she had before.

At first Ash and Keirran don't even know and she keeps her a secret until she is a little older (because Faerie is dangerous and all).

And she also changes the way she acts around her. Because she lost all her previous children. Either they died or betrayed her and the court.

And she kind of had a little change of heart already since she tries more. So maybe her parenting style is like 5% less cruel now.

Then one day she finally let's Ash and Keirran meet her. And how would Ash react? Ash, a half human, emotions more prominent, after seeing how Meghan and Ethan interact? Could he feel worried for his suddenly new little sister who is alone at the Winter court? At least Sage, Rowan and Ash were 3 at Mab's court. 3 people to get punished and divided attention. This time, this girl is all on her own.

Would Ash try to act more like a real brother? I mean he has nothing really to lose. He lives at the Iron Court with Meghan so ehh, he can be a little nicer. And maybe Mab would also act a little more mother-like around him now?

I think it would be such a cute family dynamic🤧😔😭

Rowan is awful. Sadistic asshole and an idiot.

But. I do like the idea that at least one of the princes said fuck you Mab, and wasn't devoted to death to her. I know Ash does get there eventually, but it's not really the same.

Rowan got to that point all by himself, it's just dark and while we don't get much backstory for him, it's telling about how he was treated and raised (I know the books kinda explain it as 'he was always jealous and evil, as Sage says, but I like to headcanon more there.)

i mean it certainly looks like it, with all the weird little details that go nowhere. the roses seem to curl inside out, the vases (?) next to the stacks of coins (?) are clunky

its disappointing to say the least, and does not inspire me to find out what's inside of the book. i was on the fence already, but now im definitely not reading it, least of all paying for it

Not to be spicy on main but y’all realize you can like. Look up artists. Instead of blacklisting entire styles of design as AI and citing “looks like it”.

The cover artist is listed as Franziska Stern, she specializes in digital cover art, has been designing covers for thirteen years, and says on her site that she doesn’t use AI. You can check out her other works here.

Personally I think her covers vary in quality, and I’m not a fan of the Fateless cover (especially compared to TTS and BoE covers), but she is still an artist. It’s shitty to immediately deem something AI when a 30 second google search would prove otherwise, and then spread misinformation about it. The publishing industry is, as a rule, transparent about its art sourcing (almost like the publishing industry knows a lot about copyright and has to credit its photographers and artists) so there’s no excuse not to.
