hey quick question, did you see when Juliana said that the eyes are the window to your soul Valentina tried to avoid looking at Juls eyes?! you think that it meant sth???
Yes for sure. At this point in the story Valentina is very traumatized by everything that has happened and she is coping with it, or rather refusing to cope with it, by closing herself off. With Juliana the feeling only gets more intense because they have this incredibly strong connection and one of the ways in which it has been established is the way they look at each other, how they can communicate only with a stare or with looking into each other’s eyes. In the context of the scene, doing that would mean re-awaken the intensity of that connection, and at this point Valentina is simply too vulnerable for that, so she looks away. That’s where they’re different in how they process traumatic events, or even just upsetting events. Valentina is very vocal and outward about her pain, but she shuts down her connection to the people around her, whereas Juliana internalizes her own pain, doesn’t talk about it, but she reaches out, she craves connection.
It’s why I’m so heartbroken for Juliana in this scene, because not only she doesn’t get to process the trauma of everything she went through, but her coping mechanism is shut down by Valentina’s rejection. Valentina knows she has Juliana’s support, Juliana stated out loud that she is there for Valentina if she ever needs her, but what she gets in return when she asks fro connection is Valentina’s request to be left alone.
We know how respectful Juliana is of Valentina’s boundaries, she even refrained from calling her after the hostage situation because Valentina had asked so despite being worried sick, so the fact that she still tries to go for the “We can be here for each other as friends” after Valentina brought up that wall, to me shows just how badly Juliana actually needs comfort, and the fact she isn’t getting it from anyone wrecks my heart.
Suddenly I feel less depression if they won’t be together finally. The love between them is so strong & selfless. But it’s also too painful.
