Second chapter of my Bakugo x reader/ oc
Riyo had moved in next door to the bakugo family a year after her mothers death. Mitsuki and Masaru had visited the same night the pair settled in, pulling a very reluctant blonde boy the same age as riyo behind them.
And just like that it had begun. a collision course neither of them understood yet. From that day, Bakugo and Riyo would grow up side by side, two kids orbiting each other like twin stars destined to crash.
Over the next year they grew close. bakugo had finally found someone who didn't crumble when he yelled, someone who shoved argued and bit back. And Riyo had found a friend her age who didn't look at her with that soft, pitying expression adults sometimes slipped into when they thought she wasn't watching.
Bakugou didn't know anything about her past, he didn't care. he just saw a kid who could keep up with him, who could match his fire with her own, who didn't back down even when she probably should have.
She liked that about him. He liked that about her. They didn't know it then, but it was the start of something bigger, messier, louder than either of them could imagine.
---AGE 10 -
Bakugo hammered his fist against the door like he was trying to break it down, impatience radiating off him in waves.
The door swung open, and Riyo's dad blinked down at him, surprised but not unfamiliar with the sight of Katsuki Bakugo on his doorstep.
"Katsuki," he said gently. "Everything alright?"
Bakugo huffed, crossing his arms. "Is Riyo home?"
"I'm sorry," her dad said, voice soft. "She's away today. She'll be home later."
bakugo's face twisted, somewhere between annoyance and disappointment, though he'd rather die than admit the second part. "Tch. Fine."
He spun on his heel so sharply his shoes scraped the pavement, stomping back toward his house. Riyo's dad watched him go, a small, knowing smile tugging at his mouth.
Bakugo didn't look back. He just shoved his hands into his pockets, muttering under his breath as he stormed across the lawn.
"Stupid... going somewhere... didn't even tell me..."
He kicked a pebble hard enough to send it skittering across the path.
-- MIDDLE SCHOOL ---
1st year -
Middle school hallways always smelled like floor polish, cheap perfume, and sweat, and today was no different. Riyo was at her locker, swapping out books when a shrill voice cut through the hallway.
A girl with pink‑and‑blonde bunches stormed up to her, face twisted, voice already cracking from how hard she was yelling.
"Don't pretend you don't hear me, you slut! Walking around like you're better than everyone acting all tough- you think anyone actually likes you?!"
Riyo didn't even look up at first. She slid a notebook into her bag, shut her locker with a soft click, and finally turned her head, expression flat, unimpressed, almost bored.
The girl took that as encouragement. "Yeah, that's right, look at me! You think you're hot shit just because? Please. Everyone knows you're just a try hard who's mommy died-"
Riyo moved. She grabbed a fistful of the girl's hair, yanked her forward, and slammed her face‑first into the locker beside them. The metal rang out, echoing down the hall. A few kids gasped.
The girl whimpered, hands scrambling at Riyo's wrist. Riyo let go, letting her slump against the locker, dazed. That was when she noticed him.
A small, freckled boy standing a few lockers down, clutching his notebook to his chest. eyes wide. Mouth slightly open.
Izuku Midoriya. He squeaked when she made eye contact.
Riyo raised an eyebrow. "What?"
He shook his head quickly, waving his hands. "N‑nothing! I just- I didn't- I mean-"
He swallowed, cheeks pink. "So this is the girl Kacchan is always hanging out with..." Midoriya stared at the dent in the locker, then at the girl still groaning on the floor, then back at Riyo who was throwing her bag over her shoulder and walking off down the hall.
---2nd year---
Riyo and Bakugou had a talent for ending up exactly where they weren't meant to be. Trying to skip maths hadnt gone as they had planned when two third‑years had cornered them behind the gym.
bakugo couldnt keep his mouth shut and the older kids took an instant dislike to him.
One of the older boys swung first a wide, stupid punch that Riyo dodged, but not cleanly. His knuckles clipped her nose, and she staggered back, blood spilling warm and sudden down her lip.
She wiped it with the back of her hand, looked at the smear of red.
She launched herself forward, grabbed her school bag by the strap, and swung it. It cracked across the boy's face with a satisfying thud, sending him stumbling sideways into the wall. Before he could recover, she swept his legs out from under him, dropping him flat on his back.
Bakugou barked a laugh even as he fought the other one. "That's what you get, dumbass!"
She grabbed her bag again, sprinted toward them, and swung it like a bat. It slammed into the older boy's ribs with a hollow whump, knocking the air out of him and giving Bakugou the opening he needed.
He punched the kid point‑blank, sending him skidding across the floor.
Up above, from a classroom window, Izuku Midoriya watched with wide, horrified eyes. He'd only meant to get a drink from the fountain but heard yelling and wanted to see what was going on.
But then he noticed a teacher sprinting down the hallway, eyes locked on the chaos.
Riyo saw him too. "Shit," she muttered, grabbing her bag and Bakugou's arm in one motion. "We're leaving."
"Hey-! I wasn't done!" Bakugou snapped, trying to twist back toward the fight.
She yanked harder. "You wanna get suspended? Move."
Bakugou growled but didn't resist again. Riyo dragged him off, both of them sprinting just out of sight as the teacher rounded the corner and found two groaning third‑years on the floor.
-Third year---
"Now third years" the teacher up the front calls out "its time you all start thinking about your futures, of course I could hand out job forms"
"But... Why bother? I know you all want to go to the Hero Track!" he sighed, watching as everyone in the class cheered, each showing off there quirks.
"yes, yes, you've got some very impressive Quirks but no power usage allowed in school." the teacher sighs, trying to calm the class down "Get a hold of yourselves..."
"Hey, teach..." all eyes land on bakugo, his legs propped up on his desk, his head tilted back abit, and a shit eating smirk plastered on his lips. "Don't lump me in with this bunch of losers. I'm the real deal but these guys will be lucky to end up as sidekicks to some busted D-lister."
"You think you're better than us, Katsuki?!" someone snaps. bakugo smirks and tilts his head to look at them
"Let's go, I'll take you all on!" he yells, pushing up from his desk
"Huh, you've got impressive test results. Maybe you will get into U.A. High."
"He's gonna try for the national school?!" one boy whispers.
"That school has a 0.2% acceptance rate! It's impossible to get into!"
"And that's exactly way it's the only place worthy of me." bakugo shoves one foot onto his desk, his other on the ground. "I aced all of the mock tests. I'm the only one at this school who stands a chance of getting in. I'll end up more popular than All Might himself! And be the richest hero of all time!"
"People all across the world will know who I am and it all starts with U.A. High!"
"Oh yeah" the teacher speaks up, cutting bakugo off "Midoriya and Riyo... Don't you want to go to U.A. too?"
the whole class erupts into laughter, looking between Midoriya who's face flushes and he try's to hide away and riyo who was glancing out the window.
"Midoriya?"
"You're kidding, right? There's no way of getting into the Hero Course without a Quirk."
Riyo finally turned her head, slow and lazy, eyes half‑lidded. she looks at bakugo and he rolls his eyes before he turns away, she drops her head back onto her desk as he glares towards izuku
"Listen up, Deku... You're even worse than the rest of these damn rejects, you Quirk-less wannabe! You really think they let someone like you in when they could have me?" bakugo storms towards izuku who shrinks back on his chair.
"No way! You've got it all wrong. Really! I'm not trying to compete against you. You gotta believe me! It's just that... I've wanted to be a hero since I was little. I may not have an quirk... But I can still try my hardest, can I?"
"You'd never be able to hang with the best of the best. You'd die in the exams! Defenceless Izuku! The schools already crappy, you really wanna embarrass it more by failing so hard?" bakugo snarls.
------------
Class ended, chairs scraped, everyone spilled out. Riyo stayed behind a second to shove her notebook into her bag and that's when the two girls slid in front of her like they thought they were in some kind of teen drama.
She didn't even bother looking up. "If you're about to confess your undying love, get in line."
One scoffed. "Please. We just wanted to say there's no way you're getting into U.A."
Riyo blinked once, slow. "Riveting. Anything else?"
The second girl stepped closer, chin up like she was trying to look taller. "Don't act all big just because your mom was a pro hero. That doesn't make you better than anyone."
"You know, for someone who acts so tough, you're a nobody. All bark, no bite. Hiding behind Bakugo like a scared little dog."
Riyo blinked once. Slow. Bored. "Wow," she said, lips curling, "you practiced that in the mirror, didn't you?"
The second girl scoffed. "You think you're better than everyone."
Riyo finally met their eyes, amusement flickering. "I don't need to be better than anyone. Just better than you two, which isn't exactly hard." She looked them up and down, snorted softly. "I mean, come on."
the first girl went for the low blow, voice dripping with fake innocence. "If your mom was so strong, she wouldn't have died. Guess she wasn't that impressive."
"Oh no," riyo said flatly, hand to her chest in mock horror. "Not the dead‑mom card. How original. Really digging deep today, huh?"
The girl faltered. That wasn't the reaction she expected.
Riyo stepped past them like shoulder checking the ringleader hard enough to make her stumble. "Try harder next time," she turned "Or don't. I don't really care."
She walked straight toward the familiar sound of Katsuki's voice. He was looming over Deku again, palms sparking, eyes narrowed. Same old routine.
Riyo slid in beside him, resting her arm across his shoulder with casual weight. Deku glanced up at her, wide‑eyed and hopeful in that pathetic way he always was.
She didn't look at him. Instead, she grabbed a fistful of Katsuki's hair and yanked his head back sharply.
"How many times," she said, voice low and irritated, "leave him alone."
Katsuki snarled, swatting at her hand. "Oi-! Don't pull my damn hair!"
"Then stop bullying him," she shot back, leaning on him harder. "You look like an idiot."
He clicked his tongue, sparks dying down, but he didn't argue further which, for Katsuki, was basically a surrender. Riyo slid her hand into his pocket, fished out a handful of coins, and stepped away.
"I'm not waiting for you," she said over her shoulder, already walking toward the door. Katsuki sputtered. "Oi-! That's mine!"
"Not anymore," she called back, flicking him a grin.
Kemuri black curls bouncing, grin already forming pushed off the wall the second she moved. He'd been watching the whole thing, amused, impressed, and maybe a little too eager. He jogged after her without hesitation.
------
Tesaki and Bakugo came down the hall later. Katsuki was muttering under his breath, hands shoved in his pockets, sparks still twitching at his palms. Tesaki trailed beside him, fingers stretching and retracting in that absentminded rhythm he always had.
They pushed through the doors toward the courtyard vending machines and froze.
Riyo was leaning against the wall one foot propped up, cigarette pinched lazily between her fingers. Kemuri was pressed against her, curls falling into her face as he kissed her like he'd been waiting all day for the chance. Her arms were looped around his neck pulling him in closer.
Tesaki blinked. "Uh... dude."
Bakugo didn't even slow down. "That's fucking disgusting," he said flatly as he walked past them.
Riyo broke the kiss with a grin. She slipped out from under Kemuri's hands like smoke, flicked ash off her cigarette, and hooked her arm through Bakugo's without missing a beat.
"You're just mad I didn't steal your first kiss."
Bakugo snarled, jerking his arm but not actually pulling away. "Shut up. And get that thing out of my face."
Riyo took a drag just to blow the smoke upward, nowhere near him, but close enough to annoy him. "Make me."
Kemuri just laughed, hands sliding into his pockets, watching the two of them. Tesaki shook his head, muttering, "You two are gonna get us all suspended."
Riyo shrugged. Bakugo clicked his tongue, sparks snapping at his fingertips. "You're a pain in my ass."
---
"deku is an idiot, dreaming like some brainless kid, just watching it pisses me off!" bakugo yells, blowing the can in his hand before crushing and tossing it to the side.
"why don't we go to the arcade for a change of pace?" tesaki suggests
Riyo groaned, rolling her eyes. "Can't. My dad wants me home. You idiots go have fun."
tesaki leans forward, taking the cigarette from Riyo's lips and putting it into his own mouth.
"suit yourself riyo, we will make sure to get you something nice!" he waves, extending his fingers. She peeled away from them offering a small wave before heading down the opposite street.
---
Riyo stepped out of the shop with a drink in one hand, gum in the other, the bell above the door jingling behind her. She wasn't even thinking about Bakugo anymore she was thinking about getting home before her dad started pacing the living room again. She'd barely taken three steps when the sound hit her.
Screaming. Real screaming. Not kids messing around. The kind that makes your stomach drop before your brain catches up.
People were running past her, shouting, pointing down the street toward the riverbank. Riyo froze for half a second, head snapping toward the noise and then Kemuri and Tesaki came tearing around the corner like their lives depended on it.
Kemuri grabbed her arm so hard it almost made her drop her drink. His face was pale, curls wild, breath ragged.
"Riyo-Riyo, we need to run," he gasped. "Katsuki- he-he's been taken over by some villain."
Her heart stopped.
"What?"
Tesaki was panting, fingers stretching and retracting in panic. "Some sludge thing he's stuck he can't-"
Riyo didn't wait for the rest. She ripped her arm free and sprinted.
The closer she got, the louder the chaos became sirens, shouting, the wet, horrible sound of something shifting and swallowing. A crowd had formed, people pushing forward and stumbling back, phones raised, voices overlapping in panic.
Riyo shoved through them, elbowing bodies aside, ignoring the curses thrown her way. She could hear explosions and her chest tightened.
Heroes stepped in front of her, arms outstretched. "Kid, back up! It's not safe!"
"Move," she snarled, trying to push past.
Another hero grabbed her shoulders. "We can't let you-"
She fought like a wild animal, twisting, shoving, teeth gritted. "Let me through! That's my-just let me through!"
She caught a glimpse between bodies Katsuki's face twisted in panic, half‑submerged in the sludge villain's mass, explosions sputtering weakly inside the creature. His eyes were wide, terrified, desperate.
And Midoriya stupid, shaking, crying Midoriya was clawing at the sludge with his bare hands, screaming Katsuki's name, slipping in the muck as he tried to dig him out.
Riyo's breath punched out of her. She shoved harder, slipping past the hero's grip for a split second just enough to get closer, just enough for Katsuki's eyes to lock onto hers.
The heroes shouted behind her, but she was already slipping through the smallest gap in their line, boots skidding across the pavement as she sprinted straight toward the monster swallowing Katsuki whole.
The sludge villain reared back, its mass rippling, a wet roar vibrating through the air as it tightened around him.
"HEY!" she screamed, stepping closer, fists clenched. "GET THE HELL OFF HIM!"
The sludge villain turned, a grotesque face forming in its mass. "Another brat...? Fine. I'll take you too-"
Riyo didn't let him finish.
She thrust her hand forward, energy crackling at her fingertips. too emotional to be safe. A concussive pulse exploded from her palm, slamming into the villain's side. It didn't break him apart, but it made him writhe, loosening just enough for Katsuki to gasp a breath.
"S-shit!" he choked, voice barely audible.
"Katsuki-give me your hand!" she shouted, voice cracking
His fingers twitched, barely visible, barely free. The villain snarled, tightening again, trying to drag him deeper.
Riyo didn't let it.
She lunged, grabbing his wrist with both hands, her grip iron‑tight. The sludge immediately surged up her arms, burning cold and suffocating, but she didn't let go.
"Got you," she hissed through her teeth. "I've got you, idiot."
Katsuki tried to blast again, but it fizzled uselessly inside the creature. His eyes were wide, terrified, locked on hers
The villain roared, its mass surging, trying to yank Katsuki back. The force nearly ripped Riyo off her feet, her shoes sliding across the pavement as she fought to hold on. Heroes were shouting behind her, running toward her, but she didn't hear a word.
All she heard was Katsuki's ragged breathing and the wet, horrible sound of the sludge tightening around him. She braced her foot against a broken chunk of concrete, muscles screaming, and pulled with everything she had.
"LET. HIM. GO!"
The villain lurched, its form destabilizing from her earlier blast. Katsuki's arm slipped free up to the elbow, sludge peeling away in thick strings. Riyo gritted her teeth, pulling harder, her fingers digging into his skin.
"Come on, Katsuki- come on-!"
He coughed, choking on air and sludge, but he tightened his grip on her hand, knuckles white. All Might's arrival hit the street quickly.
One second Riyo had Katsuki's wrist in her hands, dragging him out of the sludge with every ounce of strength she had the next, a massive shadow dropped between them and the villain, wind whipping her hair back.
Midoriya stumbled as the shockwave of All Might's landing rippled through the crowd. Riyo grabbed him by the back of his shirt before he face‑planted, but the sudden movement made her lose her grip on Katsuki. His hand slipped from hers, swallowed back into the sludge with a sickening slurp.
"NO-!" she lunged again, but All Might's voice boomed over her.
"Young lady GET AWAY FROM HERE!"
The force of his command hit harder than the wind. Riyo froze for half a heartbeat, then yanked Midoriya behind her, pulling him back as All Might squared his stance.
She'd never seen him actually in person. He reared his fist back, muscles coiling, air pressure bending around him. The sludge villain shrieked, trying to shield itself with Katsuki's body.
Riyo didn't think she threw her arm out, energy flaring, a shimmering force barrier snapping up around her and Midoriya just as All Might's punch detonated the air.
"DETROIT... SMASH!"
The world went white.
Wind slammed into her barrier like a freight train, rattling her bones, pushing her back several steps. Midoriya clung to her arm, eyes squeezed shut, screaming something she couldn't hear over the roar.
The shockwave tore through the street, blasting the sludge villain apart in a spray of green muck. And in the middle of it All Might's massive hand closed around Katsuki's torso, pulling him free like he weighed nothing.
The force died down. Riyo let the barrier drop, breath shaking, sweat dripping down her temple. Midoriya collapsed to his knees beside her, gasping.
She turned to him sharply. "What the hell were you thinking?"
He flinched, eyes wide, still trembling. "M‑my legs... they just... moved on their own..."
Riyo stared at him for a long moment. She exhaled, tension bleeding out of her shoulders. "You're an idiot," she muttered. "But... are you okay?"
Midoriya nodded weakly. "Y‑yeah. I think so."
"Good." She pushed herself to her feet, helping him up. "Stay behind me."
The pro heroes were already rushing in shouting orders, securing the area, swarming around All Might and the half‑conscious Katsuki in his arms. The crowd surged forward, phones raised, voices overlapping in awe and panic.
two pro hero's turned on Riyo and Midoriya. One pointed straight at them, face red with anger. "You two! What the hell were you thinking running in like that?! You could've been killed!"
The other jabbed a finger at Midoriya. "Especially you! Quirkless kids don't get to play hero! You should be ashamed of yourselves!"
Midoriya shrank instantly, shoulders curling inward, eyes wide and wet. He opened his mouth to apologize but Riyo stepped in front of him "You're yelling at us?" she said, stepping forward, jabbing a finger right back at them. "For doing your job?"
The first hero sputtered. "excuse me!"
"No, you were standing around with your thumbs up your asses," Riyo snapped. "You didn't do a damn thing until All Might showed up."
The second hero bristled. "Watch your mouth, kid-"
"Why?" Riyo barked, stepping closer. "Because it hurts your feelings? Because it's true?"
People nearby turned to look. Phones lowered. The crowd quieted. Riyo didn't stop.
"You let a kid get swallowed alive," she said, pointing toward where Katsuki wa "You stood there while he screamed. You stood there while two middle schoolers had to go and do your jobs for you!"
The heroes looked stunned embarrassed, furious but Riyo wasn't done.
"If anyone here should be ashamed," she said, voice rising, "it's the so‑called professionals who didnt do shit!"
The first hero tried again, weakly. "We were waiting for backup-"
"Yeah?" Riyo scoffed. "Well, backup got here. And it wasn't you."
Midoriya tugged at her sleeve, whispering, "R‑Riyo, it's okay, really-"
"No," she said, not taking her eyes off the heroes. "It's not."
She pointed at them one last time "Next time you want to yell at someone, yell at someone else, dipshits!"
The heroes had no answer. Riyo turned away from them without waiting for one, grabbing Midoriya by the wrist and pulling him away.
Riyo sent Midoriya off with a shove and a muttered "go home before someone else yells at you," and he scurried away, still shaking. She looked back toward the cluster of heroes surrounding Katsuki. He was sitting up now he caught her staring.
For a second, neither of them moved. Then Katsuki jerked his chin a silent, irritated go.
Riyo nodded once, sharp, and turned away. She headed home, adrenaline fading into a bone‑deep exhaustion.
Hiryu her father fussed over her the second she walked in, but she brushed him off with a half‑truth and a tired grin. She showered, changed, tried to sleep.
She couldn't. Hours later, the house was quiet. Her room was dark except for the faint glow of streetlights bleeding through the curtains. She rolled onto her side and saw it.
Katsuki's bedroom light was still on. Riyo sat up immediately.
She slipped out her window with practiced ease, dropping onto the fence between their houses. The wood creaked under her weight, but she didn't hesitate. She climbed over, landing silently in the Bakugo yard, then scaled the side of his house like she'd done a hundred times before.
She reached his window and knocked twice.
Katsuki appeared instantly, glaring through the glass. His hair was still damp from a shower. He slid the window open with a sharp motion.
"What the hell do you want," he muttered, voice low, rough. Riyo swung one leg inside first, then the other and immediately caught her foot on the damn windowsill. She pitched forward with a muttered "shit-"
but Katsuki's hand shot out on instinct, grabbing her arm before she face‑planted into his floor.
She grinned up at him, unbothered. "Aw. You do care."
He dropped her arm "I care about you not breaking my fucking window."
"Sure you do, sparky." She pushed past him and plopped onto his bed. Katsuki scowled, shutting the window behind her with a sharp click.
"I didn't need your help," he snapped immediately. "Or that damn Deku's."
Riyo rolled her eyes so hard it was practically a full‑body motion. "Yeah, okay. You were totally chill while being eaten alive. Real composed. Very manly."
"Shut up."
"You were shitting your pants."
"I SAID shut up."
She smirked, leaning back on her hands. "I leave you alone for five minutes and you go and get kidnapped. Honestly, Katsuki, it's embarrassing."
He clicked his tongue, pacing once before dropping onto the bed beside her with a frustrated thud. He didn't look at her just stared at the floor, jaw tight, hands clenched.
Riyo watched him for a moment, softer now "Deku was pretty fucking brave, huh."
Katsuki's head snapped toward her, eyes blazing. "Don't. Say. His. Name."
She chuckled, unbothered, and stretched out across his bed, hands behind her head. "Touchy."
"Shut up."
"Make me."
He glared at her, but he didn't tell her to leave. He didn't shove her out the window. He didn't even move away. He just sat there beside her, "What the hell is going on between you and that extra."
She blinked. "Extra...? Oh. Kemuri."
Katsuki's scowl deepened. "It's cute, right?" she said, leaning back on her hands.
"No. It's gross."
She snorted. "It started a couple weeks ago. Well-" she paused, scratching her cheek, "actually it started a year ago, but we broke up, and then... yeah."
Katsuki made a noise "That's disgusting."
She laughed and stretched out across his bed, hands behind her head. "Relax, Sparky. You asked."
----
Mitsuki's palm slammed against Katsuki's door. "KATSUKI! GET UP!"
Both of them jolted upright. Riyo blinked, looked around, and froze. "Oh shit."
She scrambled off the bed, tripping over her own shoes as she lunged for the window. Katsuki hissed, "Hurry the hell up!" as she shoved the window open.
She swung one leg out, then the other, dropping onto the ledge and climbing down the siding like she'd done it a hundred times. She hit the grass, sprinted for the fence, vaulted it, and disappeared into her own yard just as Mitsuki opened the door.
Katsuki sat there, hair a mess, blanket half‑on, staring at the empty window
