Symptoms & stages of Nyctivoe infestation
STAGE I — INCURSION (0–72 hours post-exposure) Pathophysiology:
Nyctivoe enters through mucosal membranes (nasal, oral, ocular), and migrates along olfactory and trigeminal nerves establishing micro-colonies in limbic-adjacent tissue.
Symptoms (with or without aid) include metallic or “cold dust” taste, heightened night vision sensitivity, mild euphoria alternating with anxiety, subtle photophobia, and increased awareness of shadows and peripheral movement.
STAGE II — SYNAPTIC SEEDING (3–14 days) Pathophysiology:
Nyctivoe begins neurotransmitter mimicry and establishes control over dopamine, melatonin, and norepinephrine balance. Introduces pheromonal output changes.
Symptoms in unaided hosts include severe insomnia or hypersomnia, emotional flattening or hyperfixation as well as early dissociation, an increased appetite for iron-rich foods, and difficulty recognizing faces in low light.
Symptoms are delayed or masked in individuals with broodmaid aid and include artificially stabilized sleep cycles, reports “clarity” rather than distress, and a normalized pheromonal signature to avoid detection.
STAGE III — LIMBIC CLAIM (2–6 weeks) Pathophysiology:
Organism partially overrides the amygdala’s ability to process threats and introduces predatory calm. The pain response is blunted, but not removed.
Symptoms in unaided hosts are loss of fear response, nighttime hyperactivity, involuntary stillness when observed, difficulty recalling recent emotional memories, and the beginning of mirror-response disruption (not aversion yet).
Symptoms in hosts with broodmate aid are selective empathy loss, and increase in obedience behaviors. Emotional regulation remains intact, and hosts may experience “protective instincts” toward broodmates.
STAGE IV — MORPHOLOGICAL DRIFT (2-4 months) Pathophysiology:
Nyctivoe modifies vascular tone, musculature efficiency, retinal sensitivity, and the skeleton remains unchanged; soft tissues adapt.
Extreme photophobia, vocal register lowering, reduced respiration rate, abnormal clotting behavior, increasing difficulty maintaining human posture at rest.
Symptoms (With Broodmate Aid)
Changes are gradual and controlled, the host retains full speech and motor coordination, physical alterations are purpose-built, not erratic, and pain is minimized through biochemical dampening.
STAGE V — INTEGRATION / FAILURE (3-12 months)
This stage diverges completely depending on aid.
UNAIDED HOST — FAILURE CASCADE:
Neurological overload, vascular collapse, Organ rejection, extreme psychosis or catatonia, death occurs in 78%-91% of cases, and the Nyctivoe organism itself survives only briefly post-mortem.
BROODMATE-AIDED HOST — INTEGRATION:
Nyctivoe establishes permanent symbiosis, host identity is retained but altered, memory continuity preserved, predatory adaptation stabilize, and thus finally the host becomes a viable carrier for Nyctivoe spores & trophozoite.
This is not possession or some curse, this is cohabitation with rewritten priorities.
