Every single day this month has been like Okay sure. Okay sure what the hell. Okay sure. I guess
completely enamoured with this beast
Call me easily impressed, but after thirty-odd years of gaming, boss fight music that starts out with traditional acoustic instrumentation, then when the really good bit kicks in it adds a single electric guitar still gets me pumped every single tine.
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy

Some AAVE speakers pluralize 'child' as 'childrens'. People get racist about this ("It's already plural!"), but 'children' actually comes from Middle English speakers doing the same thing: slapping their plural marker on word already pluralized by an extinct plural marker.
To oversimplify: in Old English, 'childer' ('ċildra') was the plural of 'child' ('ċild'). Middle English developed an '-en' plural marker, which we see in 'oxen'. Instead of updating to 'childen', people slapped their preferred '-en' onto the end of 'childer' - so now we have 'child-er-en'. AAVE carries on this tradition with 'child-er-en-s'.
"Pure" language is just impurity obscured by the passage of time.

Reblogging this manually. Op doesn't want credit for fear of being terminated.
Man, remember when Free The Nipple was a thing and there was an actual substantial amount of feminists who believed even public nudity wasn't inherently sexual and now if you date a short person hundreds of anonymous idiots online will call you a pedophile.
drugs are not evil & eliminating addiction isn't the endpoint of the universe
I don't know which of you needs to hear this but "narc" is not short for "narcissist" when someone calls you a "narc" for snitching they are calling you a "narcotics officer"
technically narc isnt even short for narcotics officer its just cant for Cop, I believe Roma in origin
I read years ago in a book that it was derived from nakk, Romani for nose, as in someone who always has their nose in other people's business
ITS DERIVED FROM "NARCO" AS IN "NARCOTICS" WHAT FUCKING BOOK
Okay you know what pulling back on my derision because i can see how this mistake would be made but narc and nark are etymologically unrelated
Etymology is always doing some shit like this
Convergent evolution.
Linguistic crab
Two entire linguistic traditions have merged to remind you not to be a fuckin narc
You wouldn’t understand
is now a good time to mention that the woman in the screenshot literally runs rotatingsandwiches.com
hello, i was directed to you by some people because i heard you know a bit about music, and I was wondering what a type of synth genre is called because I don't hear it in much media and was curious to learn about it: The genre I'm going to explain, I've called "mystery/mysterious synth" this whole time, because in the media it's connected to it brings a sense of curiosity and dread, whether both of these aspects be external or internal to the characters or theming of said media, I've also heard John Carpenter, Carl Casey, and disasterpiece do this as well but i'm not versed in their music The Adventure Zone: The Beast & The Water OST - The Arch in the Woods Getting on the Train - Infinity Train Vignette: Visions - Hyper Light Drifter OST TL;DR just wanted to know if you knew why sort of synth genre this is with droning (dark?) and some that gives a sense of wonder/curiosity
Hiii! This is a very interesting question. If I had to accurately put it into a broad category I'd probably say that "electronic ambient" is a good enough descriptor.
If I had to pick the closest *specific genre* in terms of sound I'd probably say it sounds similar to dungeon synth, a genre that emphasizes moody, melancholic synth tracks with a fantasy inspiration. It particularly resembles the more atmospheric side of the genre (as opposed to the more folky, medieval-ish side).
However this wouldn't be a completely accurate genre classification, because while the sound is very similar, dungeon synth has a very particular cultural milieu (it was a genre born out of the black metal scene in the 90's, so a big part of its identity comes from the juxtaposition of extreme metal aesthetics with the quietness of atmospheric synth music) which the music you sent me doesn't really share, but I still think it would be the closest in terms of sound.
Here's a couple dungeon synth albums I really like, one very old and one recent, so you can judge for yourself :)
Is there anything sadder than the little chunk of Kikis Delivery Service when Kiki says “I used to really like flying before it was my job” and then gets so burned out that her magic stops working and she cant talk to Jiji anymore and she tries so hard to FORCE the magic that she breaks her mothers broom and stays up all night, alone, trying to make a new one and crying?
And I know it is all ok in the end- Kiki has friends who look out for her and she takes care of herself and finds her place.
But fuck, those 20 minutes just hurt my heart so much.
