An update on mom's Cancer

Hi Tumblr!

Long time no see, eh? I'm afraid I don't have a comic update yet. Since my last post about mom's cancer, my fantastic boyfriend gifted me with a flight ticket to Denmark, so I could be there as she went through surgery. I landed late in the evening the day before the surgery, and mom and dad picked me up at the airport.

She had her left breast completely removed, along with 14 or so lymph nodes in her armpit. The surgery took about 4 hours, and she was awake and alert after only 15 minutes in recovery. When she had her spinal surgery last year, she was so fuzzy from the anaesthesia, that it took almost two days for her to come around. She didn't register people around her and her speech was really odd. It was very scary, so it felt so amazing to have her awake and normal after only 15 minutes.

We (dad, grandma and me) sat with her for hours after the surgery, and both of my brothers joined after work. Tons of chatting, laughter and jokes followed! We were all super relieved to see her doing so well.

Her surgery was on a Monday, and she was back home on Wednesday, which left us with one day together before I went back to Holland. She's doing super well (although she is in quite a lot of pain) and everything is healing really nicely.

Today the results of the cultivation came back, and she will be needing chemotherapy and radiation therapy to kill any remaining minute cancer cells. Obviously we had all hoped she'd need no further treatment, but better to kill everything, than miss a cell or two.

That's the update on mom! I told her that my internet buddies/friends/contacts/followers had all been wishing her the very best, and she told me to thank you all from her! It made her tear up a little that so many people she has no contact with, all felt for her. Thank you from us both!

I am still open for commissions! While I no longer need to aim for a plane ticket, I hope to gift mom with some super beautiful (and also expensive x.X) bras for Christmas, from Amoena, of the sort that will keep her 'fakie' (the temporary breast prosthetic she got at the hospital, it is awful and she'll get a much better and much more realistic one later, but for now it's good) from sliding all over. So consider getting a commission, or simply help spread the word :D

This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Alvaro Munera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”

You know this story is utter bullshit, right (no pun intended)? Sometimes you need to check up on stories, before you believe them. This NOT Torero Alvaro Munera, but Francisco Javier Sánchez Vara and he is NOT saddened by having to "prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight".

Sitting on the ‘strip’ around the ring after the sword has been placed in the bull is a knowndesplante, or act of defiance, within the part-scripted, part-improvised spectacle that is the corrida de toros. Whatever the corrida is, it is certainly not a fight (the English word bull-fight derives from our foul old pasttime of baiting bulls with dogs), and the concept of fairness or sport no more enters into the corrida than it does the slaughterhouse.

Just one thing I forgot to add about that virus post, for anyone in IT that’s following me, it will be encrypting files for up to 24 hours before it alerts you. It will create a full list of encrpted files in the user’ registry.

IT PEOPLE: HKCU\Software\Crypto***\Files (*** will eitherbe some numbers, or the word locker, something like that).

EVERYON ELSE: If you think you might’ve goofed, SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER ASAP. Get it to someone that can mount your hard drive and check for the virus for you using the above information.

WARNING ABOUT A REALLY NASTY NEW VIRUS.

Meet CryptoLocker. It’s your worst nightmare. A lot of antivirus software, including the big names, cannot yet detect or stop it. If your computer gets it, CryptoLocker takes all your files hostage by encrypting them and giving you a certain amount of time to send a certain amount of money to the man behind the virus.

The encryption is very tidy, and so far seems uncrackable (well, crackable, but it might take a couple centuries). If you tamper with the virus itself, it will pretty much self-destruct and take everything with it. And the way the money is transferred, the dick programmer behind it all for the moment is pretty much uncatchable.

YOU CANNOT GET RID OF THIS VIRUS WITHOUT COMPLETELY WIPING YOUR COMPUTER. YOUR ONLY CHANCE IS PREVENTION AND PREPARATION.

Back up your computer to something like an external hard-drive, or even an internal hard-drive that you just take out and stuff away somewhere for safe keeping. Make sure your antivirus is up to date, avoid skeevy sites, and don’t open random emails. DO NOT download email attachments unless you know exactly what it is, because that seems to be how this is primarily being transmitted.

We’ve actually run into this at work. It’s extremely aggressive and a major fucking pain to get rid of. One of our guys got infected with it and even paid the company whatever fee they charge to decrypt the files, and due to “an error processing the first payment”, ended up double-charging him (no refunds, of course) and is virtually untrackable.

Literally fuck this guy with a cactus. Like, if you see him, offer to introduce him to your little cactus friend in a quite personal and intimate manner. This shit is FUCKING INEXCUSABLE.

Also, bulk up on your virus protection, limit your porn and illegal cartoon-watching and torrents to safe sites, DO NOT OPEN EMAIL ATTACHMENTS UNLESS YOU’RE EXPECTING THEM, and just be careful in general, cause this one is one of the nastiest viruses around.

I wouldn’t reblog a virus alert unless I was dead serious about how bad it is.

Be aware this is totally a real thing. I work in IT at my university, and this basically completely trashed one of our file servers (it WILL encrypt any shared network resources you have access to). Just, don’t download attachments if you’re not expecting them. Don’t do it.

Since 2009 my boyfriend and I have been working on-off on an idea for a web-comic. Finally we are getting closer to be able to announce a launch date, which, if all goes well, should be somewhere around early 2014.  Besides working on pages to get a large buffer ready for the launch (we want to be able to have downtime/vacation/sickdays, yet still have the page upload), we're fleshing out the world with creature/race creations, and finally slamming down some much needed character sheets. First up is one of our two main characters, Thyrian.
