Hiya. You can call me Redmond. I’m over 20yo.

This blog while overall is to show appreciation for the bands & music I listen to, has slowly over time become a 5sos centric blog. I started listening around Jet Black Heart but only really joined the fandom a little after Youngblood. Main lane is Mikey & cheat lane is Ash.

basically I perused the 5sos Friends to Lovers Fest 2024 collection cause I was thinking of potentially using one of the fics from the collection for fanart frenzy but didn't get around to it. so instead, found most of the song references w/in the collection & wrote them like someone was making their friends a mixtape at a sleepover. say most cause Ik I missed at least one or two.

Pretty Hate Machine

Had heard the one Miley Cyrus Black Mirror episode; the Ashley O song on repeat was a NIN's song. Makes sense for the episode why they chose it. With Miley’s character seemingly wanting to go in that direction music wise. Even outside of that context, still a pretty good song imo. But they did lowkey disney-ify it tho

The instrumental of Something I Can Never Have reminds me of Linkin's Park's What I've Done. But it's a lot more eerie

Also I'm rather bad at picking up on innuendos in songs. But there's certain lines in NIN songs where I'm just like "is this what I think is being said here?" but having seen some clips of them on stage, it's like "yeah, probably is"

The copy of this that the public library had was missing the lyric booklet that usually comes with CDs. so far has been the only one. which sucks cause the booklets for the NIN CDs so far have had a lot of info as to who helped produce the songs. Or extra folks playing some of the instruments.

And it's been interesting. Like how on Hesitation Marks, some of the songs had Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac on 'em

So many of the songs on this album—it sounds like they’re singing through a megaphone, especially Shit Mirror

Idk if it's a voice modulator or what but Ahead of Ourselves, the mix of vocals and instrumentals going on sounds akin to how the Daleks talk in Doctor Who. ngl, think some aspects of their stuff could definitely end up as like Foley work

Play the Goddamned Part reminds me of how it's feels to be in New York when you've never navigated or been on the subway system before. And when the trains that aren't your's pass by, big oof sensation

Hell, there was this YA dystopia book I read; the 2 main characters are running from someone and the mmc chucks a guy out of the train b/c he thought they were suspicious for wearing both Yankees & Mets merch on a game day

This + God Break Down the Door is reminding me of Jazzpunk's existence (video game, not music genre; idk if that is a music genre. should be. I'd listen to it)
