It was still interesting to Juliette that not only were Jordan and Lorena were neighbors and that’s how they met, but also that they were dating. She couldn’t think of two people that were more opposite than them but it seemed to work. Being close together and having their own space also seemed like a good win. Juliette had never been a fan of Lorena’s and never saw what other people saw. She had always been cruel and unreasonably hard to work with over the last couple of years. Over fashion week though, Juliette had seen Lorena in a different light. Whether it was because she was giving the other a chance because of Jordan’s sake or because Lorena was giving her a chance because of the Reign dilemma. It didn’t seem to matter as the two were slowly becoming close. She wouldn’t say they were friends, but Juliette was optimistic. After their situation in California last time Juliette had been here, she hadn’t seen much of Lorena other than being invited to a party later that week.

With the two living close by each other, Juliette had popped into Lorena’s apartment before Jordan as she waited for him to come home. Juliette appreciated the open space of Lorena’s apartment, not knowing what to imagine Lorena’s place would look like until now. She had met Prada before but bent down to say hello again. “I think your place is very nice. And it must not be too bad of real estate that Jordan lives close.”

Juliette had spent the week in Paris, taking a break from work and spending it with Milo who seemed to need her more. Ever since the last society meeting, everyone had been put on edge. Juliette’s own trust issues surfaced when someone she had worked with had been the culprit and all but lied to her face. She didn’t expect that and seeing her friends nervous and Archie separated from her when she needed him had left an uncomfortable night to remember. Knowing that Milo had been stirred by the events, she thought she would go see Reign as well who had also been effected. Juliette had seen Reign and how sure she had been that she was dead. The process had been a lot and couldn’t imagine how Reign must feel. She knew that the other woman was alone in LA mostly and she was still at odds with Lorena.

They had spent the day together starting with brunch in the afternoon and then shopped and had just got their nails done. Juliette had promised Reign a fun few days together while she was in the area. When they were alone at Reign’s place, Juliette smiled from where she was pouring the wine. “So, how are you feeling? Today has been fun hasn’t it?” she offered Reign one of the glasses. “I think the shade on your nails is a very good Autumn color. I shouldn’t have gone with the French tip.”

Today was the day they were doing the photoshoot for the cover of her upcoming album. She had half of the songs done and they didn’t have a title yet, not even a rough idea of what it would be. She hoped that once she had managed to write more songs one of them would stick out to her and that way she could have that be the title of the album alongside the first single of it. When it came to her music it was important to Isabel to listen to her gut. Her gut instinct would tell her when it sounded and felt right. She just hoped her team would agree and see the same thing she would. Photoshoots weren’t her area of expertise, but due to the fact that she was currently in New York where Juliette, one of her best friends and a successful model on top of that resided, she knew she could ask her to join her on set. “Thank you for coming Jules. I appreciate it.”

When Isabel had invited her to a photoshoot, Juliette saw it as a distraction to get out of her apartment. She had spent the last week holed up in there watching reruns of Love Island. This seemed to at least get her out of her apartment and see her friends. It was a week before fashion week started so she had a few fittings but even then it felt like she couldn’t concentrate on the daily tasks. She arrived at the location with two steaming chai lattes in her hand. “Of course! And here is your iced chai!” Juliette beamed as she saw her friend and the photoshoot setup. “What can I do? How can I help?”

Jordan was excited for Juliette to be auditioning, he knew it was still going to be a long process, she might not even get the role, but it was still exciting and he was happy for her. Of course he had agreed to helping her out with her lines, the girl was like a little sister to him and he’d always set things aside to help her out. It just so happened that he was between projects with free time, so he had more than enough to run lines with her and give her pointers.

“Alright, ready to be judged?” he asked teasingly with a smile as he lead Juliette into the living room. “I’ll try my best not to be too harsh,” Jordan continued to joke, motioning for her to sit with him and holding an expectant hand out for a script. “When’s the audition, again?”

Doing any acting work had always been something she wanted to dip her toes in but had always been felt weighed down by her parents expectations as well as everyone else who would watch. She felt confident in the role she was going to try out for because it was enough lines to meet her goal and not enough to be a lasting role on a show or movie. She didn’t want too much pressure out of him but see it as a fun experience. The show wasn’t one she watched because of the many episodes and seasons but everyone knew what Grey’s Anatomy was. After reading the script she hoped she did get it. The only other person she knew trying out were other models but she had been told the role was made for a cameo appearance from a well known person and she felt she was more well known than the others.

“Don’t start it off like that,” she sighed in defeat, crossing her arms over her chest. “Can your pride take a stage left or something?” she teased in return. “I want this to be perfect...I want it and I don’t think Kendall Jenner can act. Did you see that one commercial she did?” Juliette glanced down at the script while nursing a glass of wine in her hand. “Tomorrow afternoon. I’ve been studying the script they gave me since last weekend though.”

Lorena didn’t know what went through her mind when she invited Juliette for a drink in her room, but after she sent it it was too late to take it back. She was lonely and needed to talk to someone that knew the people involved in the situation, even if not as well as she did. Texting Mavi or facetiming Jordan wasn’t the same as having an actual drinking companion. And she had done enough drinking alone after she found out about what Reign had done. Besides, how bad could tonight really be? Juliette seemed nice enough by text and did offer to send her alcohol so she was trying. Lorena could do the same. She did tell Jordan she would try and be nicer. So this was her trying. Hearing a knock on the door she went over to the door, Prada standing up on her bed and barking. “Come in, don’t worry, he’s harmless. I’ve only trained him to dislike Royce.”

It was nearly surreal to be invited by Lorena to her room, but Juliette knew walking in it was only because she was invited by process of elimination. It was far from feeling honored and more feeling curious as she found the room and tapped lightly on the door. She never knew how to feel about Lorena. For many years, she was a thorn in her side and recently with Jordan, she was being asked to make nice with her. It was a tight corner to be pushed into but hopefully this evening accessed all of the confusion. “Oh my, he’s so cute!” she beamed, ignoring the comment about Royce but feeling slight discomfort over the choice of words. “Who do you have as roommates? I’ve had two of the same ones every single time from New York.”

“If I drink water then I’ll have to use the bathroom and the boys are really dumb about keeping their place in line so I might have to go all the way to the back of the line before I get my pictures taken,” He frowned at the thought, “And I don’t think I can handle another hour of not having something in my mouth for nourishment. I might start eating one of the weaker looking models; Cynthia’s asleep, she’d be an easy target.”

He offered her a stupid smile to soften the joke and wrapped an arm around her waist, drawing her closer so he can rest his cheek against her shoulder. “How are your roommates? Are they nice? Mine are sort of loud and one of them HAS to have ‘thunderstorm in a rainforest’ white noise on loop at night or else he says he’ll get night terrors. Plus, they wake up so early and take so long in the bathroom..”

“Don’t you dare go near, Cynthia. I envy her ability to sleep through this madness. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been touched and ushered into other places. Some of the ways the personal assistants treat us are like dimwitted animals.” Juliette knew it was all part of the organization and trying to make sure everyone was where they needed to be. “If some rude assistant tells me to smile one more time, I’ll join you in biting people’s heads off.”

Juliette loathed being so close to home but having to room with two other models due to needing to be in proximity to the venues. She threw her arms around Milo, making sure to be careful to not ruin the clothes. “Tell me about it. I have Elsa and another model. I think new. I don’t recognize her and she looks so overwhelmed.”

a last minute text from the happily hearst production team just as archie was heading back to his airbnb after lunch with some of his old harvard friends meant that he’d been rerouted. they said they needed more footage, and archie was contractually obliged to help them out with that, and so there he was, sitting in the crowd of womenswear show that he didn’t have any particular interest in. at least the models would be pretty - small mercies.

he’d gotten used to the affected way these fashion people engaged with these shows. archie was sat in the front row, next to some hollywood actor he’d forgotten the name of and fashion critic who was busy tapping away on her phone. he took solace in the fact he was twice as famous as either of them, and waited for the show to start. he’d been so good, so careful not to cross paths with his ex after he’d disgraced himself. and yet there she was, looking like a dream, walking down the runway in a dress with a slit that went sinfully high up her leg. it was about now that he wished the earth would swallow him up whole, but in his periphery he saw his producer signal a zoom from the cameraman tucked at the end of the runway with all the press camera’s, and realised this hadn’t been chance. his stomach twisted when she smiled at him, after months of nothing, it was like rain in the desert. archie found himself leaning forward slightly, and a smile emerging on his face without him really realising. he knew better than to wink at her as she walked back down the runway with her perfectly even stride, he really did, but that didn’t stop him.

It had only been two days of New York Fashion Week but already she felt spread thin from the stress and the preparation that went into it. The past few weeks before she had been in meetings and fitting for international designers. She was familiar with the process from the year before and having two or three shows a day was enough to keep her busy. This was the last show of the day and she had been told about a few after parties that she never busied herself with.

What she hadn’t been told was that Archer Hearst would be in the front row near the runway and the camera crew would be mixed in with the other ones. It took a moment for her to collect her composure, hoping that no one saw the change and especially Archer. This was her job and she wasn’t going to screw it up because of a guy. The guy she thought about a lot even when her heart had been smashed into thin enough pieces that she was still picking herself up. It was her last dress to walk down the runway in so once she was in the back, she began to breathe again without realizing she had stopped. She felt some assistant on her back, already getting her out of it. It was a blur of getting out of the dress and going to the back to find her clothes she had squirreled away. She tried not to think about what was plaguing her mind or how Archie looked at her show. When she made her way out, she talked to a few people but stopped when she saw Archie and his crew again. Her face was as stone like as it had been on the runway, but she smiled slowly as she approached them. “Archie,” she greeted, finding her words that felt numb in her mouth. “I wasn’t aware you and your company of friends would be here.”

Fashion month was always the most stressful time of the year, but she enjoyed the adrenaline rush being so busy gave her. New York was first and she had just been there a couple of days prior for a lingerie shoot for Savage x Fenty. The pictures wouldn’t come out for a couple more weeks but she had seen a few of them and they turned out great. This morning she had two fittings scheduled, the first being for the upcoming Tommy Hilfiger show that she sadly had to share with Juliette. It wasn’t that common for them both to be booked for the same things, thank god, she wouldn’t know what to do if she had to put up with the other more frequently. Seeing her Lorena faked a smile. “Juliette! It’s so nice to see you.”

This was always the time of the year that every model and designer, anyone involved in the scope of the fashion industry looked forward to. It was a good thing to throw herself into as a distraction from her breakup with Lachlan, to hold her head a bit higher and walk as if she was unbothered. The first show she had was the Tommy Hillfiger one and backstage was chaotic enough without adding Lorena to the mix. “Oh, Lorena! Hello!” she beamed, giving an exciting wave and a wide enough smile that could either look genuine or feign. “I wonder what other shows we will be sharing the runway with!”

It was the last show of the day and Juliette could feel the pressure of the day. It had been a lot in one day but nothing she wasn’t used to. For the last hour she had been pushed around to hair and makeup for this show. The dress she was fitted in was perfect and she was honored to be given the beautiful gown like dress. She was told her cue and her place, feeling a slight push when someone said her name. The runway wasn’t abstract and knew her place, her eyes adjusting to the light. She wasn’t expecting to see Archer in the front row on her left, her face shifting candidly for a moment before catching herself. She hadn’t been told about him attending a show and he certainly hadn’t mentioned it. Trying to ignore him, she posed at the end for the cameras, her chin lowering and eyes gazing softly before turning. On her way back, she had a better look at Archer from the corner of her eye, giving a slight smile in his direction that was quick enough to be missed by others.

They’ve been waiting around for 45 minutes now with no end in sight. Prada seemed to have hit a few snags in their usually flawless appearance; from what he overheard, the assistants blamed shipping and shipping blamed production and everybody blamed management and Milo blamed his stupidity of not stopping to grab a sandwich between sprinting between shows for his hunger that night. He popped another goldfish cracker into his mouth and offered one to Juliette, swimming it up to her with a series of little bubble sounds and waiting for her to open her mouth.

“I think they just got the pieces in,” he whispered, his eyes following a parade of suitcases that were being rolled in by a few tearful assistants, “And there’s about 35 models here.. I feel sort of bad for everyone who has to stress out and everything but I’m really hungry… Do you think I can get another snack or is it just one per person?”

With a soft whine heard only by his very best friend, he stretched his long limbs and collapsed against the chair again. “I need two face masks tonight,” Milo mumbled childishly, stomping his foot.

She was used to the chaos of fashion shows, but fashion week was always intense. There were people behind the scenes making sure things were in place. There was also the placement of many media groups who wanted to get exclusive access footage for their websites. Juliette had to remind herself to breathe every once in a while, knowing it wasn’t healthy to just let the stress eat at her. But she allowed it to gnaw excessively at her mind as everything passed by her in a blur.

It was only a relief that Milo was there with her, knowing there was someone she could go to and would know exactly how she’s feeling. She took the goldfish happily, beaming at Milo. “I do not know, but I have been drinking water to ignore the temptation. It isn’t too much longer right?”

Juliette knew the trouble and miscommunication would be solved soon, but Prada usually wasn’t like this. “Of course. We will do as many as it takes and maybe a bath or two.”

The fact that they were both walking for Tommy Hilfiger annoyed Lorena, but she believed in her ability to outshine Juliette. It was one of her favorite past times. They had this rivalry ever since their agency kept sending the both of them out for the same jobs due to them being the same type appearance wise. Of course she thought of herself as more proportionate than Juliette and she was sure the other woman’s thoughts mirrored her own. Neither of them was going to admit to falling short in front of the other. “Oh, how I missed our little talks.” She faked a smile, ranting at Juliette in her head. Now she was going to have to spend the next half an hour, if things went fast, with someone this infuriating. “I wasn’t going to say anything, but your ankles do look more swollen than usual. I get it of course, they wanted someone more muscular for a job like this. Just don’t overdo it with the weight training. You’ll have thighs the size of a bodybuilders…”

There were plenty of other models that got under her skin, but tough skin wasn’t as easy to wear as louboutins. She couldn’t stand many of them because they didn’t seem genuine and most of the friendship was staged for photos and media. The one she personally seemed to have a vendetta against was Lorena who, for as long as Juliette had known her, had always been at her neck. Juliette shrugged it off as jealousy or perhaps an judgement oversight. Whatever it was, Juliette wasn’t blind to it and wasn’t staying silent if something was said. “Thank you for the workout tip but I only do weights in the winter,” Juliette commented, placing her purse and phone down in a nearby chair. She hated being in the same room and she browsed the clothes that were on display. “Have you done the run through with Tommy yet?”

Knowing how hectic fashion week could get her agency had asked the models to get their measurements done before it started to save valuable time when it came to the final fittings of the designers they worked with. Perhaps they could have time to fit another job in if all went well. Lorena was already spread thin but she revelled in the excitement and being busy. It was once a year after all, she could take things easy later on.

There had been another model in when Lorena entered but she was done by now, so she wasn’t surprised when someone new came in. She just wished it would’ve been someone else. “Those are the shoes the people from Tommy Hilfiger want me to walk in for the show. Shouldn’t you know better than to argue with a designer’s vision?” Even if something wasn’t to your taste, you had to present it like it was the most valuable thing in the world. That’s why she was so good at commercials. “She’s in the back, I’m sure she’ll be out soon.”

If there was anything she knew, it was that fashion week in each city was completely busy and scheduled to the last second. She was familiar with the chaos but also thrived on it. Juliette was booked for a couple of big names and knew that fashion week was going to be more hectic and it got more hectic each year with new designers every year. Being able to have any shortcut advantages like going in for measurements or collaborate with makeup artists and stylists was always necessary.

Juliette’s lips twisted in annoyance, her nose wrinkling in distress at seeing Lorena. It was an innate feeling anytime she saw the other woman. After being one of the front woman for Tommy Hilfiger’s collection, Juliette thought it was bold of Lorena to take on the same designer. “It’s almost like you’ve grown another head.” Juliette wanted to make this quick as she knew Lachlan was back at her apartment and didn’t want to leave him alone for too long. “Good. I think the Nike campaign a few weeks ago changed my measurements.”

Having Lachlan in town had been so nice. London and Paris had been nice as well but it felt nice to finally be back home. It had been almost weeks since she had been at her apartment alone and didn’t want to be alone. Her connection with Lachlan had been almost surreal, thinking that it had been a while since she had connected to anyone like that. After doing some tourist things, they had mostly been hanging out at her apartment with Ernie. She stepped out to go to a fitting. There was a French designer in town and knew that having her measurements done before the chaos of fashion week would be better.

She took of her sunglasses and stepped into the shop, glancing around before noticing Lorena. It wasn’t too much of a surprise, but Juliette stood there with arms folded. She wondered if the dress Lorena was in was the one she was meant to be trying on. “I don’t think it goes with those shoes,” Juliette commented impassively. “I got a call from Rebecca. Is she in?”
