so raine tries to find ways to help him that might be a liiiiiittle less helping a teen, and more helping...a little kid. because he's certainly acting like one, and throwing fits like one, and it works way better than thought
and now hunter runs to raine every time he's in a mood, and cuddles with them and gets snacks from them

hunter ends up moving into the owl house after everything because, no matter what eda says, she likes having a full house
the first few weeks, he mostly just quarrels with luz and king, and acts like a broody teenager that he never really got to be at the castle
hunter also finds great joy in getting under eda's skin whenever possible. he jokingly calls her mom whenever possible, leaves his clothes everywhere, tattles on luz over every little possible thing, and he has a habit of leaving sigils under her seat to prank her
eda doesn't know whether to be proud or annoyed, so she chooses both. she tells darius about the kid's behavior, and he just laughs because he's glad it's not him, but one thing darius does mention is that when hunter starts getting comfortable with someone...he starts acting different
eda just assumes darius is fibbing and trying to make her worry about whether she can handle hunter or not so he can get custody
that is, she assumes that until one evening, she catches hunter in his room crying and babbling to his palisman. and she tries to get his attention, tries to see if he's having another panic attack, and then he turns around and cries out "mama!" and makes grabs at the air toward her
and eda's not strong-willed when it comes to resisting kids
so, she ends up holding hunter in bed all night, rocking him gently and rubbing his back and shushing his cries
needless to say, hunter avoids her the next day. he's not going to talk about it until he's made to, and he even considers going to gus's for a sleepover just so he can avoid eda
but eda is very...persistent. and she corners and gets him to confess what's going on, and he explains how sometimes he feels really small and scared when he gets anxious, and he just kinda needed someone right then
when eda finds out how much he happens to feel this way (and she hates to admit that the goopy man was right), she does whatever she can to help. she gets him bottles, pacifiers, teethers, stuffed animals, and sensory toys. hunter is embarrassed at first, but he really loves that she's so invested and doesn't just think he's weird
it's very funny to eda how they can go from arguing about him leaving socks on the couch to 20 minutes later be snuggling while she gives him a bottle. it's a different dynamic that neither of them are used to, but they wouldn't trade it for anything
eda carries him around, plays peak-a-boo, and her baby voice is stronger than it is with king
hunter simultaneously loves it and hates it. he loves this treatment when he regresses, obviously, but as soon as he gets out of the headspace, he just wishes for a hole to open up in the floor and suck him in
even worse when luz finds out about them, which was inevitable and hunter knew it, but he just hoped that she wouldn't. but no, she finds out while eda's giving him a bottle and it's the fastest hunter's ever gotten out of his headspace.
after a gentle explanation, eda's able to get him to calm down enough to let his "little big sister" into his regression. and soon she's defusing those fights, too, and yeah eda doesn't regret anything

so the first time hunter regresses around his friends, its because they're having a sleepover, he snuck out, hes getting overwhelmed, and then darius calls him to tell him goodnight. just hearing darius's voice is enough to accidentally send an already stressed hunter regressing
of course, none of the entrails (except willow) are prepared for him to just. start crying.
but he does, and its so embarrassing, but at least willow knows about his regression and is able to calm him down and get him to relax. but that does mean she has an anxious lil boy sitting on her lap and six eyes looking at her wondering what just happened
and with hunter's permission, willow explains. viney and skara are cooing and fussing over him immediately, and gus wants to play with him
its still a little overwhelming, and hunter feels bad for crying again, but he doesnt know how else to express that he's upset
after that, they try to take things slower
viney is Upies Master, and she comes up with wild nicknames for him (his favorite is guppy-wuppy)
skara plays him lullabies and even plays songs that make his toys dance, which amazes hunter to no end

since they already have face pain laying around, hunter thinks its fun to let them take turns painting his face like they're at a carnival. it tickles, and he smiles way too big so the paint always cracks, but its just so wholesome that they all love it
when hunter comes to practice and he feels little, he'll bring a stuffie with him. he tries to bring a different one every time so that all his stuffies get the chance to meet his friends
and, since they all have a group chat and you can't convince me otherwise, there's one single emoji that they teach hunter: 🍼
if hunter texts them the bottle emoji, all cussing, mentions of belos, and mentions of him as the golden guard (even the nickname "goldie") stop immediately

A knock at Darius’s door was unusual. A knock at this hour was even more so. The coven head groaned as he got to his feet and shuffled across the room to open the door. “Yes…?” he groaned, pulling his hand down his face with his annoyance.
And then he heard that distinct sniffle.
He snapped out of his irritation immediately. “Hunter? What’s wrong, little prince?” Darius stooped down to see the boy’s face, heart breaking as tears spilled down his cheeks.
“B-blankie’s tore…” Hunter managed out. He wiped his eyes and hiccupped. He stood there with a red blanket balled up in his arms, the tear facing the sky for Darius to see.
“May I?” Darius asked, and Hunter held the blanket up for him. “Oh, dear, it’s just a little tear, Hunter. I can fix this, no problem.”
Hunter sniffled and finally looked up at Darius with hopeful eyes. “Really…?”
“Of course.” Darius gave him a gentle smile. “Come take a seat, this’ll just take a minute.”
Hunter darted into the room and dove onto the bed, pulling the covers over his head. Darius had to laugh at his actions. He made quick work of sewing up the tear, abomination magic coating the stitches and leaving them nearly invisible on the fabric. “There we are, all better,” Darius said, presenting the blanket to the boy.
“Wow…” Hunter whispered. He ran his hand over the fabric, a wide smile taking over his face. “Thank you, Dada!” He hugged Darius close, giggles spilling out of his mouth. Darius chuckled and hugged him tight, rubbing Hunter’s shoulder. He dropped a kiss into his hair before telling the boy to scoot over in the bed.
Hunter wrapped his blankie around his shoulders and snuggled up against his caregiver. It didn’t take long for Hunter to fall asleep. It never did, really, as soon as he got comfortable he just fell right asleep. Darius was sure one day this wouldn’t be as cute as it was.

eda's known that luz regresses for a while, and she does what she can to help (and it's easier now that they have access to the human realm, so they have access to things that help luz feel like a kid again)
hunter's regression is fairly new, and it's the direct response to all of his years of trauma crashing down on his shoulders. on a good day, he might regress to 3, maybe 4, but it is much more common for him to regress to infancy
luz is a bit older. she regresses around 6-9, so she gets to be the big sister and she adores it
when they're both close to the same age, they are a force to be reckoned with. luz just feeds hunter ideas for mischief, and he toddles off happily to create chaos. more than once, eda has caught them in the kitchen with hunter on luz's shoulders while they try to get to the sweets in the top cabinet
they've also been banned from using chalk. hunter will eat it, and luz draws on the front door to give hooty random bodies. sometimes they make him super happy, most of the time hooty get upset
eda does her best to make them happy, and she comforts them whenever they get upset. she will hold them and read them books, she has snacks all around for them, and she gets them toys when she goes to the market
luz dubs herself the hunter translator when he's too young to speak well, and she has about an 80% accuracy rate. hunter thinks it's funny. he'll say something about wanting his froggy toy, and luz will say he wants a fog machine
eda understands him a little bit more, luckily, so his needs still get met
