I think another thing to point out about Yandere simulator is how flat¹ and repetitive² the characters are.

1—As in, their ENTIRE personality revolves around ONE [if you're lucky TWO] character traits. Like Kaguya, her hair is pink, her socks are white and then pink, she's an angel, she's cute and stuff and she likes strawberry milk and axolotls, her nickname is "cutesy", like they're straight up pushing it into your face "yeah look she's super cute adorable uwu girl can't you see???". Or Ritsuko with her "she's a spoiled rich girl who likes riching around and doing rich things and oh also she likes rich people". Or the most obvious—Moeko, her name means "flame", her elimination method is burning her alive, she has a fiery personality and she likes burning things and WE GET IT. It's like they're not allowed to have any depth or more than one redeemable quality.

2—This issue is seen in the clubs. EVERYONE IN THE CLUBS LOOK THE SAME. I appreciated the 1980s mod for giving characters a bit more diverse and down-to-earth/realistic designs before then they got nuked with the 202x designs curse. For example everyone in 1980s music club looks like Hatsune Miku, everyone in 1980s sports club has blonde hair and everyone in science club has silver/light hair [both modes], everyone in drama club are purple [both modes too]. They're indistinguishable at this point, they're more like a beehive instead of each separate person being.

Yandere dev CANNOT write characters and it's not because of designs or some overused tropes, it's because MOST of his characters are ONE-DIMENSIONAL and DON'T STAND OUT.

so like yk how I talked about the whole flame demon/pain demon thing by violetsuger about the flame demon being too late to save the pain demon. yeah I was thinking what if that really fucked him up. he was too late. the sacrifice. the power. the vengeance. he was too busy doing all of that to save the pain demon while the dude in question was already getting a public execution

so now the flame demon can't bring himself to heal from that. he still has unresolved tension with the pain demon. he doesn't want to talk to him because he fears it'll get messy. that he'll break the illusion of not having a heart to love. that he'll remember how he let him down. or something.

cue the events of burning love with midori.

he falls in love again. and this time, she's mortal, and he's not. so he swears to himself that he'll keep her safe no matter what.

he stopped observing for one moment.

ayano already made her move.

now, as the life drains from midori's eyes, the flame demon is doing the best he can to salvage this. to keep her soul or like. turn her into a demon.

he can't let his lover down.

not again.
