I imagine after Gi-hun stops the games, defeats the dark magic, whatever it was, everyone is freed from their cursed "dead" states and mostly okay (if we don't count the obvious magical scars and trauma. whoops). Jun-ho arrives on the island and everything seems fine, but one thing is wrong. Jun-ho hopes to reunite with his brother, but he's nowhere to be found.
Desperate, he tells Gi-hun the truth about his brother, but Gi-hun tells him he has no idea where the Frontman disappeared. He wasn't even in the control room during the rebellion. Maybe he escaped? But the magic was destroyed, so he should be himself again, right? Unless he wasn't controlled...?
Then the realization comes, after Gi-hun puts two and two together - player 001, Young-il, is missing too (he realizes it either by himself or someone tells him in the chaos of the victory) and he fits oddly perfectly with Jun-ho's description of In-ho.
But where is he?
I think they search for a while, but after a few hours of nothing, they decide to leave, as exhaustion takes hold. They go back home with the belief that In-ho is dead or for some reason escaped. What they don't notice is the faint magical aura, almost like a ghostly presence, that left with them...
------
That's all I have for now.
I'm not gonna drop all ideas and lore I have for this au, because I wanna leave something for later and also because I don't have everything thought out... XD
Okay, so another thing for my Squid Game AU is - I have a playlist!
It was originally supposed to be for the AU as a whole, but I think it fits mainly In-ho and his whole story.
If you're interested about the reason for some of these songs, you can ask, I'll be happy to answer! I may also make a few separate posts about the songs, but we'll see.
You can give it a listen here if you're interested:
It's a WIP, so I'll be slowly adding more songs, rearranging the order, etc.
So, the last season of Squid game dropped and I'm absolutely devastated. But I'm not here to talk about my feelings or the ending (at least not the canon one ;)) itself.
I didn't think my several month DSMP hyperfixation could be beaten, but here we are. Now I'm completely obsessed with our favourite death games and, of course, with it comes au creation!
(although I had problems with coming up with something, as my favourite tropes and media don't really mesh well together with Squid game)
Also a side note, my favorite characters are Gi-hun, Jun-ho and I think I like In-ho the most (his story is too interesting to ignore) - the way he pretended to be a player in the second season made me want more of that, also more of the dynamic between him and Gi-hun and made me interested in the thought of "What if he wasn't 'evil' and him and Gi-hun were friends (or something more)"
Also I like trios and I think the trio of Gi-hun, Jun-ho and In-ho could work in a way and have a fun dynamic.
So, I present to you
Cursed games AU
(the name is a WIP, so don't take it that too seriously)
More under the cut:
So, the basic premise is that everything's the same as in the show with the difference that magic exists and it's heavily involved in the games - the games themselves are powered by some strong dark magic. They were created by some people with powerful magic or maybe gods (this is a part I haven't thought about that much, but Oh Il-nam and the VIPs are definitely somehow part of it)
Gi-hun probably somehow figured out the whole deal of the games after the first season, came back the second time, and somehow managed to stop everything during the whole rebellion at the end of season 2.
The people that "died" came back (in this au they didn't really die, they were rather cursed, or something, in various ways and then freed after Gi-hun broke the magic).
A big thing that also happened is that In-ho was freed too - he didn't run the games of his own free will, he was controlled by the dark magic. So whatever Gi-hun did, it broke the control over In-ho. However he wasn't saved immediately like the others.
(I don't have this part that thought out)
The dark magic, or whoever controlled it, took him and trapped him somehow with the magic. So Gi-hun (definitely with Jun-ho) had to save him.
The rest of the au takes place after it's over and everyone is freed. Everyone has trauma and is slowly healing (I'm sorry, I'm a sucker for healing arcs). In-ho has a hard time, since everyone sees him as the villain even if they know it wasn't really him. Luckily he has his brother Jun-ho, who, although also careful with his own bad memories with him, is reconnecting with him and helping him. There's also Gi-hun, who is also helping and In-ho might be catching feelings for him⦠(Gi-hun also might have hidden feelingsā¦)
I know the au is random and completely different from the whole deal of the show and other au's, but I desperately need to heal my broken heart. I'm sorry.
I have more ideas and I think they're gonna keep coming, so get ready for a Squid game arc from me.
