Introductions.

Good afternoon, everyone. The Ministry insisted I share about myself here since just about everyone else is doing it too. I’m much too busy for trivial things but orders are orders, are they not? As requested, here is a little about me.

I am Dart but you may call me whatever you would like. My birth date is August 9th and currently I am 29 years old. I hold many important roles in the Ministry including but not limited to: Event planning and organization, safety and security within the abbey, general resources, and quality management. This account will not keep me from these duties so don’t expect much of my attention to be here.

If you are to come to my office at least bring some peppermint or hibiscus tea with you.

A couple weeks since the whole… laundry incident… Raven still had “not” Dart’s socks. Well, the pair she’d stolen. As far as she could tell he had returned all of her guitar pics. The little baggy still sat on her shelf, pristinely kept closed since the encounter.

Of course, Dart couldn’t have that. Couldn’t have been keeping his socks. So, he came knocking. Knocking at her door. This time not covered in blood. In fact, he’d gotten the urge before he left his room for her to spritz a fresh bit of his cologne on himself. The ghoul gently rapped on Raven’s door.

She could recognize the scent from the few weeks before, now not overpowered by the smell of blood. She put her book down on her desk and pushed her swivel chair over to the door, opening it wide with a soft smile. "Hey Dart! Come in!"

She spun her chair back into place, grabbing her book before the chair slowed to a stop to face Dart. She kept the book in her lap, maintaining her gaze on Dart. "What brings you back here?"

Dart awkwardly stepped inside. This time he didn’t bother glancing around, knowing the organized chaos would probably distract him into a flurry of organizing. That was most definitely not what he came for.

“I noticed,” he explained simply. A little too simply. They shook their head and cleared their throat. “I noticed you withheld a pair of my socks.” Now, he didn’t mean to say my right there. He meant to say the. You know, to keep the suspicion off of himself. Dart’s face went blue knowing that the mistake was completely detrimental to his secrecy.

Raven sees the embarrassment spread on his face and smirks before letting out a small chuckle. She tried not to laugh hard because she didn't want to make him feel bad. She got up from her chair and took his hand, smiling warmly and tilting her her.

"You don't need to be embarrassed. I mean, just look around! I collect so many things, I'd never judge anyone for it. It's no fun to not have interests, you deserve to have a bit of colorful freedom, especially with everything you do around the Ministry."

Raven lets go of his hand and walks over to her shelf, where she had the pair of purple lightning socks tucked away. She was a tad bit embarrassed, maybe even ashamed for having knowingly taken something that wasn't hers. She took them and held them out to him, not making eye contact. It was rare to see her even slightly upset.

"I did take these.. I was hoping you wouldn't mind but you can definitely take them back. It.. was wrong of me to take them."

Dart, still blue in the face, took the socks gently. He could feel the heat rising in his ears as he in turn held out a plastic bag. “I eh… Was going to trade these for my pair.” He tried to remain stoic but the best he could do was stare off to the side as he internally battled the odd feeling in his body. They felt like trembling as if scared but they knew they weren’t scared. Finally Dart realized it was adrenaline.

Why am I feeling like this? This is all too simple. A simple exchange of goods. He thought. Finally dart snapped from his head, clearing his throat. “I thought since you seemed er… interested in the socks perhaps you’d… want… you own.”

Inside the bag were about five pairs of socks much like his. Of course they were brand new, still in their packaging.

She immediately perks up, eyes and attitude brightening, the shame washing away. She takes the bag and smiles brightly. She took Dart's hand in both of hers and hopped up and down, trying to suppress a squeal.

"These are so pretty! I can't thank you enough!!"

She let go of his hand and used her claw to rip the bag open, careful not to graze the colorful fabric. She looked at each pair and quickly ran to her shelf, placing them softly in a row that was clearly displayed. She had only just received them, but they already belonged on her shelf of favorites. She stood back and brushed a bit of bright purple hair from her face to examine the shelf.

"I love them so much! Thank you, really."

Something in the way Raven got so excited about the socks sent a strange warm flutter through his chest. Dart stood frozen, simply watching her excitedly put them on her shelf, as he processed the feeling. Their hand went up to clench over their heart as if maybe the feeling would go away if they applied enough pressure. When nothing changed Dart simply pushed all the thoughts of the feeling away and cleared his throat.

“Right. Good to know I picked good ones.”

Raven's smile faded slightly as she saw the faint glow of pink around them, same as before. She blinked and the glow was gone, so she assumed it was nothing. Raven looked down, kicking a crumpled ball of paper that was near her foot. Her hands felt warm as she kept them behind her back. "Right.. right." She looked around her room, the trinkets scattered around the floor, the decorations on the wall. She looked back at her book that she left on her chair, then back to Dart with a soft smile. "Do you.. like poetry?"

They straightened up to return to their typical perfect posture. Dart tried playing it cool with a little shrug but it most definitely looked forced. “Poetry is not exactly my… forte.”

Then he remembered that people usually asked about subjects they liked and Raven was likely trying to “bond” with him.

“But it can be… compelling. I appreciate the arts.”

Raven's smile returned and she walked over to Dart, grabbing the book off her chair on the way. It was a small, thin book with a leather cover, printed in red was the silhouette of a raven, intricate patterns around the border, and the words "Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven and Other Poems" written in gold. The edges of the pages were coated in the same gold, giving the book a bit of a shine that she could stare at for hours. "These are some of my top poems. Of course, Poe has other works that are much larger in length. 'The Raven' is by far my favorite, which is kind of funny if you think about it! I could lend my book to you.. i-if you want to give it a try, that is." Raven held the book out to them. It had that distinct "old book" scent, mostly earthly and/or woody, leather from the cover, and a bit dusty from age, there was also a slight hint of lavender and citrus from being used so often by the purple-haired ghoulette.

Dart stared down at the book of poems, mind racing. Reading this would have to be fit into his schedule. Not to mention if he did read them he'd have to set aside time to dissect them. What's the point in reading poetry when you don't let the nuances and metaphors truly show through?

But accepting it would mean indulging in another's interests. Which then means bonding with them. Which then means possibly gaining a friend. Perhaps the time spent would be worth it.

"I'll fit it into my schedule," they shrugged as they took the book carefully from Raven's hands.

Raven smiled brightly as he accepted the book, she was excited to hopefully gain a new friend, although she already considered them one of hers. She felt a bit torn, parting with the book that she held so dearly. It would only be a few days at most, and she had no doubts in her mind that Dart would take good care of it, considering how neat he is.

She felt the leather escape her grasp, but she practically beamed at the sight of them holding the book.

"I can't wait to talk about it! I'm sure you'll love it!" She tried her best to stop herself from hopping again, which worked. Though, her tail wouldn't stop swinging behind her like a puppy.

Dart noted the tail movement and felt odd as the muscles of his face seemed to uncontrollably force upwards. Unfortunately only one side went to smile and he seemed more like he was devilishly smirking than anything. He bit the inside of his cheek in an attempt to force his face back to neutral but it failed, simply leaving a sting from his sharp teeth.

"I will have it back in mint condition, I assure."

"You don't need to be embarrassed. I mean, just look around! I collect so many things, I'd never judge anyone for it. It's no fun to not have interests, you deserve to have a bit of colorful freedom, especially with everything you do around the Ministry."

Raven lets go of his hand and walks over to her shelf, where she had the pair of purple lightning socks tucked away. She was a tad bit embarrassed, maybe even ashamed for having knowingly taken something that wasn't hers. She took them and held them out to him, not making eye contact. It was rare to see her even slightly upset.

"I did take these.. I was hoping you wouldn't mind but you can definitely take them back. It.. was wrong of me to take them."

He could feel the heat rising in his ears as he in turn held out a plastic bag. “I eh… Was going to trade these for my pair.” He tried to remain stoic but the best he could do was stare off to the side as he internally battled the odd feeling in his body. They felt like trembling as if scared but they knew they weren’t scared. Finally Dart realized it was adrenaline.

Why am I feeling like this? This is all too simple. A simple exchange of goods. He thought. Finally dart snapped from his head, clearing his throat. “I thought since you seemed er… interested in the socks perhaps you’d… want… you own.”

Inside the bag were about five pairs of socks much like his. Of course they were brand new, still in their packaging.

Of course, Dart couldn’t have that. Couldn’t have been keeping his socks. So, he came knocking. Knocking at her door. This time not covered in blood. In fact, he’d gotten the urge before he left his room for her to spritz a fresh bit of his cologne on himself. The ghoul gently rapped on Raven’s door.

He was very affectionate with someone he was familiar and comfortable with. He was still in the process of his skin scabbing so he got a lil blood on Dart.

Dart had predicted the blood this time and was smart enough to change into something he cared less about before visiting. Of course, he still needed to look somewhat dignified, so he chose a simply black fitted tee and some casual slacks. Though, his dress shoes remained. Dart moved his arm holding his violin out the way as Lavis came up and nuzzled him. "Eh... Hello. I didn't expect you to be so.. er.. excited."

They awkwardly patted Lavis's back, trying to be gentle as to not hurt Lavis's skin (or lack thereof). "It uh- It's nice to see you too."

"....you... Play... For me...?..." Lavis asked before getting off of him and sitting on the ground expectingly. His lil tiny nub of a tail was still wagging as he watched Dart.

Dart gently shut the door behind him but didn't bother to lock it. He glanced around before finding a spot on the floor that seemed relatively clean and went to stand there. As he passed Lavis he noticed the little nub tail and it reminded himself of his own nub tail. Dart could only imagine Lavis didn't choose to get rid of his tail like Dart did, though. Dart found the appendage to be a nuisance so he had it amputated. The scare was minimal and there's wasn't a nub but a slight bump near his tail bone.

"Did you... Did you used to have a preference in music? I know quite a few songs. I'm sure there would be something resembling that."

"Thank you. Thank you very much," they let themselves at least chuckle to show they were pleased. "I have many more I could play, if you would like." Dart held his violin and bow with one hand as he ran his fingers through his hair with the other.

"... Play.... More.... Later...." Lavis decided, nuzzling Dart's side. He was very much happy about Dart's performance just for him. He felt appreciated, in a way. And he wanted to return that.

Yes, the blood was a nuisance when it came to keeping their clothes clean but other than that the actual appearance of the other didn't affect them that much.

Dart barely noticed as he cracked the hint of a grin at the corner of his mouth and chuckled. "I'll be sure to come back."

They nodded, clutching their violin a little harder. "Just like I said I would."

Dart gently shut the door behind him but didn't bother to lock it. He glanced around before finding a spot on the floor that seemed relatively clean and went to stand there. As he passed Lavis he noticed the little nub tail and it reminded himself of his own nub tail. Dart could only imagine Lavis didn't choose to get rid of his tail like Dart did, though. Dart found the appendage to be a nuisance so he had it amputated. The scare was minimal and there's wasn't a nub but a slight bump near his tail bone.

"Did you... Did you used to have a preference in music? I know quite a few songs. I'm sure there would be something resembling that."

Lavis nodded as he was waiting for him to play.

"... Don't know.... You can... Play... Whats easiest....." Lavis shrugged, excited to hear music for the first time that'd actually be nice to hear.

Lavis held his legs and looked up at him, smiling.

Left with no basis of what Lavis preferred Dart setlted for his nightly routine. Of course the songs were usually different each night. They simply always played their heart out. Quite literally. Almost. It was mostly emotional but Dart always swore he could hear and feel his heart thumping just a bit harder and louder every time he played this way.

"Right then..." he muttered as he checked that his instrument was in tune before clearing his throat and beginning to play. Though at first his face remained neutral as ever, the seemingly tender music made his features soften and his typically furrowed brows instead loosened and hung low. Dart simply hoped in the back of his mind that Lavis couldn't somehow notice the feeling they got in their chest from playing. The song was one he'd learned recently and though he was confident on the quality of the music it was still difficult for him to hide the weight he felt in his chest when he played it.

It was this kind of weight not like the burden of sadness but like he had something pent up inside. Something running around the walls of its enclosure in need of an escape. Something he wasn't sure if he should let out or not.

Lavis smiled and watched him play, his eyes going from the violin to Dart. He's never heard music like this and he's usually never liked it. This, apparently, was different.

"....wo-.. Ah.... " Lavis said, tilting his head in awe at Dart. "..... So.... Amazing..!.." Lavis exclaimed as he was slowly clapping.

The music stopped and Dart took a deep breathe. As Lavis clapped he couldn't help but bow dramatically like he was a real player up on a stage. Though he felt the muscles in his face attempt to pull his lips up into a smile, he refused to let them. Vulnerability still had no place here.

"Thank you. Thank you very much," they let themselves at least chuckle to show they were pleased. "I have many more I could play, if you would like." Dart held his violin and bow with one hand as he ran his fingers through his hair with the other.

About a week or so after Dart had met Lavis, when he'd eaten the raw lamb with Lavis on the stone floor and had been outraged that someone ruined music for the other ghoul, there was a knock on Lavis's door. The same sound from the week before. The same muffled voice came from the other side of the wooden door as well, "Lavis? My schedule is clear. I assumed now may be a good time to keep my promise" He surely was one for consistency.

Dart had returned. He'd never actually "promised" to return. But he kept his word like every declaration was a promise. The ghoul didn't really expect Lavis to be awake at this time. It was late at night. Most ghouls were asleep. But that's what made Dart so comfortable playing. No one could hear him.

Lavis looked down when the door opened, he was once again on the ceiling. Once he saw it was dart he immediately felt better. He slowly crawled down the wall and sat on the floor, smiling and tilting his head.

".... Dart.!.. " Lavis exclaimed excited. His lil nub where his tail was amputated was wagging. "... Miss-.. Ed.... You..!!..." Lavis said, pouncing on the other(magically avoiding the violin) and nuzzling his cheek.

He was very affectionate with someone he was familiar and comfortable with. He was still in the process of his skin scabbing so he got a lil blood on Dart.

Dart had predicted the blood this time and was smart enough to change into something he cared less about before visiting. Of course, he still needed to look somewhat dignified, so he chose a simply black fitted tee and some casual slacks. Though, his dress shoes remained. Dart moved his arm holding his violin out the way as Lavis came up and nuzzled him. "Eh... Hello. I didn't expect you to be so.. er.. excited."

They awkwardly patted Lavis's back, trying to be gentle as to not hurt Lavis's skin (or lack thereof). "It uh- It's nice to see you too."
