Garp snorted as the woman attempted to barter with him. Yet despite the implied distaste, he shrugged. “That can be arranged. I’m sure HQ won’t mind losing a few berries for the sake of security.” Garp could tell from the woman’s face that they’d find nothing that way, but rules were rules and his superiors were the ones to lose face for it. He hardly cared for his own reputation.
In the doorway, Coby stood alert, diligently waiting for orders. Garp decided to give him some:
“Tell the Lieutenant Commander that permission has been granted.” He then gestured to the newly arrived woman. “And take her with you to every crate you mess with. We wouldn’t want to be made to pay extra for crates we won’t touch but can’t prove.”
Of course, with any luck, his men would be smart enough to search some of the crates without sign as Benny was distracted by Coby and Helmeppo.
Kanrya grinned like the proverbial fox, near about to the point if Garp could picture fox ears and a tail, it would fit her to a tee. Fleecing the government like this would probably turn out bad for her health but business was business. If she was going to play with the big dogs she needed to prove her worth.
“Benny, treat them right?” She purred out and grinned at the younger woman, who by chance flushed in embarrassment before turning to Coby. “Well shall we go through those crates like your friend wanted?” She asked trying not to let the flush show.
Kanrya smiled warmly as she watched the young woman escort the captain out, exhaling and then winced as her ribs ached. “So, back to whatever we were talking about…” She said as her gaze sharpened on the Marine in front of her.
Garp watched amused as Coby stuttered out a: “Y-yes, let’s g-go.” The young captain did a final salute before leaving the room and Garp grinned at him and wriggled his eyebrows suggestively, unable to resist messing with the young man a little. Coby reddened and practically ran out.
After the couple had left. Garp’s leer left his face. They had business to talk after all. “Yes, of course.” There’s been enough skirting around the subject already. “We received an anonymous tip saying you have been smuggling blueprints and sensitive documents in and out of marine bases. Presumably to the Revolutionaries.”
Personally Garp didn’t trust anonymous hints but he would rather accuse someone innocent rather than risk the chance of the hint being correct. No matter how much as he would like to stay neutral when it came to his son and son’s sons...
