"Senpai! How are you feeling? Have you eaten yet?"
*groans*Â
“Ahh. I’ve been better I suppose.”
“Y-Yeah, I warmed up a bit of what you left on the counter a little while ago.”
Morinaga was chewing on something when his eyes blinked into owlishness, suddenly aware of himself. Noticing the tiny details in his Senpai’s actions and mannerisms and words was something he prided himself in, but when it came to himself and how he acted outwardly, he could be rather dense. He picked up that something was amiss when he heard Souichi give him an unsolicited update.Â
Was he giving off a strange vibe? Maybe he said something strange? He tapped his chopsticks in his bentou box and his eyebrows pressed together. Maybe he made a strange face? He picked up the last bit of fish between his chopsticks and placed it into his mouth, disposing of the now empty box and washing his chopsticks in the sink. Man, was he bad at this.Â
He exited back into the living room and retrieved his bag from the floor, holding to his chest and throwing himself on the couch next to Souichi. He pulled at the straps of the bag until they clicked and it opened and sifted through folders of paperwork, mumbling labels to himself and fishing one out. He turned to regard Souichi with a smile.
“I’ve got something to finish up myself, so let’s work hard together.”Â
Spending time with Souichi was spending time, no matter the activity. At least in his book.
Souichi turned around for a moment to reply to Morinaga’s comment.Â
“A-Ah.” He replied rather dazed. He really was trying to finish his report so that he could be able to speak to Morinaga about his day. Since speaking with him that while ago about his resolve, Souichi did try and make a bit of an effort of make himself more approachable–not in a sexual way of course–but in a way that Morinaga would tell him about things that seemed to bother him. However, he now noticed that his partner had work to do of his own.Â
Therefore, would him finishing his report quickly be in vain? Surely, Morinaga would require some time to finish his own work. Then to add to it all, it was getting late. Soon, morning would come and they would have to go their separate ways again.
All of this ran through his mind as he opened up two tabs and compared the results to his reports. He used his finger to keep his pace and make sure everything match up. Silently mouthing words to check the sounding and grammar.Â
Running his fingers through his bangs to push them back, he poked at the enter bar, making way for his conclusion paragraph that he was attempting to finish up. He made sure he included the usual formalities and requirements. Then swiftly typing he wrote the last few lines, one to slightly summarize and another to bring forth a sort of spring-board idea for the reader to think about.
Click. Save. Finished.Â
Souichi sighed and leaned against the couch.Â
Morinaga’s eyes scanned through a multitude of papers, fingers walking across the top edges of different packets until he pinched one, sliding it from the stack and pulling it out to eyeball. He pressed the folder closed and set it on his lap, looking over the first couple of sentences of lab work when Souichi caught his attention again.Â
When he looked over Souichi had already sat back against the couch, looking more or less content from what Morinaga could tell. His glasses were low on his nose and his hair carpeted over most of his shoulders, going down his chest now that he was sitting back against the couch cushion.Â
Morinaga sighed through his nose, an involuntary smile thinning his lips and rounding his warming cheeks, wrinkling the corners of his eyes. A warmth spread through his chest and extended outwards, tingling down to his fingertips and low in his stomach, climbing up his throat and down to his toes. Souichi was beautiful, as always.Â
He leaned over, placing a quick kiss onto his Souichi’s cheek. “Have you finished your work?” He cooed gently, letting the papers in his hand take the backseat in favor of resting his head on Souichi’s shoulder. The warmth was welcome, and Morinaga took the opportunity and angle to appreciate more of Souichi’s features; primarily his strong jawline and long, stunning hair. Â
He nodded slightly in response to the other’s question. The quick kiss took him by surprise, oddly enough, and his body jerked up lightly as he raised his guard. Putting a hand over his cheek he turned to see that Morinaga was smiling ever so softly. And with that Souichi’s face became tinted red.
Stretching out his arm, he managed to close his laptop, then nestled himself back against the couch unconsciously so that Morinaga wouldn’t have to lean too far. His actions were unusually considerate.
Now he was finally ready to speak to Morinaga without any interruptions.
“We didn’t really go into detail about your day–did you want to talk about it?” He asked turning towards the other and putting his arms of the couch to make brief eye contact.
Souichi then caught notice of the stack of papers and folders Morinaga had beside him and immediately changed his focus. Remembering that Morinaga did have a job of his own now and his work wasn’t done conveniently when his was.
“Ah, sorry–I forgot you had your own things to work on. We can talk some other time.” Souichi went to get up from the floor, gently nudging Morinaga off his shoulder.
He felt awful in a sense. He couldn’t give Morinaga the attention he wanted to out of courtesy and now it would be lost.
Morinaga watched the gradual flush dust Souichi’s face and it widened his smile, a light chuckle leaving him high enough to sound more like a giggle. He would think that after all this time Souichi would be used to small displays of affection, but then again, Morinaga wasn’t surprised. Maybe he even preferred it this way.Â
Morinaga lifted his head slightly so that Souichi could close his laptop without the dead weight holding him back, but the motion was too gentle for Souichi not to have been trying to be considerate. Now it was his turn to be caught off guard.Â
He opened his mouth to speak but Souichi shifted gears too quickly, gently pushing Morinaga’s head away and seemingly moving to stand. Morinaga’s hand was quick to catch Souichi’s forearm before he could stand, fighting the urge to go a step further and lock their fingers together .
“It’s fine,” He said, voice blithe as ever. “I was only busying myself until you were finished.” He offered Souichi a smile.
