Lir snorted. “Yes, let’s not set the place on fire just yet, too early,” she agreed with a  sleepy hum. “And coffee, lots of it would be nice.”

Lir shook her head. “Yeah. No, I am not getting involed in this,” she stated smoothly. “And you only think I owe you a favor, so pass,” she went on.

Lir snorted. “Oh please. I got out of  that on my own. You were merely planning to help me,” she rolled her eyes.

“I need to go to Skaro to rescue my wife. That’s if she is still alive in the Dalek prison camp, and do something clever to keep her alive, which I haven’t actually thought of yet. That’s my day, that’s what I’m up to, any questions?”

Jack stared at her like she was mad. “Do you ever have any idea what’s going on day by day?  Ana. It was always Ana.”

Lir shook her head. “Wasn’t always and yes, timelined do tend to blur for me, it\s true,” she shrugged. “So. Ana. Skaro. How we do get there? Teleportation through time is not something the Dalek are keen on, if I recall right. Skaro is impenetrable to that sort of thing.”

“You think? The Daleks are desperate for teleportation.. just imagine a Dalek teleporting in front of you to exterminate you.”  Jack smirked. The very idea was terrifying. “I thought with all your gadgets, you would come up with something, less talk more action.”

Lir snorted. “You expect me to figure out a  way to get  through the Dalek teleportation shields in Skaro, of all places? You’ve access to the same  gadgets, or had, at least, Jack. What exactly would you suggest, especially given we’re trying to get to the Dalek homeworld for your benefit?”

Malcolm was told to run and he did. He ran so far leaving everything behind  but he hadn’t expected to fall into a different  universe and yet he had.

He rubbed his head  after he had hit the ground. His ears buzzing with  the sounds that were unfamiliar to him and someone calling him by a name that wasn’t his. Jack. They called him Jack and  he couldn’t be sure what their question  was.  He hadn’t been listening.

He pulls himself up to his feet looking at them.

“What? Do you normally go around making unfound accusations to people you don’t know?”  Malcolm was feeling rather unsteady on his feet  and wanting to be far away from the blonde woman than he could get.  They was just something deeply troubling and unpleasant  about her.

Lir  grumbled low enough not to be heard. “Simple enough question. What’s your name?”

“We are not going vampire hunting.  And that is my final word on the subject. Are you trying to cause a massacre?” Jack was glad his shirt covered the bite marks  from Alexandria earlier. He was also keeping her existence from Lir.  He had found the girl or rather she had found him, some months ago . It was soon apparent what she was  but she wasn’t a normal Vampire she was unique.  And she had bitten him and Jack hadn’t been turned. Which meant she could feed off him and there would be no ill affect for him. At least he didn’t have to worry about her going on hunts No that really was the least of Jack’s  worries. She mentioned witches and original Vampires before she had passed out in his bed having been in some fight . Jack wasn’t sure what was coming but having all the information would be needed.

The Torchwood hub begin to shake, violently as all the cell doors opened releasing the weevils into the hub. And then they were surrounded on all sides. He jumped up. “You know I really don’t want to have to kill any of you.” he knew it was pointless trying to reason with weevils when they didn’t understand. But something had unsettled them

Even in the position Malcolm  was  a smirk tugged at the corners of his lip. “I wondered when we would see some back bone from you. Well think about it we have been doing this for five years and you are no closer to defeating me,  seems any training you had has been wasted on you. Having nothing to lose  means those things cant be used against you it makes you a target.”

Lir rolled her eyes, the blade moving again, this time stopping just shy of the man’s  carotid artery. “Oh, I can kick your ass, easily too, make no mistake,” she  said  smoothly, taking a  step back pointedly. “I’m  just wondering what makes you think you’ll actually ever win. Given you’re all  talk and no real action,” the blonde smirked.

“You know they are parts of the world where  death is simply an illusion. I know because I went to one. I learnt to be very convincing . I returned because you needed my help, you don’t think that  situation  with the agency were swayed by your words. did you?  I still have resources you know, and one right in the Time Agency itself.  I set you free, that means you owe me a rather big favour.”

Lir rolled her eyes. “I don’t need your help or resources, I have my own. And, believe me when I say, there’llbe no illusion to what I’ll do to you if you don’t explain why you’re really here.”

“And yet if not for me  the agency would have sacrificed you for their greater good. A little bit of gratitude wouldn’t go amiss. I believe it is you had your own resources but now you have nothing. ”

Lir scoffed. “Bold of you to assume I’d just...what?Sit back and  be  sacrificed?” She asked  smoothly. “I’ve my resources, don’t worry about that.”

“You can’t  serious think I gave everyone immortality. I am telling   you  this has be Alien related” he says driving, coming across a pile up of vehicles which had suddenly stopped the traffic.   His little boy was strapped in the back of the car.    It was at times like this that he missed his wife. Missed her terribly. They weren’t just husband & wife, but a team. Benny used call  them Team Torchwood.

“So, I was thinking.. movie.. dinner, maybe a nice hotel, somewhere with linen.” Jack looks over at Lir, as the car came to a halt because of the traffic jam.

It was  Just one car in particular that was holding everything up.. “One thing I’m not doing is sitting in a traffic jam.” He unbuckles his seat belt. “By the way, Lir Welcome to America. We should go check and see if they need some help.” He gets out, starts walking towards the car that is holding everything up.

“When is it going to drawn on you that the Time Agency  don’t care? Even if they hadn’t shut down, they really don’t care.”  To be honest, Jack was tired of hearing about the Agency.  They stole things from him, that never sat  well with Jack.

Jack merely shrugged.  “Yes, why not? we both free  Agents. “  Jack walked on ahead finding the car at front of all chaos.  Two people,  One of which was so unrecognisable  as to been any kind of human,  that he wondered how they were even alive.  The female  in the passenger seat was someone he knew. “Ana?” he pulled and tugged at the door until   it had opened.

Ana felt her legs were crushed and couldn’t move them.  “Don’t suppose you have anything useful on you than a gun?” Jack asked lir

Lir shook her head. “My timeline, they’re still there. Their own agenda, to be sure, but hey, I have mine, as well,” she hummed. “And, really, you got to admit it would be dead handy to have their aid here, this…world shouldn’t even exist as it is right now, Jack,” she grimaced. Everything felt wrong, she wondered if Jack himself could feel it as well.

She’d fallen a bit behind, examining the situation, trying to log into any sort of global network, when she heard Jack cry out. The time agent ran then, catching up to find him pulling someone out of a car. Someone she too knew. 

Lir muttered a few curses as she reached into a hidden pocket un her body suit, producing a small crystal cube that she tossed to Jack. “Pocket time reversal, especially engineered to deal with injury,” she explained quickly. “Assuming it works under these circumstances.”

“Last I heard they wanted your head , so no it would be very bad if they were here. The time agency don’t care about the universe, they never did. Now once you accept that you will see things in a clearer light.” Jack scoffed. “ And this .. well its just like the old days.”  They were always dealing with horrific things. Like the time the rift started bleeding and the after shocks with history bleeding into the present day. 

“I think the other is past it. Jack says. And Ana well  the car is crushing her legs. we still going need something to cut her free before we can fix her injuries, then again maybe we don’t need to fix her injuries.” Jack remembered one time Ana had died and then she came back like nothing occurred, of course Lir wasn’t aware of that..

Lir shook her head. “Don’t worry about the Agency and me,” she said with a  shrug. “Just...you’re not making much sense,” she sighed. “Why would we not try to fix Ana’s injuries?” she asked.

They wasn’t that much Ana regretted about her choices. But every so often there it was. She remembers the rush, the competition  streak she had, the glamour and above  all the performances during her time on the ice. 

What Ana doesn’t miss is the early morning starts  for practice.   The immense pressure to fit a certain look, But right now she’s knee high in something that’s she is not sure she wants to know what it is.  

“What have I got myself into. Did I make a mistake joining  this Torchwood.”

Ana often called Luke asking if she made a mistake,  He was working for UNIT now. But his answer was always that she was helping the universe. Ana had to step back from skating after her injury . She was to have surgery in a few months. The pain was bearable because of the pain meds but sometimes like today were good days with no pain.

“What is it? It smells horrific.”

“For the sake of your sanity and mine,  I will not scan it or really  even try to guess, “Lir groaned, her voice tight. “I really don’t think we need to know or want to, really. There should be an access panel to let us out of here just past this next corner, though, so hang in there?”

“You will scan it.. you must. And Jack wanted us to bring it back. We not leaving it! Why is it whenever something exciting happens, you run away?” Ana  had to know what the creature was.

Lir frowned. “Because I am trying  very hard not to poke every timeline difference in the eye to see what it does?”She asked with a sigh.”And  that thing feels like something we should be taking back, alright. Dead.”

Nobody could really say Jack had no heart or he didn’t feel anything . Mostly guilt and regrets  but this little girl was alone with no real family because of him, So the least he could do was do something special for them. 

“I was thinking we could  buy a puppy.”All or most kids loved animals .

Lir sighed, shaking her head. “I thought the proper thing was not to buy animals, but to adopt them,” she said smoothly. “Other than that, sure, it’s a good idea, I suppose.”

“You still have to pay to adopt them,”  Jack points out, “Its my best idea yet, although  I might have to run it  through the home she is living in.”

Lir sighed. “Well, we both know you’ll do whatever you want, as  usual,” she said amusedly. “Just tell me if you need help.”

"Why didn't you tell me about this?"

“Because I thought I could handle it by myself,” Finn admitted, looking down at the ground. This felt like he was admitting a weakness. He hated it.

“You grin like you think this is funny. It took me months before I could open my curtains when I came home,” Finn pointed out. He ran a hand through his hair distractedly as he tried to pull his mind away from where he had stashed his blackout curtains. He wasn’t really upset about the whole situation, but it was certainly a concern he had had enough times the thought wasn’t funny.

“There’s a good breakfast place a couple blocks from here that will deliver. How do you feel about breakfast burritos and coffee?”

Lir hummed. “Want me to go have a  chat with your neighbours across  the street?” She asked smoothly, her tone indicating it would probably not be as amiable as the choice of word  implied. “Though, to be honest, well...you’re a  pretty nice view, if you don’t mind my saying so,” she smiled faintly. 

She nodded a  moment later though. “That sounds  like a  good breakfast, yes. As long as  we can add donuts too. Or cake.”

“Are you telling me that I could spout off in Latin and you would only vaguely have an idea of what I’m saying?” Finn joked before shrugging and leaning closer. “Let me see it again, maybe I can help.”

“The more I see that thing do, the more amazed I am,” Finn mused with a shake of his head. He focused on following Lir’s instructions and taking slow breaths to continue regaining his equilibrium after their quick travel. At least he had made it to the point he could walk without looking drunk.

“I would still keep an eye on our surroundings even if you did want to just fully trust your watch. Too many habits to break in one sitting,” he confessed simply. He nodded toward a sign he saw for a cafe. “That looks promising. Want to see what food they have?”

Lir nodded to his words. “Oh, believe me, I am. Trusting the tech is nice and it is handy, but trusting just that can and will get you killed,” she hummed, giving him an once over as  they walked. “Feeling any better?”She asked  gently, sparing a  glance to the sign he too had  spotted. “Let’s  do that, yes. Some  food will help steady you, I promise.”

A marriage & an proposal

“So  you did marry him?” Jack couldn’t resist  the smirking. “And how was your wedding night?”  He saw Ana in the corner of his eye, giving him that look as to say just stop. 

“Right.. tonight's the night. “ He jumps up, making a bee line to the dance floor.

Ana takes a sip of her drink. She’s not sure what to say. “How do you accidentally marry someone, anyway?”

“John said you and him got married which is why the venue looks like it does.” Ana has no idea if it’s true.

“ Also I think  Jack  is going ask  me to marry him. I found a ring, an engagement ring.”  

She glances over at the dance floor where Jack grabbed a mic and started singing. He clearly had hidden talents that even Ana wasn’t aware of.

Lir sighed, exhaling slowly. “Yes, well, John really wants me to dismantle his molecular structure and put him out of his misery. And Harkness singing is most definitely my cue to go,” she snorted, getting to her feet. “Coming?”

Double Trouble [Jenna & Malcolm Merlyn]

Taking advantage of  the fact they were  two pairs of them. Ana and Jack had slipped out early for some well needed  ice skating practice, leaving Jenna  & Malcolm to cover for the pair.  Jack had briefed them enough for them to pull it off. 

It wasn’t hard for either of them to pretend to be Jack and Ana their lives were somewhat similar and Jenna was a great actress. 

“So, some people came through here last night, while you were sleeping.” was that a  dig that Jenna felt Lir wasn’t a reliable person.  It really hadn’t taken Jenna long to get her feet under the kitchen table, so to speak. “They talk of a war. A war that hasn’t happened yet. We.. that is me & Jack have realised its not a war  that is happening presently but one from 150 years into the future, give or take”

“So this is the plan.” Malcolm speaks. “Well we cant send them back to the future. We are going have help them find new lives right here in Cardiff. Or in this time. Doesn’t have be Cardiff. Any ideas of where we are going put 30 odd people? Also, we have one unaccompanied child.”

Lir barely looked up from the folder she had opened next to a large mug of steaming hot chocolate. Paper folders, she could never get over the quaintness of them, she hummed to herself. 

“I think Torchwood owns quite a bit of property around town. If nothing is suitable, it should be relatively easy to make arrangements without really attracting attention,” she said coolly. 

She glanced up now, a smirk on her lips. “And where are Jack and Ana, then?”

He’s watching Ana on the web cam’s outside the base, as she leaves the base until she disappears off the screen.  Jack is lost in his own thoughts for a long moment. 

They are times when Jack is at his best, running Torchwood. And times he drifts off into his own world. then they are those times when Ana is in the room. And when she was, Jack was always paying attention. 

It’s been three years. Three years since he lost his wife. Benny, the mother of his little boy, Nobody talks about her much  she just lingers in the empty spaces but then most people don’t know who Benny was. only Gwen and Lir knew of her and the sacrifices she made that day. 

Looking back now it seemed Benny had a feeling that something might happen to her. She’d be naïve thinking she was untouchable, given the loss of Tosh, Owen and Ianto, years before.  They were conversations where she would say if anything happened to her,  that Jack shouldn't blame himself, that she wouldn't want Jack to be alone.

Jack suddenly speaks.  “Benny she’s just not trapped in a different world/different time. She’s stuck there and it’s forever. “  He is juggling Torchwood, with been a Dad to their child.  James was barely a year old when Benny was torn from them. 

 Jack often thought what if he had done things differently that day but he couldn't change it.  That rift  and the portal took so much from him that day. 

“ I want to take Ana out for dinner, maybe a movie or a show “  in  the three years after Benny he had looked at nobody, let alone flirting with anyone. He had lost that spark after losing his wife. “It’s just  a dinner.”  He says as if he feels a need to explain  “But it has be special. “  

Jack wasn’t even sure she would want to go to dinner  out with him. After a while one gets used to  meals with one, or just him and his little boy .  But he needs it regardless, some resemblance  of a normal life.  

They was a connection there with Ana, despite trying keep her at arms length to protect her.. to keep her safe. Ana made  everything better , or as much as one could. She was a Torchwood Intern. And Jack was training her to be a field op. So he was spending a lot of time with her. But he wanted to spend time with  her away from work.

“The singing towers.” He had heard about that. “I think that could be perfect. “ Jack was definitely out to impress. And Ana would be first girl he would taken out  since Benny had been lost to him. “This might surprise you to know, but I think  Benny wanted me to be with Ana  A lot of rather connected events  which  put me in her path.”

Lir shrugged coolly. “It’s settled then. I’ll send a comm out,so they know to expect you,” she said. “And you know I don’t really believe in that sort of thing, Jack,” she sighed amusedly. “Benny’s gone, you were on the rebound, ana came by your path. It is what it is.”She sighed. “Just try not to break her heart. Or yours, really.”
