Gabriel had flinched when Updike yelled, causing a tiny bit of stuffing to come out of his leg and for him to grip his detached leg a little more.

His expression showed worry and guilt for accidentally scaring Updike.

“This is my home. As for my name, I’m Gabriel. But my creator said my title was Gabriel the fluffy friend…”

Updike stared at the file, completely silent. He should have seen this coming, but unfortunately he didnt. The guilt welled in his chest again, but he knew he had no choice. His mind and thoughts being altered, he couldn't see it in himself to decline.

This is for the greater good, after all.

Whitty was playing in the front yard. He was walking around, using a big stick like it was a staff. He was covered in dirt and grass, likely from playing. Seems he's been out there for a while. Carol was inside, likely preparing dinner, which means Whitty was left unattended outside. No bystanders.

Updike felt a tug at his chest, his cold expression faltering. This felt so, so wrong. But he had to, didn't he? He had to. He had to...

He approached Whitty slowly, forcing a gentle smile. "Hello, there. Having fun?" He said softly, his hands behind his back... His right hand firmly clenching his pistol.

He looked over at Updike, his eyes lighting up. He dropped his stick and ran towards him with his arms open. "Updiiiike!!" He wrapped his arms around him, smiling wide. "I'm glad you're here, I missed you!" He giggled, holding Updike as tight as he could. Which is... very tight considering his strength.

Updike let out a small grunt when Whitty hugged him, forcing a wider smile as the pain in his chest got worse... Almost too bad to bear. "I missed you too, kiddo.." He mumbled, wrapping his arms around Whitty in turn, keeping his gun out of sight but pointing it to Whitty's back.

The front door swings open, revealing Carol holding a kitchen knife. It has chopped vegetable residue on it, so it was likely being used for cooking. "Whitty, who are you-" She immediately notices the gun pointed to Whitty's back by Gabriel Updike him-fucking-self. She immediately runs up and pushes Updike away with the hand her weapon was in, and pulls Whitty away from him with her other. Her eyes are wide and full of rage, and they're looking right at Updike. "What do you think you're doing?"

He fell backwards onto his ass with a soft pained sound, before looking up at Carol with terror in his eyes. He didn't respond, opening his mouth briefly but no words came out. His words were choked back, stuck in his throat in a painful blockage of guilt. He shuffled back a bit, staining his white outfit with dirt.

She let go of Whitty, using her now free hand to grab him by the collar to lean in closer. With their faces inches away from each other, she shook him a bit and screamed. "Answer me, you fucking idiot! What the fuck do you think you're doing with my kid!?" Whitty, confused and scared as of what was going on, just kinda stood there. He fidgeted with his hands as he thought of what to do. It's hard to think of something when you don't know what's going on.

The pressure was crushing, suffocating, and terrifying. He closed his eyes tight and forced out a choked "I-I must.- I have to-..." His body was shaking, his breaths were barely escaping properly, and his fist tightening on his gun, which he'd hoped Whitty wouldn't notice. "P-Please-..."

Carol huffed, swinging the knife in her hand up in the air. It stayed there for a moment as Carol looked down at Updike. She thought back to the time he came to their house to apologize. He had no weapon on him, his fur was gray, it all seemed so... genuine. And he remained kind and considerate enough so they would help him escape the SCP Foundation, and he hugged her in the alleyway afterwards. Was this all a lie? Tricking the two into caring about him because he knew Whitty would come save him, and once he was done with them he'd just kill him off? She hates to think it could be a possibility, but it was the only thing she could think of... She snapped herself out of thought, it's no use thinking about it right now, all she needs to do is protect her kid. Using all her might, she swings her arm down to stab Updike. But before the blade hit his skin, someone caught her arm. "Carol, stop! What are you doing?" Whitty looks a little more saturated, his pupils looking more like they're shaking instead of flashing symbols. The end of his fuse is not lit, but smoke is coming off of it. "Don't hurt him! He wasn't doing anything!"

He stared up at the blade, eyes wide and mouth hung agape, his breath heavy and his chest pounding with adrenaline. "I-... I'm-.." He tried to speak, but his mind was swirling. Part of him wanted to break down sobbing, apologizing, the other part of him was screaming to shoot both of them and run... And there was another part of him that had just hoped Carol would succeed in stabbing him.

But no words came out. He didn't move, completely stunned and paralyzed. His breath was heavy. There was only one thing all these contradicting thoughts could agree on.... The safest option for him....

He tossed the gun away and put his hands up in surrender, breath heavy.

Carol grunted trying to yank her arm away from Whitty, but his grip was strong. After a moment, she sighed and gave up, dropping the knife on the ground. Whitty slowly let go of her arm, stepping back. She just looked at Updike with a blank expression, still holding him by the collar. "... After everything? He forgave you, he saved your fucking life, he thought of you as a friend- I thought of you as a friend. and all you still care about is the "greater good?" You-" She stopped to laugh a bit, placing her hand on her forehead. "You know he's a kid, right? He might not be human, but he's still a kid. You have no right to treat him like this, to trick him and use him. To throw him away once you're done with him. Not when I'm here."

"...You're right..." He said softly. "I don't... Know what came over me." He added, looking Carol in the eyes with tears welling in his. Despite the fact his eyes were all-black, Carol could tell he was making eye contact. "I wasn't.. I wasn't in control of my thoughts, I didn't... I knew it was wrong, but I couldn't.. I couldn't stop.. I.. God-..."

He fell silent, sitting up slightly and staring down at the ground. "I've betrayed your trust. I... I don't even deserve to apologize for this." He put his hand on his face, holding back tears as he rubbed his temples.

"Thank you, Carol.. For stopping me... That was... Heinous..." He said quietly. "God, what's wrong with me...? I would never harm a child, so why-???" He couldn't fathom how he could do something like this, how he could nearly kill an innocent child, much less one who considered him a friend. "Why did I do that..?" He stared at his hands.

Carol looked at him for a moment, before letting go. This caused Whitty to immediately jump in and hug Updike. He wasn't sure how to help, so he thought this was the best thing to do. Carol reached out to pull him away, but she stopped herself. She wanted to have faith in Whitty and his choice to be friends with Updike, but it was hard to keep up when he's put in danger so often. Carol picked the knife up off the ground, and stood by.

Updike looked at Whitty and hugged him tight, breaking into soft tears. "I'm so sorry, Whitty..." He said softly, eyes squeezed tight and face going pale... Well, as pale as he could be. Dark clouds rolled in, and rain started to fall, a thunderclap ROARING through the skies, causing Updike to flinch. His fur was dark gray, nearly black, as he protectively held onto Whitty in hopes it would make everything okay again.

Whitty held on tight, pulling on Updike's suit. "It's okay, it's okay." He wasn't sure what else to say, he still doesn't completely know what's going on, but he knew he had to comfort him. Carol sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. She didn't want to stand out in the rain to wait for them, but she didn't want to leave Whitty alone with him. She doesn't really want to do this, but... "Updike, you wanna come inside? I would rather not stand in the rain. I also have food cooking and don't want my entire house to burn down." This made Whitty turn around to look at her, slightly confused. "He... he can come in?" Carol, not wanting to explain, just nodded.

"N-No, I can't- I can't possibly-.." he mumbled, looking up at Carol with concern. He felt terrible, he couldn't accept this.. Could he? He let go of Whitty, staring at the mud on his clothes. "You can't truly trust me in your home after this..."

He added, brushing off the dirt on him, although his clothes were still stained due to the water letting the dirt soak into his suit. Luckily the coat-tails of his jacket prevented his pants from getting too badly stained, so he wouldn't really need to change past just taking off the jacket.

Updike stared at the file, completely silent. He should have seen this coming, but unfortunately he didnt. The guilt welled in his chest again, but he knew he had no choice. His mind and thoughts being altered, he couldn't see it in himself to decline.

Whitty was playing in the front yard. He was walking around, using a big stick like it was a staff. He was covered in dirt and grass, likely from playing. Seems he's been out there for a while. Carol was inside, likely preparing dinner, which means Whitty was left unattended outside. No bystanders.

Updike felt a tug at his chest, his cold expression faltering. This felt so, so wrong. But he had to, didn't he? He had to. He had to...

He approached Whitty slowly, forcing a gentle smile. "Hello, there. Having fun?" He said softly, his hands behind his back... His right hand firmly clenching his pistol.

He looked over at Updike, his eyes lighting up. He dropped his stick and ran towards him with his arms open. "Updiiiike!!" He wrapped his arms around him, smiling wide. "I'm glad you're here, I missed you!" He giggled, holding Updike as tight as he could. Which is... very tight considering his strength.

Updike let out a small grunt when Whitty hugged him, forcing a wider smile as the pain in his chest got worse... Almost too bad to bear. "I missed you too, kiddo.." He mumbled, wrapping his arms around Whitty in turn, keeping his gun out of sight but pointing it to Whitty's back.

The front door swings open, revealing Carol holding a kitchen knife. It has chopped vegetable residue on it, so it was likely being used for cooking. "Whitty, who are you-" She immediately notices the gun pointed to Whitty's back by Gabriel Updike him-fucking-self. She immediately runs up and pushes Updike away with the hand her weapon was in, and pulls Whitty away from him with her other. Her eyes are wide and full of rage, and they're looking right at Updike. "What do you think you're doing?"

He fell backwards onto his ass with a soft pained sound, before looking up at Carol with terror in his eyes. He didn't respond, opening his mouth briefly but no words came out. His words were choked back, stuck in his throat in a painful blockage of guilt. He shuffled back a bit, staining his white outfit with dirt.

I don't know.

Please, god, stop me.

She let go of Whitty, using her now free hand to grab him by the collar to lean in closer. With their faces inches away from each other, she shook him a bit and screamed. "Answer me, you fucking idiot! What the fuck do you think you're doing with my kid!?" Whitty, confused and scared as of what was going on, just kinda stood there. He fidgeted with his hands as he thought of what to do. It's hard to think of something when you don't know what's going on.

The pressure was crushing, suffocating, and terrifying. He closed his eyes tight and forced out a choked "I-I must.- I have to-..." His body was shaking, his breaths were barely escaping properly, and his fist tightening on his gun, which he'd hoped Whitty wouldn't notice. "P-Please-..."

Carol huffed, swinging the knife in her hand up in the air. It stayed there for a moment as Carol looked down at Updike. She thought back to the time he came to their house to apologize. He had no weapon on him, his fur was gray, it all seemed so... genuine. And he remained kind and considerate enough so they would help him escape the SCP Foundation, and he hugged her in the alleyway afterwards. Was this all a lie? Tricking the two into caring about him because he knew Whitty would come save him, and once he was done with them he'd just kill him off? She hates to think it could be a possibility, but it was the only thing she could think of... She snapped herself out of thought, it's no use thinking about it right now, all she needs to do is protect her kid. Using all her might, she swings her arm down to stab Updike. But before the blade hit his skin, someone caught her arm. "Carol, stop! What are you doing?" Whitty looks a little more saturated, his pupils looking more like they're shaking instead of flashing symbols. The end of his fuse is not lit, but smoke is coming off of it. "Don't hurt him! He wasn't doing anything!"

He stared up at the blade, eyes wide and mouth hung agape, his breath heavy and his chest pounding with adrenaline. "I-... I'm-.." He tried to speak, but his mind was swirling. Part of him wanted to break down sobbing, apologizing, the other part of him was screaming to shoot both of them and run... And there was another part of him that had just hoped Carol would succeed in stabbing him.

But no words came out. He didn't move, completely stunned and paralyzed. His breath was heavy. There was only one thing all these contradicting thoughts could agree on.... The safest option for him....

He tossed the gun away and put his hands up in surrender, breath heavy.
