I am a lesbian. I am gay. I am queer.
I got the news yesterday afternoon. 50 members and friends of the LGBTQ community killed in a place they thought was safe. One of the few places where people like me, people like -them- are accepted and celebrated without outside scrutiny. A safe haven.
It didn’t actually hit me until I went to bed, because I couldn’t sleep. I am lucky to live in a place where I don’t have to fear for my life for being queer, but it’s a harsh reality that that might actually not be true. I am scared and sad and devastated. But I know love will always win, even if it might take a hundred years.
Some of the lines in this song were heavily inspired by words said by James Corden and Lin Manuel-Miranda at the Tony Awards yesterday. I hope I do the words justice. The song is called ‘Pulse’.
