Today is @brisksunrise’s birthday, I prepared this small detail to celebrate!
I’ve been following Brisk for quite a while, its art has been very inspiring and joy-inducing to me. Much of that comes from the sheer fun it seems to have making these characters and settings (also the cuteness, can’t forget about that), which in turn made me try to have more fun making art!
Here we have 16 characters of its. Maybe your favorite OC from Brisk is not here, if that’s so, I’m sorry! I only had so much space and I’m not very good at making… stuff... Maybe I could draw more next year.
But for now, Happy Birthday, Brisk Sunrise!
‘Talking about the characters’ section of the post:
Brisket: I debated myself if I should leave the eye as a cartoon eye or as a black dot. I went with the first since it contrasted better with the fur color. Brisket mischief is an inspiration to us all.
Gooreta: I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know anything about dragon quest, but I’ve associated this character with Brisk for a while now, since it’s its profile picture on DA. Between her, Sandy and Otto, I’ve experimented a lot with shiny textures, which I didn’t think I would like as much as I did.
Holly: It would have been a crime not to include any Serugs, I think. Holly’s story resonated more with me, so I chose her to be in the group.
Princess Ryusuke and Raiga: May be recency bias, but I think these two are super cute! You may notice that Ryusuke’s pose is literally copied from Raiga’s introduction page; the cause is that I didn’t feel very confident in my posing skills during the time I was making that drawing, so I just copied it as best as I could and called it a day…
Paskel: I though this one would give me trouble, as she has many, many colors and patterns. Adding contrast outlines surely helped to separate the shapes.
Nori and Thistle: I wanted to give it a shot at drawing the texture for a simulaquin, I think it turned out ok! Nori and Thistle are the only characters that maybe don’t make a lot of sense to be interacting together, but it is MY drawing so I get to decide!
Maeve: Cute story, cute character. I mean what even is there left to say? Maeve struck me as the most free and happy character of this bunch, I wanted to reflect that.
Sandy: Believe it or not, Sandy is the one who gave me the most trouble; between trying to make the plastic look ok and forgetting to add her balloon valve last second, I went back to this character at least 4 times. Also, she used the most layers out of all the characters, 10 in total! Even if she’s the tiniest character in the picture, I wanted to get all the details right…
Princess Alto: For Alto, I had to use more contrast outlines to mark the shapes, as I felt the colors didn’t contrast well enough (in reality it’s probably because my lineart is too thin compared to the original art).
Pippi and Otto: You can really tell I was getting tired by the time I drew these two (they were the last characters I drew). I worked on this whole collage during the nights for 3 days straight, so my tiredness hindered my output.
I’ve never been into object TFs (mostly because it sounds like torture), but seeing that Brisk’s characters at least tolerate (or even welcome) their new state is pretty nice. Otto’s design is very cute specially her face with heart shaped irises.
Jamma, Luciana and Muffin: The OGs, not because they were the first to be created, but because Muffin’s story and character is what got me to finally pick up art after being so depressed for so long. Jamma was included as a nod to the T.O.A.S.T.E.D. organization.
Luciana and Muffin’s story means a lot to me, and I’m glad for their existence. I wasn’t into plushie TFs too much before I saw this story (not a plushie gal myself, really), but now I kinda vibe with the idea of having an irl Muffin plushie (heck, my own avatar is a legally distinct plushie now).
Anyway that’s it hope you liked it (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
