" you might laugh because every time i sign my name i put a gold star after it, but it's a metaphor. and metaphors are important. my gold stars are a metaphor for me being a star. "

wait, is that RACHEL BERRY? they kinda look a lot like MAUDE APATOW, don’t they? i heard the TWENTY-ONE year old is known as the OVERACHIEVER around mckinley. it seems like they auditioned to be in NEW DIRECTIONS which is so lame? people at campus have said they’re AMBITIOUS, but don’t be fooled since they’re also NARCISSISTIC. rumor has it, you can find them at DRAMA, DANCE/BALLET, GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE, & ENVIRONMENT CLUB when they aren’t belting show tunes. their entire vibe revolves around GOLD STARS (IT'S A METAPHOR), THE EUPHORIC FEELING OF CROSSING SOMETHING OFF OF YOUR TO-DO LIST, & A GHOSTLIGHT SHINING ON A DARKENED STAGE but no one pays attention to that here in ohio.

HEADCANONS
rachel has always been an overachiever, joining club after club, spearheading group projects to the point where she just does them herself, etc. back in high school she had the excuse that it was to get into a good college. now it's simply a habit that she can't break. if her hand isn't up first in class when the teacher asks a question then something is seriously wrong.
rachel knows she's unpopular and she's very much aware of why (she can be too much for people sometimes and she's very focused on her own future, to the detriment of those around her), but it does weigh on her. she is more insecure than one might imagine and she longs to have some of the college experiences that movies have popularized.
her insecurity does not extend to her talent. she knows that she's too good for small town ohio and it kills her that she's wasting away some of her precious ingenue years, but college show choir is a real way to get attention. and it's important to have the training that a college like mckinley provides on a resume, even if one doesn't actually need it.
rachel likes to be in control of situations. she doesn't drink or consume any mind-altering substances and she gets the proper amount of sleep each night so she's always sharp. she has her routines and she's perfected them. however, if her control of a situation starts to slip, there's no knowing what she'll do.
for example, if she's been threatened by someone else's talent in glee club, the one slushie-free safe haven she's constructed at mckinley, maybe she'd go so far as to send that person to a non-active crack house to get them out of the picture...
Oh, I kinda thought that you wanted us to like... keep rehearsing like normal. I mean I am def happy to do some group ones still if others wanna. I don't wanna lose the progress in my awesome dance moves. Gotta keep the hips loosey goosey, ya know what I mean? I am totally behind ya if you wanna try and make sure everyone else keeps practising too. If ya need another leader to help win, I can totally be your dude for the job.
No, no. I don't think it would be realistic to get everyone together, as not everyone is local. However, I do like your idea about groups. Small group sessions could be beneficial for those of us who are around... Exactly. And when you say that do you mean... like a co-captain?
I have no control over the soundproofing of rooms that aren't mine. But what a fascinating thing to say. I know that my level of talent can be intimidating, but my warmups being such a distraction that they're considered cheating is a new one for me. Unfortunately for you, I won't be stopping.
Ya know, sometimes some rest and recovery is totally as good as the mega-grind to make sure everything is awesome. We wanna be stars, but like even stars run outta gas and eventually fizzle out when stuff gets too much.
And everyone is welcome to relax and recover from the semester. I don't think that keeping up with rehearsals independently will push anyone over the edge, Sam. Everyone knows that choreography is our weakness. If we keep up with things the way we have been, I think we'll surprise them all at Sectionals.
Has anyone on the New Directions outside of yourself ever been motivated to actually rehearse? No offence, but half of the guys on the team would trip over their own feet if you did anything more than the dad two-step on the stage whilst performing.
Yes. It might surprise you to know that the people complaining about my request are largely not my teammates. We've improved our choreography since Invitationals and I believe we're truly the ones to watch this year. But what about the Warblers? Any rehearsals over break for you?
Yes, your part of the group numbers. If you're worried about looking ridiculous in front of your family for dancing, you could wait until you're alone. But there's really nothing to be embarrassed about.
Obviously. I'm very aware of the fact that we're not Vocal Adrenaline - I have us rehearse much less and we have very different strengths. I'm playing to those strengths with my insistence that we keep our momentum during this very long break. It wouldn't surprise me if they were all called back for rehearsals days, if not weeks, prior to the start of the spring semester.
Thank you. Members of other show choirs seem to think that it's a horrible request, but I don't think I'm asking for much. And I agree! I'm expecting that we'll all come back refreshed and eager to dive into the spring semester and competition season.
And? Most of the days between semesters are not a holiday. I'm not suggesting that everyone needs to rehearse on Christmas day - though I will be. We're simply gone for so long that I don't want anyone forgetting all that we've already learned. Any good team captain would be insisting the same!
Christmas is right around the corner. I've been working the last five weeks as Mrs. Clause at Lima Mall...so tired of having my ass pinched and fighting with screaming children. Ready for a selfish Lopez get-away somewhere tropical, with booze, hotties...and endless gifts from the rents. Like run me my yearly stipend.
I may not be the most familiar with Christmas, but ass pinching and fighting with children doesn't seem very in the spirit of the holiday. Is that... normal in the Mrs. Clause line of work?
whatever. maybe, but when i stretch, i don't make a whole show about it. ...unless maybe if there's a hot guy nearby - but that's not the point. i'm not going around annoying people with it.
Do you expect me to do silent vocal warmups? That defeats the purpose. It doesn't matter who is around me, I would never go into a performance without having warmed up.
You gotta put food in to help build stamina though. Can't get through a dance routine if you don't have any energy. I can do the dancing and singing but it'll probably be to Christmas songs after a lot of drinks on Christmas Eve. I'm not sure the family will appreciate the setlist itself.
I don't disagree - food is important, but only doing the eating doesn't count. I will allow for a substitution of festive songs, but please practice the choreography. Sober. If we're going to be real competition for Vocal Adrenaline, we need sharp turns and synchronized movement.
you want them to keep practicing during winter break? the whole point is that it's supposed to be a break. you're as bad as the professors that assign projects during the holidays.
thank god you're not on my team - i'm not gonna waste my precious time out on the slopes to make those weird bird calls you insist on doing before competitions. you know we can all hear you in the hallway, right?
Do you mean warmups? As someone who spends time out on the slopes, you should know just how important such a thing is. And it's not like I'm calling a group rehearsal. It's no different from cheerleaders and football players having to maintain their training regimen! Show choir should be taken just as seriously.
The break between semesters may be coming up, but just a reminder to my fellow members of the New Directions - this time away is not time to get complacent! Sectionals is on the horizon. Please be sure to put in the same amount of rehearsal hours as we would normally have.
