“Out? Oh, of course I’d be happy to, where did you have in mind?” Though Rue was pleasantly surprised by the sudden invitation she assumed it was normal for couples.

“Now that I’m older I think it’s really clever. Like if you don’t know how to tell a girl or anyone something they can take the details of the tea or the tea set to understand. But I don’t think that would work a lot nowadays.” He sighed and then smiled softly at her. “Thank you.”

“Well of course, I think that’s quite interesting. Almost like tea reading in a way but without the hassle of letting the tea leaves dry. Or, no not really like that. But close...I do think it’s very clever. Where is this place?” Rue returned the smile,“You could show me a couple when we get there?”

“I am quite aware of what the definition of  holiday is, however historically speaking, the only thing that determines when a holiday is celebrated would be tradition, and traditions by definition have to be started at some point. It is entirely probable that you are merely witnessing the beginning of such a tradition and years from now, this ‘Christmas is July’ that you speak of with not be so uncommon.

You second statement does not make sense to me. You demand others respect the cultural importance of a holiday, yet do not respect the origins of other people attempting to start a holiday.”

“If you are aware then you should act like it. Tradition is something I mean to respect in everything I do in the holiday worlds, of course. But I can not respect Auradon attempting to start a tradition which is started out of disrespect for another. Christmas itself isn’t one of my favorite holidays but that doesn’t mean it should be brought up just for the sake of selling toys early in the year and playing cheesy movies on TV. I could respect this attempt at a holiday origin if it meant that Auradon treated it right.”

“Fern have you been sending nightmares out into the school? Some human came up to me blaming me for them. What was her name...Iris? Whatever it was she is mad. Good job, can’t say I’ve ever done well with nightmares and she looked positively sleep deprived. I hope she earned it?” - Rue

“Yes, unpleasantly so. I would say I would think it was funny if they hadn’t had the audacity to greet me with a smack upside the head. Whatever you did to them must have been devilishly frightening. Can I ask which of their fears you used? Last I checked their were so many.”

“She’s claustrophobic, no clue why. I messed with the lights in her room a little, made her hear voices- that whole ‘baby crying’ thing- and locked her in her closet. I would’ve left her there but I guess her roommate found her in the morning.”

“Oh yes, I picked up on the baby cries last time I saw them. I suppose that’s why they believed it to be me. Really though I don’t work in sleep, told them so but they refuse to believe me. It is a little funny.”

Hyson looked at the ground and then back at Rue a soft blush shown on his cheeks. “I can even tell you about tea ceremonies and the different types of tea. And you can stop me if I in anyway bore you. It was boring to me when I learned about it as a kid.” He rambled a bit and gently took her hand in his.

“Bore me? I doubt you could. If it’s not boring for you to talk about then it’s not boring for me to listen to,” Which was true, anything new she could learn (especially from someone she liked) was a pleasure to hear.

Ingrid was on her last stitch and if the little brat thought they were going to get away with it they had another thing coming at them. Rue hasn’t caused the nightmares ( though she knew who could have ) But was very glad someone had shown Ingrid a ‘good’ time. Rue looked down at the shoulder Ingrid had pushed and sighed heavily, rolling up her sleeves to reveal the arm coming off at the seam, she began pulling at the string and when the arm was halfway tightened she looked up and eyed Ingrid carefully. Rue stepped forward without stopping, intent on cornering them while still fiddling with the string, “Now look what you’ve done. Listen to me and listen good because I will not repeat myself. I do not do nightmares, not only are they below me but I prefer to work in the very very real world. I prefer to work in a world where people like you exist. Because, doll, people like you are the funnest to scare. What was the fiasco about last time? A spider? Snake? Or a cry? I can’t remember exactly, all of you average humans tend to blend together in one great ball of fears to play around with. But I digress, if you ever, and I mean ever, set another hand on me I will make sure every fearful force I find is set on you. You think nightmares are bad? You haven’t seen anything.”

The fact that Rue knew Ingrid’s fears could be set off by something as small as a infant crying - that couldn’t have been said innocently. She knew. There was no one else with the ability to know that, so as much as Rue excused herself and claimed innocence, no way was Rue getting away with terrifying Ingrid any more.

“Listen here, half-pint, I saw scarier shit than you before I was 3, there’s nothing you can show me that I haven’t had shoved in my face before,” Honestly, Ingrid was a little offended that Rue thought they couldn’t handle anything. Ingrid could handle whatever the hell the world wanted to throw at them, watch them, “I don’t care about your stupid arm, I don’t care how much you think you care scare me,” Ingrid leaned in closer with an intensity in their eyes, lowering their voice for once for the sake of secrecy, “I don’t want to be shoved back into that closet, Rue. You can’t do that to me.”

Rue looked down at Ingrid and raised an eyebrow before taking a step back for personal space. They was right, her naming off the fears wasn’t innocent at all. Rue did hate when someone panicked because of fears. But she was guessing this was Fern’s work and was definitely not her own so she didn’t feel anything about it. She squared her shoulders and stared unblinkingly at Ingrid, “If you please,” She sighed and cocked her head to the side, “I only sense fears, not how well someone can handle them. Maybe it’s the lack of feeling, maybe it’s the fact that half of the time I do not care.”

That was true, Rue cared about how she scared when she liked the person, and Ingrid wasn’t someone she liked,“I’ll say this again, I don’t do nightmares. I physically can not produce a nightmare,” She plucked a spider from Ingrid’s shoulder before throwing it over her shoulder and it disappearing,“I do physical. You feeling backed up in a closet is not my problem, though never my intention unless you should be deemed...deserving.”

Rue nodded at him, not even noticing the name change at first, “Auradon will be Auradon, glad to hear there are people who appreciate the best holiday ever created. People here have the wrong idea about being frightened then, they should realize that it’s n-…Sue? We. Have. Been. Through. This. Rue. My name is Rue,” Her tone was gradually building up to being more and more peeved off and thoughts of dismembering her own arm to smack him sounded like good idea, “Don’t do it again.”

 He would’ve smirked at her sudden shift in tone but he knew if he showed anything, she’d be more agitated. So he just looks at her with a blank expression on his face and crosses his arms. “Whatever you say, Glue.” Really at this point he’s just asking for it, but it’s not like she couldn’t play along and call him by the wrong name either. Fern does it. “Set up a Halloween appreciation club then or something. Educate the masses.”

Rue didn’t care to try and get his name wrong, she knew that River was playing at something. If he wanted to play, fine, Rue could play along just as well if not better. Of course she had to read into his fears now, she talked slowly as she shifted,“I don’t think a Halloween Appreciation Club would be well appreciated, am I right?” Of course she was right, and right about now River would be seeing visions of himself losing...what? Control...over himself. Rue’s mind wandered further, what was he so afraid of losing control over? Bringing a fear in it and making a person live it didn’t always require Rue to know what was going on, so long as they were afraid of something, “Personally I just want people to acknowledge a holiday correctly or not acknowledge it at all,”

“I simply can’t understand why another Christmas is necessary. Especially right before holidays begin to start, and in the complete wrong season for another Christmas. I thought Sandy Claws would be busy getting ready for this holiday rather than hosting another one.”

Peggy frowned, positively fuming. This wasn’t the first time she’d been called annoying, and definitely would not be the last. She hated being told that though, or being treated like a kid when she was upset, “When you get all bent outta shape cus they didn’t put the right fireworks in the pumpkins under the Christmas tree, would you wanna be called annoying?” Peggy had very little concept of Auradon holidays, but her point still stood, she thought.

She really couldn’t believe what she was hearing, this girl obviously suffered from some type of delusions, “First off, that’s definitely not how any of that works.
