"Let's go out to eat." Hyson smiled at Rue happily decided that he wanted to take her out for a date since they had only been on around two so far.
âOut? Oh, of course Iâd be happy to, where did you have in mind?â Though Rue was pleasantly surprised by the sudden invitation she assumed it was normal for couples.
@askthefutureemperor
âNow that Iâm older I think itâs really clever. Like if you donât know how to tell a girl or anyone something they can take the details of the tea or the tea set to understand. But I donât think that would work a lot nowadays.â He sighed and then smiled softly at her. âThank you.â
âWell of course, I think thatâs quite interesting. Almost like tea reading in a way but without the hassle of letting the tea leaves dry. Or, no not really like that. But close...I do think itâs very clever. Where is this place?â Rue returned the smile,âYou could show me a couple when we get there?â
asktheprincessofhalloweenâ:
âWell, obviously you canât have read of everything if you donât take issue with it. A holiday is a festivity thatâs meant to be celebrated at certain times. Some holidays, such as Christmas, have specified times to celebrate them as per the culture celebrating it. I take offense that Auradon only seems to be celebrating- and horribly mild at that- for marketing reasons. As someone who is invested in holidays, and is mostly emotionless, I also take offense to the implication that all holidays are just frivolous. Holidays carry a cultural importance that varies from origin to origin.â
âI am quite aware of what the definition of holiday is, however historically speaking, the only thing that determines when a holiday is celebrated would be tradition, and traditions by definition have to be started at some point. It is entirely probable that you are merely witnessing the beginning of such a tradition and years from now, this âChristmas is Julyâ that you speak of with not be so uncommon.
You second statement does not make sense to me. You demand others respect the cultural importance of a holiday, yet do not respect the origins of other people attempting to start a holiday.â
âIf you are aware then you should act like it. Tradition is something I mean to respect in everything I do in the holiday worlds, of course. But I can not respect Auradon attempting to start a tradition which is started out of disrespect for another. Christmas itself isnât one of my favorite holidays but that doesnât mean it should be brought up just for the sake of selling toys early in the year and playing cheesy movies on TV. I could respect this attempt at a holiday origin if it meant that Auradon treated it right.â
âFern have you been sending nightmares out into the school? Some human came up to me blaming me for them. What was her name...Iris? Whatever it was she is mad. Good job, canât say Iâve ever done well with nightmares and she looked positively sleep deprived. I hope she earned it?â - Rue
âMore like deserved it. Iâd say sorry you got caught in the crossfire but thatâs actually pretty funny she thought it came from you. Youâve had a tussle with her too?â
@asktheprincessofhalloween
âYes, unpleasantly so. I would say I would think it was funny if they hadnât had the audacity to greet me with a smack upside the head. Whatever you did to them must have been devilishly frightening. Can I ask which of their fears you used? Last I checked their were so many.â
âSheâs claustrophobic, no clue why. I messed with the lights in her room a little, made her hear voices- that whole âbaby cryingâ thing- and locked her in her closet. I wouldâve left her there but I guess her roommate found her in the morning.â
âOh yes, I picked up on the baby cries last time I saw them. I suppose thatâs why they believed it to be me. Really though I donât work in sleep, told them so but they refuse to believe me. It is a little funny.â
You know what sucks???
The fact that its not Halloween yet

âIâm ridiculing Auradon for over glorifying a holiday and for taking a holiday out of its context. A holiday is meant to be celebrated once a year, and the fact that theyâve taken Christmas and are almost celebrating it during the wrong time of year is insulting.â
âI was unaware that Auradon implemented such celebrations. Iâve never read of such an occasion, however I am not surprised at all Auradon increases the time spent on each holiday as much as possible, they are known for frivolous spending.
I do take issue with the idea that one could be insulted at a holiday celebrated at the âwrong timeâ, as you so put it. Holidays are entirely frivolous and therefore, so is becoming emotionally invested in them.â

Hyson looked at the ground and then back at Rue a soft blush shown on his cheeks. âI can even tell you about tea ceremonies and the different types of tea. And you can stop me if I in anyway bore you. It was boring to me when I learned about it as a kid.â He rambled a bit and gently took her hand in his.
âBore me? I doubt you could. If itâs not boring for you to talk about then itâs not boring for me to listen to,â Which was true, anything new she could learn (especially from someone she liked) was a pleasure to hear.

âRolling my eyes? Oh dear, are they not in place?â Rueâs eyes rolled back around though still void of any emotion or life. Ingrid was on her last stitch and if the little brat thought they were going to get away with it they had another thing coming at them. Rue hasnât caused the nightmares ( though she knew who could have ) But was very glad someone had shown Ingrid a âgoodâ time. Rue looked down at the shoulder Ingrid had pushed and sighed heavily, rolling up her sleeves to reveal the arm coming off at the seam, she began pulling at the string and when the arm was halfway tightened she looked up and eyed Ingrid carefully. Rue stepped forward without stopping, intent on cornering them while still fiddling with the string, âNow look what youâve done. Listen to me and listen good because I will not repeat myself. I do not do nightmares, not only are they below me but I prefer to work in the very very real world. I prefer to work in a world where people like you exist. Because, doll, people like you are the funnest to scare. What was the fiasco about last time? A spider? Snake? Or a cry? I canât remember exactly, all of you average humans tend to blend together in one great ball of fears to play around with. But I digress, if you ever, and I mean ever, set another hand on me I will make sure every fearful force I find is set on you. You think nightmares are bad? You havenât seen anything.â
The fact that Rue knew Ingridâs fears could be set off by something as small as a infant crying - that couldnât have been said innocently. She knew. There was no one else with the ability to know that, so as much as Rue excused herself and claimed innocence, no way was Rue getting away with terrifying Ingrid any more.
âListen here, half-pint, I saw scarier shit than you before I was 3, thereâs nothing you can show me that I havenât had shoved in my face before,â Honestly, Ingrid was a little offended that Rue thought they couldnât handle anything. Ingrid could handle whatever the hell the world wanted to throw at them, watch them, âI donât care about your stupid arm, I donât care how much you think you care scare me,â Ingrid leaned in closer with an intensity in their eyes, lowering their voice for once for the sake of secrecy, âI donât want to be shoved back into that closet, Rue. You canât do that to me.â
Rue looked down at Ingrid and raised an eyebrow before taking a step back for personal space. They was right, her naming off the fears wasnât innocent at all. Rue did hate when someone panicked because of fears. But she was guessing this was Fernâs work and was definitely not her own so she didnât feel anything about it. She squared her shoulders and stared unblinkingly at Ingrid, âIf you please,â She sighed and cocked her head to the side, âI only sense fears, not how well someone can handle them. Maybe itâs the lack of feeling, maybe itâs the fact that half of the time I do not care.â
That was true, Rue cared about how she scared when she liked the person, and Ingrid wasnât someone she liked,âIâll say this again, I donât do nightmares. I physically can not produce a nightmare,â She plucked a spider from Ingridâs shoulder before throwing it over her shoulder and it disappearing,âI do physical. You feeling backed up in a closet is not my problem, though never my intention unless you should be deemed...deserving.â
asktheprincessofhalloweenâ:
Rue nodded at him, not even noticing the name change at first, âAuradon will be Auradon, glad to hear there are people who appreciate the best holiday ever created. People here have the wrong idea about being frightened then, they should realize that itâs n-âŠSue? We. Have. Been. Through. This. Rue. My name is Rue,â Her tone was gradually building up to being more and more peeved off and thoughts of dismembering her own arm to smack him sounded like good idea, âDonât do it again.â
 He wouldâve smirked at her sudden shift in tone but he knew if he showed anything, sheâd be more agitated. So he just looks at her with a blank expression on his face and crosses his arms. âWhatever you say, Glue.â Really at this point heâs just asking for it, but itâs not like she couldnât play along and call him by the wrong name either. Fern does it. âSet up a Halloween appreciation club then or something. Educate the masses.â
Rue didnât care to try and get his name wrong, she knew that River was playing at something. If he wanted to play, fine, Rue could play along just as well if not better. Of course she had to read into his fears now, she talked slowly as she shifted,âI donât think a Halloween Appreciation Club would be well appreciated, am I right?â Of course she was right, and right about now River would be seeing visions of himself losing...what? Control...over himself. Rueâs mind wandered further, what was he so afraid of losing control over? Bringing a fear in it and making a person live it didnât always require Rue to know what was going on, so long as they were afraid of something, âPersonally I just want people to acknowledge a holiday correctly or not acknowledge it at all,â
âChristmas in July is comingâŠare people serious about that? Why not Halloween in April then? Why would anyone want to celebrate Christmas more than once a year?â
âI simply canât understand why another Christmas is necessary. Especially right before holidays begin to start, and in the complete wrong season for another Christmas. I thought Sandy Claws would be busy getting ready for this holiday rather than hosting another one.â
âThing is I donât even know if heâs over this. It seems to be completly...them. The people who are perpetrating this seem to be the ones with no care for the oncoming holidays. I wonder how the governor of Independence Town feels, or if he even knows about this!â
âChristmas in July is comingâŠare people serious about that? Why not Halloween in April then? Why would anyone want to celebrate Christmas more than once a year?â
âReally? Thatâs my view as well, why does Christmas get two chances while every other holiday gets the alloted one? Youâre correct, unfortunately.â He had to agree with his sister on her last point, why was Halloween and every other holiday constantly overlooked?
âWell good, I donât know what Iâd do if you felt differently. I mean really, Sandy Claws doesnât need the extra time. Ghouls know heâs already taken up enough time at the end of the year. Why push this now? We have other holidays coming up without this being screamed at us.

Rue lifted her arm from the table, giving Peggy a disgusted look and rolling her eyes,âOh, no, no, I wouldnât have known your name. Who cares how much you sneeze or how hard it is for you to reach the top shelf? Maybe if they had The Most Annoying as an option I would have voted for you. Peggy just sounds annoying.â
Peggy frowned, positively fuming. This wasnât the first time sheâd been called annoying, and definitely would not be the last. She hated being told that though, or being treated like a kid when she was upset, âWhen you get all bent outta shape cus they didnât put the right fireworks in the pumpkins under the Christmas tree, would you wanna be called annoying?â Peggy had very little concept of Auradon holidays, but her point still stood, she thought.
Rue stiffened straight as a coffin, the fireworks in the what under the what?! She really couldnât believe what she was hearing, this girl obviously suffered from some type of delusions, âFirst off, thatâs definitely not how any of that works. Do you want to add âMost Easily Frightenedâ to your handy list? I could try a few things to test it out. The annoying do go rather easy.â
@askthefutureemperor
âWell I was thinking of going to a Teahouse if that was okay with you. I know you wanted to learn more about my culture so I was thinking we could start by taking you to one.â Hyson said kinda shyly feeling a little stupid at the thought.
Rue smiled sweetly at him, meaning it and getting just a little visibly excited but everything was stated very matter-of-factly,âI think that going to a teahouse with you sounds lovely. I do figure that if Iâm familiar with the holidays...I should be familiar with the outside culture. I especially want to go because I enjoy spending time with you.â
âFern have you been sending nightmares out into the school? Some human came up to me blaming me for them. What was her name...Iris? Whatever it was she is mad. Good job, canât say Iâve ever done well with nightmares and she looked positively sleep deprived. I hope she earned it?â - Rue

âWhich one is Christmas..? Halloween is the one with the free candy right? Iâm still not sure which of these holidays is which.â
âChristmas is the one with...you donât know holidays?â Maybe the girl was too young...no. Maybe she was just from somewhere else,âChristmas is the one with Sand-...Santa Claus. Free gifts. Joy through the land. Snow...any of that ring a bell?â

âScared? I hope so. Being frightened is supposed to be fun, like Halloween. Unless, of course, you deserve it. Children crying at night isnât my goal, panicking annoys me to no end, so no thank you. I want an appreciation for Halloween. I donât need it to be someoneâs favorite, but for them to acknowledge it well.â
âPeople here donât exactly correlate being frightened with fun. So I think you need a different tactic for them to even acknowledge it the slightest bit. If it makes you feel any better, Halloween is actually my favourite holiday. But I suppose thatâs hardly surprising given what youâve already heard about me. Anyway, what Iâm trying to say is, if you want people to acknowledge your holiday then you have to give them a better reason to, Sue.â
