oh jeez it's been a while. yeah, please post your favorites from your notes, if not everything!
I think the big favorite one was the. Obvious question I just straight up never answered; how the fuck did he get those scars
The reason I never answered it was because I had this far too elaborate, ambitious monster of a contextual story behind it that I kept writing and rewriting and was never quite happy with. Ultimately in hindsight it relied way too much on headcanon, especially for a fairly shortform format like askblogging.
Long story short, the way I intended to frame it:
The first scar he got was as a child, the horizontal one, which he received from Blackray, his mentor, when his lusus was culled and he was recruited into the orphaners. This kicked off a contentious relationship with this old hardass who was a harsh taskmaster and a very fierce believer that any sort of kindness was a waste of time.
I think a few bits and pieces of this did make it into the blog archives ultimately. Blackray was introduced as having culled seahorsedad. Dualscar expressed at some point that he didn't see the point to people resenting him for doing his job, which was required for the continued survival of the species, because that's the sort of attitude he was raised with.
Then the second scar would have come much later, following the events I was beginning to set up here. Blackray would have gone on to become radicalized by the Signless' teachings and try to make his old student see the errors in their ways the way he was learning to.
Dualscar, at this time under a different Adult Troll Eight Letter Name that. I probably have here somewhere but absolutely cannot remember for the life of me, did not take this well. The man who taught him to be a violent murderer through cruelty and violence now trying to lecture him that cruelty and violence is wrong? Fuck that shit. He would have lured Blackray into a trap. Blackray would have realized this near the end, and attacked him in betrayed anger.
Like I said, it kind of grew disproportionate to the medium, and relied a lot on my headcanon Orphaner hierarchy and their position in society, but I remember having a lot of fun plotting it out. It was meant to sort of bookend that, like every other Ampora in the series, he was offered an opportunity to not be a giant asshole under circumstances there was no chance he was going to accept, due to personal pride and messed up personal beliefs.
Beyond that from the top of my head I think one of my favorite headcanons was that Orphaner ships are crewed by people who are condemned to a slow painful death, because the proximity to glubglub would just have slowly fried them.
Related to that; Dualscar would have been able to withstand the psychic pressure for a long time due to his purple blood, but he definitely wasn't unaffected, and Orphaners would live statistically very short lives for their caste because of it.
