“hey, are you going to that bonfire thing tonight?” there was a somber curiousness about her voice; like she was searching for a reason to live among beer-happy students who looked like movies to her now  — now that she’s lost everything. it’s definitely notable how everything seems to fall away when tragedy hits. so many things just don’t seem to matter anymore.

“i’m being forced to go by caroline forbes. i was hoping i wouldn’t be the only debby downer picking marshmallows from between my teeth..?” said with a twinge of hopefulness. hoping a desperate ridden smile would convince him if he wasn’t already attending.

         “i  wasn’t  really  thinking  about  it...”  a  pause,  about  to  ask  her  why.  but,  brunette  girl  continues  for   him  and  beck  listens.  he  soon  realizes  he  can  relate  with  her  feelings  about  high  school  gatherings  --  parties  --  excuses  to  act  really  stupid,  whatever  one  may  want  to  call  it.  kinda  weird  to  find  someone  else  their  age  who  just  isn’t  interested  in  them,  though.  secretly,  he’s  got  a  hatred  towards  beer  that  embeds  deep  at  just  the  stench  alone.  can’t  let  anyone  know or  he’d  look  like  a  boring  nerd,  sadly  that’s  just  how  high  school  is.  it  also  might  make  him  seem  vulnerable.  

         he’s  seen  what  alcohol  can  turn  people  into  though.  it  can  make  fathers  into intoxicated  monsters  and  make  childhood...  not  so  pleasant.  he  knows  a  lot  about  that,  little  traumatized  by  it  is  an  understatement.  and  he  would  never  want  to  be  like  him--  his  father.  a  good  reason  parties  are  just  really  stupid  to  him.  clearly  it’s  not  something  fun  if  you  hate  everything  about  alcohol.  however,  he  can  make  an  exception.  “buttt  if  there’ll  be  chocolate  with  those  marshmallows,  i  will  reconsider.  i  really  like s’mores.”  punctuating  sentence  with  a  smile,  it  means  he’ll  come  with  her  regardless.  course  he  won’t  make  her  go  alone.  “i  know  how  much  it  sucks  when  someone’s  pushing  you  into  something  you  don’t  wanna  do.”

               “maybe  you  wouldn’t  have  to  if  you  weren’t  so  ridiculous?”  learn  to  live  without  him,  that  is.  and  okay,  maybe  that’s  not  really  the  greatest  thing  he  could’ve  said.  but  he  can’t  help  it,  he’s  still  deep  down  angry  at  her  for  the  way  she  is.  “is  it  really  that  hard?  you  made  it  seem  like  it  was  pretty  easy  considering  how  easy  you  were  done  with  me  not  too  long  ago.”
