“I have learned that it is best to just bite the bullet and see if it works out.” He paused. “What is that phrase again? Better to ask forgiveness than permission, or something.”
“Bite the bullet.” Aspen repeat the phrase, feeling it dance over their tongue. “Yeah. I like that theory. Grit it down, right? Like... just do it and figure out the rest later.” They held out their hand in a greeting offering. “Aspen Marks. DJ and evidently attempted philosopher.”

“I thought it was quite good, if I’m being honest.” Alexei shrugged, smiling at Aspen with no hint of hesitation. “I rather enjoyed myself.”
Aspen tucked their head briefly before he glanced back up, somewhat pleased. They had to admit, they weren’t the best at small talk, but they were appreciative of the compliments and the ego boost. “I was trying out some new stuff. Always scary, you know?”

“Well you shouldn’t be so shy, it sounded great.” She told the other, having been there but also hearing others discuss it that morning.
“Thanks.” Aspen wasn’t good at accepting compliments, but at least they knew it. They scratched the back of their neck, fingers digging in slightly, nails tickling. “I’m glad you were there.”

“It was good. I mean, I liked what I heard. I’m not one of those people that read too much into the music and I just like what heard last night. Good job.”
“Thank you.” Aspen tucked their chin a bit, a flush rising to their cheeks. “I’m so not good at taking compliments.” They knew it was all part of the deal... people would come, hear their music, enjoy it, but... there was still that little voice in the back of their head that continually poked at them, saying, Give it up before you peak.

“Mind using these?” Andy plugs in another pair of headphones into his system. “You can sit and listen, if you don’t mind. I don’t want to disturb anyone with the sudden music.”
“I don’t mind at all.” Aspan snagged the headphones proffered, and slipped them over their ears. “I mean... I think music is meant to be disturbing, or at least jarring, but I mean... I get the need not to be obtrusive.”

“Roland DJ-808.” Justin answers his question with a smile on his face. “I’m Justin and it’s nice to meet another DJ here. Did you want to listen with me for a bit?”
“Yeah, hell yeah.” Aspen’s face lit up as they took a step back, making a little motion for the other DJ to continue. “I’m always looking for more inspiration. And that’s hella good equipment.”
It was with a somewhat nervous glance that Aspen lowered his eyes before darting them back up again. “Yeah, that was me last night. I’m sort of... trying out some new stuff.” The DJ was never entirely comfortable talking about themselves, but they tried not to shy away from recognition in and of itself.
“Well, that one is new.” the wolf commented on, seeing a woman laid on on a couch in the hotel lobby, furiously shoving a toilet brush in and out of herself.
"Yeah,” Aspen agreed, canting their head for a better look. “Honestly, I’m amazed at her commitment. That can’t be comfortable.”

Even though his shift doesn’t start for another few hours, Justin sat alone at a table in the lounge area while he experiments with some new equipment. He keeps the headphones on to keep from disturbing the guests and other staff, but he still notices someone approachin him from his peripheral vision and regards them without looking at them just yet. “I’m sorry if this is in the way, but I’ll move it all soon.”
“What kind of controller is that?” Aspen approached the man, making a motion to the equipment. “This is badass. Seriously, no need to move it.” Aspen grinned, their eyes alight, hand extending. “I’m Aspen. Fellow DJ and music slut, and I am super into what you’re doing right now.”
