this girl was showing all the signs of being a secret mermaid so i pushed her into the pool and she turned into a forty foot long mosasaurus which is tbh way cooler
not really sure how to get her out though
for those of you asking why i pushed her into the pool in the first place: i work for a duplicitous small town aquarium and i'm trying to kidnap mermaids to jump through hoops and shit to entertain tourists and make money. fucking obviously. now that i know she's actually a mosasaurus though i Have fallen in pure-hearted love with her
i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g

This is always how I imagined Ronan from the Raven Boys before I saw others peoples interpretations.
This was charcoal on paper (specifically my calc notes).
raven girls again they're all that matter

it’s amazing how women are able to navigate crowded rooms without ever touching a palm to a man’s lower back
The thing about art is that it makes you a million times happier when you move past the instinct of feeling jealous and even bitter oven someone else's "talent" at something you can't do and instead move towards appreciating the skill and hard work that went into it and even feeling inspired to try to learn how to do it yourself.
I struggled a lot with jealousy over other Native people knowing things like beadwork and quillwork and weaving, traditional arts that I wanted to know already but felt like I had no right to because I'm not enrolled and because I don't live near teachers, but I have finally reached the point where even if there's still some jealousy when I see other people's work, I mostly feel a lot of admiration and eagerness to learn how to do those things myself. A lot of that also came down to realizing that so many other Native people also don't have access to teachers, also grew up disconnected or with family that lost their practices at some point, and many of the most skilled beaders and weavers and painters and other Native artists I've encountered are self-taught using the resources they had access to. It's a good reminder that we all have to start somewhere and sometimes that "somewhere" is youtube videos and library books.
Also important to remember that talent. . . isn't really a thing. You can have natural traits that make certain things a bit easier for you, but at the end of the day, those traits only matter if you put in the time and effort to foster them and build up skills with them AND those natural traits aren't necessary to do things like sing, paint, dance, swim, sew, etc.
Whenever you see someone do something difficult in a way that makes it look incredibly easy for them, remember that that ease is likely the result of years if not decades of hard work and practice and a lot of mistakes. Society's obsession with "natural talent" not only discourages people from learning new skills if they aren't perfect immediately, it also undermines all the work that those "talented" people have put into building up their skills.
