Isayama hurts me
An explanation as to why I haven't been on tumblr lately followed by a short summary of my reaction to the ending of Tokyo Ghoul
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey..........so this is the first time I've posted anything in like 3 weeks or so.
Yeah.......*cough*
So this semester I've been having to deal with six classes and although I'm not working on school work all the time like some kind of paranoid nerd I have been really preoccupied by it.
And honestly....I've been viewing tumblr as more of a chore and something I need to work on rather than a place I can relax lately. I mean you gotta admit my blog is a hot mess. I need a new theme and everything. And at the moment I lack the mental determination to do so when I basically have a test or a paper right around every corner. Granted, I probably should set-up a que or whatever soon...and I probably will at some point. But really I'm just pooped and I don't get that same relaxing feeling that I get from here like I used to. To all of my online friends, I am TERRIBLY SO INCREDIBLY SORRY I AM SUCH A JERK FACE FORGIVE ME ALL!
If you want a better way to stay in contact with me then send me a message and I'll happily add you on facebook or give you my email as I check those a lot more frequently than here now.
At any rate, I'm not done with tumblr, but at the same time I'm definitely not using it as much as I'd like to. So expect some posts here or there, a que maybe, but nothing substantial until like Christmas break or something. I apologize for everything...and honestly I dunno how I still have so many followers. You all rock and whatnot!
So yeah.....that's basically it.....forgive me?
And now....for the other thing I promised!
Tokyo Ghoul ended....apparently.
And....I gotta say....dunno what the fan reactions are to this ending....but I loved it.
*Spoilers*
So...this manga ended in a way I've never seen any story ended before....and in a way that I've wondered how it would be like anyone did end a story like this.
It basically ended with the main protagonist dead but the story still was happening.
Take for instance so many other endings to anime like Cowboy Bebop or FMA. Cowboy Bebop's story was over when Spike died, and FMA's story was over once the brothers achieved their goal. Sure you can say that the world never truly stopped going, but really did you care to know any more after the ending? You got a complete story.
But with Tokyo Ghoul...you didn't get that.
Kaneki died, and there are still questions in the world that need to be answered. Will there be a huge war between Aogiri Tree and the Doves? Why is Owl keeping her dad alive? Why is Rize still around? All of these things are still going on in the world, but it ends when we realize Kaneki is gone for good. It stops right then and there leaving us closing the book on a world that still has plenty of story to tell.
...and honestly that's brilliant.
To really grasp it you have to think back to the ending of the first chapter.
This is basically stating right here that the story you're reading doesn't have a happy end.
Kaneki was never destined to succeed or solve the mystery or get the girl. No, it was one shitty hand after another that eventually drove him into madness and made him realize that he only had himself to blame for his suffering.
This is how you experiment with form. This is how you create a new way to tell a story. You create this amazing character that you root for and love in a story that is massive and full of complexities...and then realistically and slightly brutally you end the character and the story when there's still more to tell. I normally don't go for open endings, but this one just did a really well done job of changing the method of telling a story.
All this being said, I am well aware of Tokyo Ghoul:re (which is ok so far) but I'm looking at just Tokyo Ghoul as a whole by itself. The story of Ken Kaneki and how well told it was from beginning to end.
God bless you, Tokyo Ghoul.
Bless you for not fucking things up on your 62nd installment like Attack on Titan.
