Summer 2026 Event: Reverse Bang

Hi everyone! For the event this summer, I want to try to run a reverse bang. The way the event will work is that artists will create a sketch, writers will be paired with that artist, and the final event will be a finished piece of art with a short story based on that sketch.

Event Schedule:

Artist can start working now

9 June - Form opens for artists to submit sketches and a short blurb.

22 June - Artist's form closes. I'll put together a presentation of sketches and blurbs.

26 June - Writer's form opens - sign up and rank your choice of sketches.

3 July - Matches sent out

10 July - Artists and writers must have contacted each other and discussed the work. I will check in to confirm.

14-21 Aug - Posting week! All works should be posted no earlier than 14 Aug, and no later than 21 Aug.

Guidelines:

Final art must include clean lines and recognizable characters (either to the show or the books). Backgrounds and full rendering not necessary. If you are doing traditional art, please provide high-quality scans or photos.

Fic must be between 2000 and 7000 words.

You may submit multiple pieces of art, or sign up for multiple fics! You will also be able to sign up as a pitch-hitter.

Both artists and writers, respect each other's Do Not Wants and spoilers. Fic and art should not require familiarity with other fanworks.

Do not publicly post any part of your art or fic before the posting date.

If you need to drop out for any reason, or if there is any kind of conflict, let me know as soon as you can! If a writer drops out, I will try to set their artist up with a pitch-hitter.

All participants must have a tumblr account. Final works must be posted on tumblr and tagged #wheel of time reverse bang.

you know what'd be more interesting? if instead of graendal killing him out of nowhere, asmodean was taken to serve moridin along with moghedien and cyndane. imagine him beginning his reassurances that he still serves the great lord of the dark only to realise that he doesn't, anymore, not really, but he couldn't admit it to himself when he was with rand. imagine asmodean trying to hide his true loyalties while his actual soul is literally in moridin's hands. and then, later, being torn between wanting to get back and staying and becoming an agent of the light among the forsaken. he could succeed or he could be found out and die without changing anything, but what a character arc we never got

Yes! Usually my AUs involve Asmodean sticking around with Rand or going off to the Black Tower, but this is a really interesting scenario if the ending of TFoH still happened (but in a slightly different way)!! And it 100% would have been so much more satisfying than what we got.

A “what if Asmo didn’t let the guy he saw clinging to the cliff fall to his death” kind of scenario. Everything taken directly from this wonderful fic (except for Devran’s appearance, who admittedly looks like a human porky pig :P):

(As a side note, I think it would slightly change the nuance of the metaphor, since,  instead of Asmodean using it to laugh at himself for being so desperate that he’d even cling to a doomed cause, it would imply that he’s hoping there’s a slim chance that someone might help him up the way he did back then, even if it was merely a whim. Hmmmmmmmm :/)

I think Asmodean has a need to be taken seriously. Hence the impeccable outfits and aloofness and imitation of grandeur. He is incredibly arrogant. And he sees not getting involved or invested in anything as evidence of some sort of class. That’s why it hit him so hard when he was debased so thoroughly, getting dragged through the mud. Everyone else knew he was a ridiculous man, but he didn’t want to see it. But my favorite part is that he didn’t stop having his conceits and preoccupations even after being defeated. He just carved out a new sense of status for himself to cling to. He just switched to everything being dragon themed, and called himself court bard, because being close to the dragon reborn was his new prestige. Never mind that he wasn’t even committed to the Light beyond his own self interest at the moment. He had an opportunity to appear above everyone else and he wasn’t going to let it go.

I love how Asmodean is such a shit teacher. He has no idea how to explain anything to Rand. He's like "If you don't know your alphabet, that's not on me. I'm not a kindergarten teacher." Absolute icon.
