For This Was Home, only two more people kick the bucket before our final chapter, so we are wrapping up! Although I might add another to that list if I feel like it!
I also have a one-shot for Jimmy planned and halfway written!
And for other WIPs, I have my Hadestown Ethubs fic, I'd recommend checking that out if you haven't yet!
I have quite a few unpublished WIPs like A Flower Husbands Beauty and The Beast au I started weeks ago that I picked back up, but I have to wait until a certain poetry book I ordered to arrive before I add the finishing touches!
I have an Etho&Gem fic in the works for Bury The Dead Where They're Found
But! I'm also trying to pace myself so I don't get burnt out again! It'll be a big year for me with fic though! So keep an eye out!

Breaking from containment to tell people who are worried about Kosa to stop spreading misinformation that causes people to panic
I have read over the bill and here what I can tell you that I haven't seen anyone say here:
The official bill is where you should be getting your information, not some tumblr/twitter post, or website that doesn't cite anything
Anything that gets passed is legal, even if it harms people in the long run it is legal even if there was an act passed before that prevents anything here, unless the previously mentioned bill is still active and running everything they are doing is legal (So, take that as you will)
Unless you educate yourself you are not allowed to be active in pushing against any cause. Educate yourselves instead of falling prey to and speaking misinformation)

From this point forward, everything will be what I paraphrase from the official draft, a link to the bill will be provided at the end, along with my own opinion on KOSA. any notes I have will be in red
They want to hide away stuff that could provoke harmful ideas, such as pro-ED blogs, stuff that could cause children anxiety, drugs, violence (physical and sexual), financial decisions, and patterns the child may have that gets them too addicted to their devices
The bill will NOT affect your ability to post any of the aforementioned stuff, it will put in place a child filter that will be toggleable.
If a covered platform knows a person is a minor they will be required to include the following:
1. Limit the ability for others to communicate with the minor 2. Prevent other users from viewing the minor's personal data, restricting access to personal data 3. Limit features that would get the minor addicted to the covered platform/media 4. Controlling what the minor views in ether (a) Opting out of personalized recommendation systems that collect data on what you like (Think like Pinterest or tumble) or (b) limit the categories for these personalized recommendation systems 5. restrict the ability to track and locate the minor's location
The platform will provide an easily accessible way to delete accounts, personal data collected from and/or shared by the minor Or limit the time spent on the platform
They want parents to be involved, platforms should include parental controls that are at the ready and easy to use to best support their children and monitor what they see
Now, parental controls are nothing new, I have parental controls on my phone, and some of you guys have parental controls on your devices. KOSA will require platforms to have parental controls to help monitor children on their devices Which, can be used by parents to keep them viewing content to further any bigoted behavior. Obviously, that isn't helpful to anyone if they make it impossible for their children to be educated on basic human decency, especially in southern states where history classes are filled to the brim with racist and homophobic propaganda.
"(2)Â REQUIREMENTS.âThe parental tools provided by a covered platform shall includeâ
(A) the ability to manage a minorâs privacy and account settings, including the safeguards and options established under subsection (a), in a manner that allows parents toâ
(i) view the privacy and account settings; and
(ii) in the case of a user that the platform knows is a child, change and control the privacy and account settings;
(B) the ability to restrict purchases and financial transactions by the minor, where applicable; and
(C) the ability to view metrics of total time spent on the platform and restrict time spent on the covered platform by the minor."
the basic rundown is: Parents will be able to view and control privacy settings, restrict financial choices, and screentime Nowhere in here does it say parents can view messages, just that parents will be able to control whether the child's account is public or private. Obviously, this is just a draft, and things are bound to change again, but I doubt they'll be able to see messages
but also: stuff like this already exists, my sister had a parental control app on her phone where her texts would be sent to our mother, stuff like this is not new. it's been here, it's been easily accessible, it's been ready to use.
This isn't even half of the bill, and I encourage anyone who is worried to dig deeper and read the official document (You have to scroll pass all the crossed-out text to find the second draft)

Now, I don't like KOSA because it will make it a lot more difficult to find information for children under the care of conservative parents, especially for LGBTQ+ children, and y'know maybe we shouldn't?
