today I found out my mother doesnāt know what dandelions are and now Iām wondering what other strange secrets sheās been quietly harboring
Where do you live that you donāt have dandelions?
we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation
So after extensive interrogation I have an update:
my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.
the truth is actually weirder
sheās aware dandelions look like this
she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions
she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?
she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.
gosh I enjoy this website
For comparison, this is a daffodil
See, folks in the southern US will tell you up and down those are buttercups, actually.
i donāt think so? iām southern and buttercups are what we call these things (much tinier)
Wait I thought those bigger cup ones were Easter Lillies???
This is an Easter Lily. It is an actual lily and therefore deadly to cats.
Theyāre marigolds and I know a bitch when I see one!
This is a marigold:
ā¦.we need to start taking the phrase āgo touch grassā more literally. go outside and examine a flower i beg u
In the UK these are also Marigolds, but I donāt think anyone is going to confuse them for any of the flowers in the above thread

Fun fact! Saint Valentine was beheaded, and here is a photo of his supposed skull! (which is kept in a reliquary in rome because catholics are freaky that way)
I can never ever leave this website actually
I see a reference to the Sedlic Ossuary, love the decor in that place.
this is a church that supposedly had holy ground or something that let people rot really fast, Idk what thatās about, but people really wanted to get buried there, and so they had overflow of dead people. so they exhumed old bodies and stored the bones in the church, before someone eventually saidĀ āhey, this would make a cool fucking chandelier.ā and then they started using the bones to decorate. this continued for several generations.
Looks like heās sharing space with a bit of St. Patienta...maybe these are catacomb saints
I love the Sedlec Ossuary
what happened was, some dude from that town (itās in the Czech Republic) went to the Holy Land in 1278 and brought back some dirt. he spread it in the churchyard, and then EVERYONE wanted to be buried there. because Super Extra Holy(TM). eventually they ran out of room, so they started exhuming old bodies and storing the bones aboveground instead. thatās what an ossuary is, so you have a Fun Vocab Word for the day
in 1870, the church leaders were likeĀ āthese bones are kind of disorganized and just collecting dust. can anyone stack them better?ā
and one FrantiÅ”ek Rint, woodcarver and apparent prior incarnation of Guillermo del Toro, said,Ā āMY TIME HAS COMEā
and he. did that.
he also signed it
the church leaders must have been okay with it, because I imagine he ran the plans by them and also they didnāt immediately burn the place to the ground. but I still like to picture them looking over the initial sketches with Rint watching, and roughly these expressions on their respective faces:
(Panel from the Oglaf Comics strip, āLabyrinth.ā)
and on that note, happy valentine's!
i lose 80% of respect for a movie the moment a female protagonist wakes up in bed with artfully tousled hair and a full face of unsmudged makeup what is that mcfuckery
The Barbie movie will be the only exception
barbie doesn't wear makeup those are tattoos
Those are her chromatophores, how dare you.
we don't talk about barbie's chromatophores stop blowing her cover
"#why is barbie a cephalapod" hard outer shell, jointed inflexible limbs, capable only of sharp scuttling movements, what more do you want from me
it turns out i do NOT know the definition of a cephalopod, this is the most humiliated I've ever been in my existence thus far. and i went to MIDDLE SCHOOL so that's a doozy
i should be cracked open on a catherine wheel and rotated through the streets
