Stop rebloggling that one post I am sick of it and everyone is commenting that Oscar Wilde was a pedophile and tbh I can’t deal with this shit. Like that is the tricky thing with the narrative about gay people being predators bc I take it way too personal to be able to discuss it in a level headed way. Like I’ve felt like an evil predator all my life for being different and I’ve been made to feel that way by people in my life bc they didn’t approve of me being different and I’m not allowed to see my little brother bc my dad probably thinks I’m going to turn him queer like me so like god idk what to say about Oscar Wilde and the nasty reasons he has been portrayed (especially in older biographies) as an older man preying on boys bc like sure it is important to point out that Oscar Wilde was a little ass but also mmmmmmm do you not see that the reason you draw the conclusion someone is a pedophile for having relationships with younger men when like literally every other man in his days had sex with women the same age or younger??? is that you have been spoon fed the narrative about gay love being by default disgusting and predatory? Like if you want to call out Oscar Wilde will you please keep everyone else to the same standards? I’m just too tired for this shit and it’s not like I would change anyone’s mind so I better not even say anything

Oscar Wilde’s Lipstick-Covered Tomb | Via

The practice started in the late 1990s, when somebody decided to leave a lipstick kiss on the tomb. Since then lipstick kisses and hearts have been joined by a rash of red graffiti containing expressions of love, such as: “Wilde child we remember you”, “Keep looking at the stars” and “Real beauty ends where intellect begins”. Kissing Oscar’s tomb on the Paris tourist circuit has become a cult pastime.

A fine of €9,000 ($12,000) was imposed on anyone caught kissing or damaging the historical monument, but it had no effect. It was hard to catch people in the act, and most culprits were tourists who were long gone before the police could bring them to court. Appeals from Wilde’s grandson Merlin Holland to stop the practice also fell on deaf ears. A plaque asking fans to respect the tomb instead of defacing it went in vain.

Meanwhile, those greasy red lipstick stains seeped into the stone making it harder and harder to clean. Every cleaning eroded a layer of stone rendering it even more porous, so the next cleaning had to go even deeper and wear away the stone even more.
