" tatooine is a place anakin has tried to put behind him, forget near everything about, so when he heard senator amidala would hide from her would-be assassins there, it punched through his otherwise blooming excitement at seeing padme again. he tried to point out that tatooine may not be the place an assassin would think to look for her, but that didn't make it safe; padme would be leaving one battlefield and entering another. apparently anakin's presence negated that threat, since he was so familiar with his birth planet.

( he hadn't been born on tatooine, but he only muttered this under his breath once his concerns were dismissed and the debriefing was over )

being back on this sand waste was making him testy but he's trying to be the responsible, venerable jedi who was above such things. " just. please don't wander beyond the boundaries, my lady. everything here would love to kill you and, besides, there's nothing to see. trust me, it's all just sand. "

"On my planet," she mused looking over the vast desert as she spoke, "Only the very rich could live in a place this. Is that spice? On the air?" Naboo had spice, too, but it had dissolved into the water and could only be extracted through the salt. Kessel, as far as she was aware, remained a hot bed for spice and other such ores.

Spice, despite its adapted and altered form, was also how her people got rich off of the many varieties of gems and jewels. What the rest of the Known Universe didn't know was that it was just how the fish adapted to the salt and spice in the water. Their dried scales and skins were valuable. they turned into gemstones when the salt and water was separated and dried out of them.

Gold was even more precious on her planet now, especially since she had made peace with the Gungans. Their skins were the most valuable of all.

"I read that there is a lot of mining here. Even for water." She looked wide eyed for a moment, as if childish curiosity had taken over. "How do you mine water? is it like the door seals you showed me?"

" no, " he says, a breathless blurt, unable to comprehend a word like ridiculous being applied to padme. " i -- i don't think you could ever be ridiculous, my lady. " she's so still, like one of the drawings he's rendered of her in his journals, but there's life in her cheeks, light in her eye, that no drawing could hope to replicate. not even his dreams did it -- her -- justice. she, padme ! she's in front of him for the first time in ten years ! if he was still nine, he would've run up and hugged her. even now, his muscles twitch in the urge to break the distance between them. but he's a jedi padawan, not a kid, and he will follow the proper protocols and propriety and prove that obi-wan had no right to be so nettling and doubtful !

.... but she did recognize him, right? surely she had to? if not by appearance -- because ten years is a long time, and he knows he's changed much in that time -- surely she was told which jedis were protecting her and could deduce that he's obviously not obi-wan? maybe she wants to avoid it for now out of some sense of respect for his new position ? which was .... honestly a hurtful thought, because he thought padme had liked him more than that, even if her respecting his status as a jedi first was nice. should he say something?

no, anakin decides, he'll wait for padme to approach the subject. does he really want her associating him with that dirty, starved, sun-burned, sand mite-invested kid anyway?

he steps further into the closet and closer to her. " but, um, are you looking for something in particular? maybe i can help...." the sooner she's packed, the sooner they can get her safety ... because someone is trying to kill her, of course she isn't going to focus on their past. get it together skywalker ---

"I'm afraid I'll stand out. Everything was made on Naboo." Her clothes held the vivid colors, the fine needle work, and even the salt water jewels her planet was known for was present on her wardrobe. Still, they were a status symbol as much as they were a target. She felt silly for thinking of them so carefully, but she remembered a time when she did not have such opulence.

She needed something practical, but nothing seemed to fit that anymore. "What would you take?" she asked looking at the other. Silly question, of course, the Jedi order probably wasn't as materialistic. But it certainly would help if she had some input.

She looked the young man over as he stepped closer. She looked at the color of his hair, and the deep nature of his eyes. She even watched the way his lip curved as he talked. "...Ani?" she asked quietly.

Ani was still a little boy in her mind. It was hard to think that he may have grown up, "I'm sorry." she said with her refined air, a little more in control of her thoughts, "You looked like someone I knew once."

She had sat with a marble sort of stillness as it was decided around her what was to be done about the assassin. She was not the only Senator to be so targeted, and the growing threat of what her Prophets and Mystas declared a violation and abomination towards Shriaya's holy light was only growing. How many other people within the Senate had already been replaced? Even now, regulations regarding clones were still limited and stuck within the law making process.

The Lady of The First Phase had made it a royal declaration to have Padme relocated for her safety. They had been trying to sway her to come home to Naboo, where they would see to her safety in Theed, but Padme had refused. She had reminded them of Va Ti's fire and what further harm could be brought into the holy courts if an offworld assassin came into them.

There was much of the hushed agreements and "of course, your eminence" as they resumed their prayer. Even off world, she was flanked by some form of Shriaya's religion and her devoted followers. the formation of the monarchy had stemmed from the growing popularity of this religion after all.

They still believed she was their god incarnate.

The Jedi and their services had been so thusly requested because they, too, held philosophies that in peace time, compared to Naboo's religion at it's core.

The rest had been left up to the Jedi to keep further secrecy. There was so much to be done. She still held herself in that stillness, internalizing what fear was growing.

She'd been in exile before, but now...

"I don't know what's important." she whispered, standing in her closet. She needed to take something with her... but it couldn't look as if she had fled. she looked over at the other in the doorway of the closet. Her new protector as she had overheard.

"You must think I'm being ridiculous."

RE; - THE BEGINNING OF THE CLONE WARS

Chagrian Senator Mas Amedda was elected into the Galactic Senate during the early formation of the Separatist movement  prior to the Clone Wars. His campaign marked a rather violent and anti-humanocentric  core-baiting stance. This was partially in response to the Core faction victories over the Rim factions call for  increased government assistance regarding colonization aide programs throughout the starscape. With a rise in cloning technology and a wider variety of humanocentric species within the  Senate, mass concern regarding the rights of non-human entities were put under scrutiny. It was widely know that cloning technology could only be successfully performed on humanocentric species as their genetic codes were easily copied and modified.  Chancellor Valorum tried to demonstrate his own concern about the threat of cloning technology by  setting up a loyalty program and set guidelines within the federal government regarding the regulation of clones. He also asked the Justice Department to  weigh in on rights and organizations for clones already within the system, as these biproducts were able to act without consequences at the order of their solicitors as they were not considered autonomous beings. As the midterm election year got underway, former State Department official Nix Card, suspected of espionage, was convicted of perjury and found to be a clone. Further investigation resulted in the cloning process having begun from already deceased genetic material with traceback to the buyer impossible by Kaminoan laws. Mas Amedda, in a speech to the entire Senate, mounted an attack on Valorum’s cloning policy by charging that his office harbored  “traitorous” clones, having replaced  the very real humanocentric species within the office. This would spark further debate regarding the regulation of the planet Kamino, eventually  colonizing its rule under the Republic to form the  Galactic Clone Army.

To my fellow Senators, tonight as we celebrate the nine hundredth year of The Great Peace, I would like to be able to talk about what a glorious day today is in the history of the Known Universe. As we celebrate the formation of a great government  who with it’s whole heart and soul hated war, I would like to be able to speak of peace in our time—of war being outlawed—and of world-wide disarmament. These would be truly appropriate things to be able to mention as we celebrate this momentous passage of time.  After all of these stable years after the greater calamites of conflict men’s hearts should anticipate a long peace—and men’s minds should be free from the heavy weight that comes with war. But this is not such a period—for this is not a period of peace. This is a time of “The Clone War”. This is a time when all the world is split into two vast, increasingly hostile armed camps—a time of a great autonomous race.  Today we can almost physically hear the mutterings and rumblings of an invigorated god of war.

You can see it, feel it, and hear it all the way from the Tatooine deserts, from the shores of Alderaan, right over into the very heart of Coruscant itself.  The one encouraging thing is that the “mad moment” has not yet arrived for the firing of the blaster or the exploding of the proton bomb which will set civilization about the final task of destroying itself. There is still a hope for peace if we finally decide that no longer can we safely blind our eyes and close our ears to those facts which are shaping up more and more clearly and that is that we are now engaged in a show-down fight . not the usual war between nations for land areas or other material gains, but a war between two diametrically opposed ideologies.  The great difference between our civilized learned world and the aboministic clone world is not political, gentlemen, it is moral. For instance, the Geonosian idea of confiscating the land and factories and running the entire economy as a single enterprise is momentous. Likewise, The Kaminoan’s invention of the one-party police state as a way to make the Geonisian’s idea work is hardly less momentous. Their resolute putting across of these two ideas, of course, did much to divide the Known Universe. With only these differences, however, The Core and the Rims could most certainly still live in peace.  The real, basic difference, however, lies in the religion of immoralism . . . invented by Geonosians, preached feverishly, and carried to unimaginable extremes by Kaminoans. This religion of immoralism, if the half of the universe triumphs—and well it may, Senators—this religion of immoralism will more deeply wound and damage the autonomous being more than any conceivable economic or political system.  The Kaminoans have dismissed the natural order of creation as a hoax, and then have added in clear-cut, unmistakable language their resolve that no nation, no people who believe in a natural order, can exist side by side with their Clone state. They have expelled people from their government and scienfic labs for mentioning such things as love, justice, or morality. They have called this “soulful ravings” and “sloppy sentimentality.” . Today we are engaged in a final, all-out battle between the non beings—the clones-- and true autnonmous beings. The modern champions of this strange science have selected this as the time, and senators, the chips are down—they are truly down.  Lest there be any doubt that the time has been chosen, let us go directly to the leader of these abominations. Here is what he said—, not before the war, not during the war—but 2 years after the last war was ended: “To think that biogentic reproductions and modifications of that genetic material can be carried out peacefully, within the framework of a democracy, means one has either gone out of one’s mind and lost all normal understanding, or has grossly and openly repudiated the scientific progress of such a revolution.” Senators, can there be anyone tonight who is so blind as to say that the war is not on? Can there by anyone who fails to realize that the Kaminoans has said the time is now? . . . that this is the time for the showdown between the democratic Republic world and the Clone world?  Unless we face this fact, we shall pay the price that must be paid by those who wait too long.  

As one of our outstanding historical figures once said, “When a great democracy is destroyed, it will not be from enemies from without, but rather because of enemies from within.” . . .  The reason why we find ourselves in a position of impotency is not because our only powerful potential enemy has sent autonomous beings to invade our shores . . . but rather because of the traitorous actions of those who have been treated so well by this Republic. It has not been the less fortunate, or members of minority groups who have been traitorous to this Republic, but rather those who have had all the benefits that the wealthiest Planet in the Known Universe has had to offer . . . the finest homes, the finest col education and the finest jobs in government we can give.  This is glaringly true in the State Department. There the bright young men who are born with silver spoons in their mouths are the ones who have been most traitorous.   I have here in my hand a list of 1,205 . . . a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of Office as being replaced with Clones themselves and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the Senate.  As you know, very recently the Secretary of State proclaimed his loyalty to a man guilty of what has always been considered as the most abominable of all crimes—being a traitor to the people who gave him a position of great trust—high treason. He has lighted the spark which is resulting in a moral uprising and will end only when the whole sorry mess of twisted, warped thinkers are swept from the galactic scene so that we may have a new birth of honesty and decency in government.

V1: Across the Stars -- Set during the events of the prequel trilogy. Padme serves as Queen, abdicates against her homeworld's wishes and is forced into a government roll to continue to oversee her people. she ends up dying after the birth of her children, having placed both of them in hiding.

V2: All Things Die - Padme does not die but instead continues her work in the formation of the rebel alliance and grows near to the head of the alliance. She is separated from her children for their safety.

V3: His Moon Fell - Padme gets to keep one or both of her children (Plotting dependent). She either gets to go to Alderaan, having escaped with Leia and now remains in hiding as a handmaid on Alderaan, watching her daughter grow up from a distance, yet within the same household. Alternatively, she lives with Obi-wan on Tatooine and keeps a closer eye on Luke.

V4: Essence of His Penance - Padme is traveling the known universe over with one of her kids in tow, trying her best to keep them safe.
