Spoilers for Deltarune Chapter 5. Both Weird Route and Normal Route.

So the two sides of the lake scene. They’re both so different but also are the exact same. Noelle has gone through the base character development of growing above and beyond the shackles put in place by the expectations of her. She’s broken free. But the ways she goes about it are different.

In the normal route it’s the love and compassion Susie gives her that makes Noelle realize she wants to stay and have that relationship with Susie. Susie and Kris have shown her that she doesn’t have to fit the mold. She can be her own person with wants.

Then there’s the Weird Route. Noelle is broken. She’s been tormented by the soul to push forward, get stronger. Proceed. It uses the worst parts of her to break her from her chains of expectation but she is shattered in the process. Kris wants to save her but they can’t. The soul wont let them. It reverses every attempt they made. Noelle heard the soul and listened. At the beach she’s finally about to be fully free from it all. The town, her trauma, her perceived expectations. She steps into the lake, Kris in hand. They can do nothing to stop Noelle. The soul is in control. And they proceed. Walking deep into the waters and disappearing into the dark.
