noah-blackwell :
Noah didn’t know everything that went on between Astrid and Joslyn, but he knew it went deeper than just hatred over being turned. He knew of Joslyn’s death dealers, and it wasn’t even the slightest surprise that she would’ve wanted to recruit Astrid for such a duty. After all, who better to have within those ranks but someone who had spent her entire life killing the most difficult to kill? And it was no surprise either that Astrid turned her down, rebelled. It all made sense, but that didn’t make his place in it any easier.
“I honestly don’t care why you went after her,” Noah admitted, shaking his head, “But there can be no us, no this, if it continues.” Of course Astrid posed little to no threat to Joslyn on a normal day. Joslyn was unkillable, immortal, and Astrid stood no chance against her in the end - which was easily proven by the fact that she’d already been killed once for facing off with her. So maybe it hadn’t mattered all that much int he past the way it did now. Astrid could have her squabbles and continue to rebell with his sister, but she could never to her harm. But simply knowing if an opportunity were to arise, she would capitalize? What if they hadn’t been prepared, what if their guard had been down?
He couldn’t keep doing this. What Joslyn was doing to Astrid may be cruel, but she was his sister and he would always be loyal to her first and foremost. No matter his feelings for Astrid. “I can’t love someone who despises what is most important to me.”
“Then make her stop!” Astrid snapped angrily. Of course she was the bad guy, but, in a way, she couldn’t blame Noah. Family came first to him, and while it wasn’t something she could understand, she respected it. The Blackwells had gone through more than anyone else in their kind, and all of it was bound to bring them close. Yet, still, it didn’t stop her from hurting. No matter what, no matter what her reasons were, she would always be misunderstood.
“Do you really think I want to go around, trying to get rid of something that cannot go, when I already have plenty of people going after me, trying to take me out?” She questioned him. Why did she try? Why did she try to go through to him, to make him understand? It was a lost cause, yet, if she at least didn’t try, she would hate herself for an eternity. “Do you really think I don’t want a peaceful life?” She spoke again, after a moment of silence, before turning around to finish dressing up. “I snapped, at the ball. I wanted all of it to be over.” Astrid paused again, then, thinking it all through. She was done killing, a long time ago. Everything she did was out of self defense, even if it created even more enemies.
“I don’t despise her. That would mean giving her far too much attention.” Once fully dressed, she finally turned back to face Noah. “But I’m tired of being scared for my life. I’m tired of being scared to even look the wrong way, to say the wrong thing. And I can’t just avoid her.”
