A missing scene. Thanks for all the fanart and fic throughout the years, you guys
So. Terry Pratchett is the one who wrote the vast majority of the original book, based off an outline and worldbuilding done by Neil. Starting with that.
There's a line that really sticks with me, about Crowley being an optimist at heart, underneath it all, and believing that no matter what, the universe will look after them. He doesn't give up when it looks like the Apocalypse really is going to happen after all. He doesn't give up on humanity. And it's that optimism, that he's specifically gotten from all his time spent with humanity, that sets him apart and allows him to exercise free will to go against the Ineffable Plan.
And there's another line by Pratchett that the ending makes me think of: "It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people." Maybe the solution all along would've been to just let all the other demons and angels have that exposure to humanity too, to help them realize they're also people.
put this ask in a blender and feed it to me through a straw you are SO CORRECT
PLEASE BEWARE!
I just got this message by a fellow dca-er's account that recently got hacked. I almost believed it but this is not real.
Victor Regalado is not a real member of tumblr staff and might not even be a real person. Do not trust it if someone tells you they reported you by accident, especially if you didn't get any other information about it from staff yourself. Do not give them any information!
If someone that seems real (like not a new acc, normal posts, someone you might have spoken with, etc.) tells you this, DO NOT TRUST THIS.
No member of tumblr staff will contact you or require you to contact them through Discord or What's App!
Current users that I know of that are currently hacked are @/yukitsen @/haruka-636, and @/smilerua.
DO NOT SEND THEM HATE!! THEY ARE NOT DOING THIS; THEIR ACCOUNTS ARE CURRENTLY NOT IN THEIR POSSESSIONS!!
I also got my acc hacked last night.
I apolpgize for all the messages sent from my account. Never in my 34 years did I fall for a scam.
Fortunately I caught on early and the hacker only managed to get accees to my acc and put 2fa on it and after messaging some folks deleted my blog. And I say fortunately cus it did not get to the point of me giving away sensible bank info.
I submited a ticket to Tumblr at arouns 8:30 pm and at 1 am they solved my problem.
I was an idiot through and through.
And another thing.
When I said removing the Heaven/Hell/religious context from Aziraphale and Crowley and said their human version had no reason to fall for each other what I think I meant is they had no reason to connect to each other.
And the fact is and what we saw is human Aziraphale is a quirky foodie bookseller and human Crowley is an astrophysicist.
And I didn t mean that there isn t more to their love of course there s more to their love but what I meant is Aziraphale wasn t just a quirky bookseller, Crowley didn t just love stars and the universe. It s part of who they were sure but a lot of people are or can love those.
What made it different is they fell for each other for deeper reasons, they liked each other for some very complex facets of their personalities. At first!!!
Of course that during those 6000 years they got to know and see more of each other and of who they are and they loved those aspects of each other too.
Remember the end of season 1? Aziraphale aays that Crowley is deep down just a little bit of a good person and Crowley says about Aziraphale that he s just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing. THIS HERE IS THE BASIS!
Otherwise Crowley could like any other quirky foodie bookseller and Aziraphale could ve like any astrophysicist. And yes as humans they had dinner and the same interactions as before and Crowley still enjoying watching Aziraphale eat or his quirky way with words but you re left wondering...
I ll put it like this: let s say my partner fell in love with me because he really loved the fact that I go against the grain and like helping others and my community and i just have this way of fighting for what s good in the face of adversity. Of course he d also love that I dunno love to cook or to collect random stuff like stamps or money (real things I collect btw) BUT if you take away that core core part of my personality that he first fell for we d be left with a random chick who likes to cook and collect things and a lot of people do those things. Not a lot the latter.
I can atest to that from my own experience: i help my community, i love to volunteer, i love to do activism (go to protests, donate, raise awaremess, participate in events like planting trees and flowers and educating people on taking care of nature - ive always done things and it s part of my very core and i literally have no friends interested in any of these actively. Im not saying im special lord knows plenty of people do what I do but if you d take this core trait from me I wouldn t be me id be some chick who likes cooking and collecting stuff with very different moral and ethical views.
That s what I mean that s what they took from Aziraphale and Crowley.
if i see one more person say that they don't need to show physical affection to be in love or are above kisses as celestial beings I will crash out because? they clearly aren't? not after a kiss was introduced in s2? not after every single proof that they are actually more human than they should be? not after crowley enjoying sleep and alcohol and aziraphale's love for food aka the physical things that humans enjoy???
Read or don’t. I want to talk about why Aziraphale made me mad in the finale
I love Aziraphale to pieces okay. Precious, soft, doing his best, and must be protected. But I think his behavior sometimes shows a pattern of expecting things from his relationship with Crowley that he doesn't return and everyone has their own take on fandom and I think it's healthy to talk about it.
First point obviously: abandoning Crowley
It's not just Aziraphale thought he was making a sacrifice to do what's right. Crowley clearly needed him and was not subtle about telling him that. Absolute rock bottom depression for years. He is trying to communicate that need and Aziraphale point blank ignores every attempt to address it. Crowley is so clearly suffering this whole episode and there are things Aziraphale could have done to show some compassion even with his decision to choose heaven and he just kinda pretends he doesn't see any of it
Aziraphale's return to Earth. Practically the whole street is gone. Maggie and Nina, ostensibly members of the community he was invested in last season, have disappeared.
Queen Mrs Sandwich here to deliver some FRESH FACTS. She says a lot of direct stuff here and tells no lies. She can smell someone who only shows up when they want something on THEIR terms and THEIR terms only
He pointedly doesn't mention Crowley at all here. And Mrs Sandwich sees right through him. He was there when the community served him. Eccles cakes and records and the like. But when THEY needed HIM, he wasn't there. You don't abandon something you love
This feels like the most manipulative we've ever seen Aziraphale and I really don't like it. He doesn't actually care about Jesus at all but he knows Crowley does. Crowley was kind to him. All the kingdoms of the world and such. So when Crowley doesn't want to do it for Aziraphale, he tries to leverage Jesus' wellbeing to convince him instead. And then picks up the "we both own the Bentley" thing again. But it's only ownership on Aziraphale's terms, when it suits him. When the Bentley was lost, Aziraphale wouldn't give half a thought until he needed Crowley to drive him again. It's giving 'divorced parent who doesn't pay child support then shows up and tries to claim shared custody.'
And then there was this forgiveness thing. I couldn't believe after all that business Aziraphale was now asking Crowley to forgive him. Why did he need to hear it so badly?? So he would feel better about the whole thing??? because he just gave forgiveness to Michael for doing irredeemable things and needs to know he isn't irredeemable either????????? Has Aziraphale done anything to address the way that Crowley, Whickber street, etc feel abandoned by him?? And Crowley doesn't want to do it. He literally spits out the words. Did Aziraphale ask because he knows Crowley can't say no to him, even if what Aziraphale is asking for will hurt Crowley (so then was he wrong to ask???) And they've never at all really talked about why it's so hard for Crowley to forgive him. Why he feels hurt by Aziraphale. They never once in the entire show talked properly about literally anything and I'm losing my mind
This scene was of course affectionate but I found it so tragic in how surprised Crowley was at everything Aziraphale said. Crowley acted like Aziraphale has never talked like this to him before, how would he know Aziraphale feels this way. For thousands of years, Crowley's gotten tacit disapproval, blatant rejections, and a single conditional acceptance of Crowley provided he became an angel again and pretended to be something he isn't and doesn't want to be. I do think Aziraphale sees no difference between Angel Crowley and Demon Crowley but I think Crowley does and Aziraphale has always just ignored it. Aziraphale wants to put Crowley back up in heaven because he thinks he belongs there but not wanting to be in/do things like heaven is the reason Crowley fell. Idk I think I just wanted a universe where Aziraphale could say this kind of stuff to Crowley as a demon, not Crowley as the once-shining-angel-Aziraphale-pretends-he-still-is. Myabe it's the whole 'unlinking goodness from heaven' thing that Aziraphale never really learned.
If Aziraphale has just realized/is deciding to embrace this conclusion, it is literally too little too late. (Cue "it's always too late" from 2x3) The actual end of themselves and reality is the absolute worst time for Aziraphale to finally choose him. This has always been the tragedy of their relationship. They can never choose each other at the right time, together. There were probably a dozen times in the past that Crowley needed Aziraphale to choose him and he didn't.
Idk. I love Aziraphale but I love Crowley too. I think this has all been about Crowley getting what he needs and it was 6-episodes-shrunk-into-1 and I just wanted to see Aziraphale choose Crowley, like REALLY choose him in words and behavior and acceptance in a way he could follow through on for the rest of their lives
DID YOU SEE JESUS AND ADAM (ANTICHRIST) GETTING DRINKS TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also all of season 3 falls flat and really inadvertently sends a bad message:
Beelz and Gabriel, very important higher up entities, run off together keeping their immortality and memories and with Heaven and Hell not pursuing them or caring.
Meanwhile Aziraphale and Crowley (after making sure humanity is alright and not in shambles) couldn t go off together and the whole universe had to die.
Now, I don t wanma be that person and it probably wasn t meant to be viewed that way but:
IT SURE IS CONVENIENT THAT THE HETEROSEXUAL PRESENTING COUPLE COULD GET THAT HAPPY END BUT AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY COULDN'T!
Removing the Heaven/Hell experience and context from Aziraphale and Crowley means that the human versions really have no reason to fall for each other.
Crowley fell for Aziraphale at first because he was the only angel, aside from himself, who ahowed free will and defiance of the system they were brought up in. Aziraphale giving away his sword to Adam and Eve really made Crowley stop and actually want to get to know Aziraphale.
Aziraphale fell for Crowley because Crowley operates outside the binary of good/evil. Let me explain. Aziraphale was taught demons are evil and are the enemy. But then he sees Crowley as a demon and he s not evil and he s not what Aziraphale would traditionally call good but he does good despite his nature and Aziraphale is intrugued by that, he s never seen that before. He still thinks inn a black and white way about good/evil but Crowley challenged him to rethink that and even though Aziraphale clings to his binary views because it s all he s known and wouldn t really admit it out loud, he really loved and was surprised that a demon could do some good, that the ineffable plan wasn t as ineffable. He obviously liked Crowley s love and enthusiasm when he was creating stars but that was not exactly what sparked his interest at first.
As Crowley said "just think, if you did the bad thing and I did the good thing"
Their human versions have uh none of that. They have similar personalities and to a degree you d see why they d choose each other but the core foundation is gone.
Aziraphale loving books and food and so on came later and Crowley loved him/was interested way before all that. Similarly while Crowley s love for stars was there since day one the rest of it wasn t. He wasn t yet the demon that CHOSE to do some good.
Basically they both chose each other because deep down their demonstration of free will in the face of the ineffable plan and God is the first thing they admired and adored about each other without stating it out loud.
Humanity doesn't always need to be the aspiration.
I don't mean that in a cynical "people suck and humanity is inherently evil and our species is doomed to destroy itself" way. I mean as an enjoyer of the Fantasy genre, humanity doesn't always need to be the aspiration. Humanity doesn't need to be the endgame. Humanity doesn't need to be the only way anyone can get a Happily Ever After.
And I truly don't understand why so many people who write this genre seem to think it is.
I like that the characters have superpowers. I like the fantastical elements. I like immortality as a characteristic, whether it's a relationship hurdle or a source of self-loathing or a source of hubris or just incidental. That's very much part of the appeal.
Why am I getting invested in these stories about vampires and werewolves and angels and demons and elves and fairies if they're all going to end up stripped down to Regular Human at the end? Why shouldn't I just read/watch a non-fantasy story that's about regular humans to begin with then? Why is being Human the only possible way to be happy?
If a character starts out as a fantastical being (or even becomes one along the way), it's completely fine—in fact desirable, I would argue—for them to end the story as a fantastical being. Humanity doesn't need to be the aspiration. Humanity doesn't need to be the endgame.
So many unresolved things.
I will die on the hill that OFMD, for all its faults, at least had Stede and Ed discuss their awkward kiss and major fall out from the end of season 1. That s how set up and pay off works.
Aziraphale and Crowley discuss nothing. Crowley is hurt and it really seems he wants to talk because he kept prodding Aziraphale making it clear he wanted an opportunity to talk. Aziraphale never really gives a proper apology, even a proper hug at least or something.
People are angry because there was a lot of set up with no pay off. And not only for the kiss.
:)
Just a soft hug of two softies men.
God’s unique creations
So I have recently gotten obsessed with #conclave and I wanted to do something. Since my drawing skills are so so I touched polymer clay for the first time and my deformed blorbo came out.
Obviously Vincent is my fav.
I know this is impossibly wonky but I loved doing it.
The pics are before and after painting him. 😅
I will practice more but will this incredibily talented fantom accept this shy offering?
