HG hot takes tag game
Tag game rules: Share your Hunger Games hot takes, and make sure that they are BOILING HOT!
Don't judge other people for their opinions! Always be kind! :D
I'll start with mine:
I don't think that Gloss, Cashmere and Enobaria were friends with Finnick and Johanna
Passing the ball to: @we-fly-for-the-ones-we-l0ve, @olyaroo, @cashmeresknife, @writes-too-much, @hail-mary-38, @consumerorstars, @foxiesashum, @forever-eternally-raven, @humantrainwreck03 @sparklesforelenaa @sparklebear11 @wavingatsunlight+all the lovely people who would like to join!!!
thanks for the tag!
unfortunately i'm not much for hot takes. i'll try.
sunrise on the reaping wasn't my favorite, not even because of the retconning etc. but just because the story didn't grip me like. at all. this is of course pure opinion. the first time i read it, i cried at things like ampert's death (i think that was it, actually), but when i closed it i kind of forgot about it. it took me a while to get through because i kept getting distracted or by plot points i didn't really understand. which brings me to my second point: the whole bit about president snow meddling with haymitch before he'd won. why? what was the point? the scene with the milk, while satisfying, completely took me out of it because it made so little sense. this is a big year for the games. snow has lots on his plate. why on earth would he spend so much time on one random tribute when there are forty-seven other ones and he sees them all as cannon fodder, basically? and to go so far as to talk about his love life with haymitch? lucy gray as a kind of 'one that got away' is a serious point of weakness for snow, and he certainly would not display that in front of who he views as district scum. not to mention that haymitch is a teenager and snow is in his fifties. weird. adding to this list of moments i really disliked: lucy gray appearing on the television. what was the point, again.
i don't have a problem with snow still thinking about lucy gray. that makes sense. but to take it so far as to find out about this random kid's girlfriend and threaten him? doesn't he have a country to run? it just seemed crazy to me.
right that was a lot longer than i thought it would be. whoops.
i am also completely content with the amount of books we have now. i am not foaming at the mouth for another novel like i know some people are. i think, especially after sunrise, that another book would feel cash-grabby and, i dunno, fake? i'm not putting this into words well, but i guess i don't quite trust it anymore, which makes me sad.
this is word vomit and likely unintelligible. i apologize.
tags! @an-unoriginalperson @writes-too-much @foxiesashum @zenkor123
I was tagged by both @consumerorstars and @vinsel-ao3
My top 3 are:
Snow did love Lucy Gray but that doesn't mean it was a healthy love or that they were 'endgame.' It was possessive, objectifying, and dangerous.
Cashmere is the older (not a hot take but I'll live and die by it)
It is just as likely that Cashmere/Gloss were in on the rebellion as not, you just kinda have to make HCs as to why it isn't brought up. Which, to be fair, is half of what this fandom does for other things so like...that's fine?
I'd like to tag @districtonegirls @districtfourmermaid and @ro-garden
I don't have many hot takes but I'll try tossing my hat into the ring
1-It's mostly fan service but I really wish that we got more of the victors and I wish that more of them survived and maybe have that they don't start killing one another immediately in the 75th games, the fact that they have known each other for years if not decades is very underutilized because of that I wish that the 75th games started like the 10th games in the book where the tributes grab weapons but their is no bloodbath idk I feel like that would have been more impactful
2- I wish the cultures of other districts were explored more because I REALLY don't like the take a lot of people have that D12 is the only district with culture outside of its industry I would have loved more scenes with characters discussing the different cultures of each district
3- it was really messed up to leave other victors out of the rebel plot I understand the risks of saying it to someone like Brutus but still
4- Astrid is a horrible mother, I understand that she was struggling with depression but her aboundment of katniss in the end is unforgivable
5- cashmere faced as much abuse as Finnick did and I think it's unfair that people forget that I understand that she's a background character ( and I'm biased) but it's so messed up that they left her and gloss out of the rebel plot she too deserved to get justice for the suffering she experienced

Not sure of how hot my takes are or if I even have any but here we go:
1 - I think there should be more plus-sized or even medium-sized characters in the series (I'm actually more referring to the movies here). We do have Delly Cartwright, who proves that stick-thin isn't the only body type possible in Panem. Plus skinny doesn't always equal starvation and I bet there is at least a handful of people in Panem that have some heavier weight on their bones for various reasons, district or Capitolite. (I also imagine Haymitch with a slight beer belly so there's that)
2 - I actually like Silka and her name. I have my critiques of SOTR, but Silka isn't one of them. I think she's a prime example of a Career tribute and shows that D1 is just as much of a dangerous player in that regard as D2 is.
3 - I don't view Annie as a traditional Career tribute. I think she had some training, but I don't think she was as enthusiastic about being a Career as someone like Cato or Brutus likely were. I think she's still an absolute badass woman who knew how to fight and likely wield a weapon/know how to survive, but I don't think she was as keen on the Career culture as her peers from Career districts.
4 - I don't think this fandom has the best etiquette, especially when it comes to delicate subjects the series deals with. While I give some people a pass because part of the fandom is very young and the series is technically aimed at a young adult audience, I also think there is little excuse for older people in the fandom to be rude or inconsiderate. I've seen and interacted with too many people who don't respect others and also disregard sensitive reasons why a fan might not want to interact with a certain sensitive topic.
5 - (Piggybacking off my last one) This fandom doesn't always handle/understand the serious topics discussed in the series. Mainly the sex trafficking/sa topic, where people use it as shock value or talk about it with complete disregard to those who have gone through triggering experiences. I could go more into this but I'm not going to because I'm not in the mood.
Anyways, these are my hot takes I guess, thanks for reading!
OBSESSION (2026) dir. Curry Barker
"I was really obsessed with this Romeo and Juliet ending, actually. We shot both; we shot this ending that you see in the movie, and we shot the ending where she ends it all. We had shot a ton of different versions of the official ending, the one that's in the script, the one that I was excited about, and I was like, Okay, we'll do one ending where Nikki survives, but we'll just do one take of it, and then we'll move on. You see her coming to this realization that she's alive again, and she's looking around the room, and she looks so disturbed, and I just remember my dad and multiple people around me being like, 'Dude, I think it's way more disturbing if she just survives this thing.' I was like, 'Ah, you're right.' And so we switched it." – Curry Barker
