hi guys. gonna go through the starters. wish me luck.
thereâs a rotten flower in her mouth, and a bullet hole in yours. she is all hips and ankles and words and laughing. and you are all blood and meat and pain and power. but the thing you donât realize, is she slowly cuts away at you, each night, while you cry out in ecstasy. and it shows that you are the one with the rotten flowers, and decaying heartbeats. and this women, goddess, lady, queen. is the one with the bullet holes, that she tucks against her breast and keeps for later. because didnât you know? beauty has always been deadlier than the battlefield you call home.

ppayton:
payton was sure if her hand gently brushed against atlasâ skin that she would catch frostbite. he was colder than she had ever seen or heard him before, the distance evident in his tone of voice and visible within the near empty bottle of scotch. âwe werenât an item,â she emphasized, arms crossed over her chest in a protective barrier to keep herself away from the cold. ânor did i try to keep it a secret. we have no secrets or did you forget our quarrel those weeks ago in which we promised each other to provide the truth and nothing but the truth to each other?â she stared him down, head tilting in confusion. ânot in a romantic sense but we are tied together in a fake relationship.â she scoffed, lips pressing together in anger. âso actually telling you something of importance jeopardizes this arrangement? this was a train-wreck long before i chose to be honest with you. i told you in the beginning i was the wrong choice and yet you ignored my concerns. now here you are giving me an out. you are not even ending it yourself but giving me a choice for what? to spare your conscience?â she pulled at the roots of her hair in frustration. âclose? i couldnât be farther away from you and you always made sure i kept a safe distance. i was never let in.â her skin boiled with pent up anger, porcelain skin swapping with a flushed pink tinge. âiâm not calling this off, but itâs nice to know that you donât give a shit who i love or kiss or fuck. noted. iâll make sure to slut my way across the hamptons since it will never mean a goddamn thing to you. itâs fine. youâve already made it crystal clear how free i already am.âÂ
A dark look crossed his face, but it sat on his features comfortably as though it belonged there. His lip remained taut, caught between a frown and a sneer and there was a feral accent to his bright blue eyes that made him look a little wild, a little dangerous, like a wolf in a forest. âWe did say that three weeks ago, didnât we?â He acknowledged with a humourless laugh. âAnd yet when I asked youâWhen IâŠYou keep jerking me around. First you want me to love you and next you want to tell me that you love someone else enough to kiss them when youâre âengagedâ,â He accentuated the words with air quotations. âLook. Iâm not mad at you and I wonât be. I refuse to be. I guess I justâŠâ He trailed off. âYou were never the wrong choice, not for me. You were the only choice.â To this point, he had remained on the bed, unmoving and stalwart, like a statue, but the rest of her words managed to rouse him until he was standing and crossing the rest of the distance to her. When the toes of their shoes were nearly touching, he halted, his towering form looming over her. âFarther away?â He echoed, voice all acid and poison. âI guess you really donât know me. Youâre close. Closer than anyone â or you were. I guess you arenât anymore.â So far he was just defensive over a sick rising in his chest, one he did not understand, but as the conversation escalated he grew from confused to indignant. âWhen have I ever â When have I ever before now given you the impression you did not matter? When have I ever. When I checked myself in a psych ward to keep you safe? When I went toe to toe with your dickhead father and told him I wouldnât leave you? When I pushed away a woman I once cared deeply for because of this â this non-relationship we have? When have I ever made you feel like you meant nothingâŠuntil now, until now when I have realised thisâŠ.this really was meaningless, but not to me. To you.â
guilt was always kind of second nature for payton. her tendency to apologize for things that were not even remotely her fault stemming from family troubles when she was a young pigtailed girl. she didnât know why kissing stan made her feel so guilty. her and atlas had no romantic connection. their engagement had always been just an arrangement for the both of them. she was even quite sure that atlas probably had spent nights with other women or she at least assumed as much with his striking looks. so to confess to him that she kissed stan shouldnât have made her as nervous as she was. hell, she didnât even know why she felt inclined to tell him. she liked stan and the decision to kiss him was her own. âatlas,â she called out, knuckles scraping the wood of his room door. she slipped into his space, wanting to strike up an interesting conversation and lead into the confession but the minute she opened up her mouth, âi kissed stan!â came tumbling out, teeth chewing at the side of her cheek, eyes dropping to the ground in front of her in slight embarrassment. @atlasgreys
There was a fast emptying bottle of Scotch placed on the ground between his feet and his entire body seemed to slouch forward as his hands pressed against his face. It was one of those days when the only thing that seemed to make sense was seeing the bottom of the bottle taunting him from below. A memory danced at the back of his brain, teasingly. A memory of Christmas dinner years ago, before Asteriae had come into his life and coloured it with meaning. A time before he knew what unconditional love felt like. His nan had tried to arrange a playdate for him on the night she was meant to see her son â his uncle, but his friend had fallen ill at the last minute and she and his mother had not choice but to bring him along. It was funny. He could even remember the ride over, folded up in the back of their tiny four-door while his mother complained of how she knew Daniel â his uncle â would be so upset. Upset about what, Atlas hadnât really gathered. He was only about six or seven and his comprehension of matters involving the human heart wasâŠlimited to say the least. He didnât realise, not even as he walked into the room behind his grandmother and mum and every single face fell at once, not even when his uncle announced his wife was having a baby and someone turned to his grandmother and exclaimed, âYouâre going to be a grandmother!â As if he somehow didnât count. His grandmother was a good woman. She took care of him even when she loved and hated him at once. Loved him for who he was, hated him for what he represented, for the pain he ignorantly brought onto their family. A family that was broken and cracked and falling apart in a way his innocent, naive and underdeveloped mind couldnât quite understand.
He moved to lift the bottle to his mouth, his striking blue eyes catching Payton in the doorway as he tipped his chin upward to take the swig. She had this horrible look on his face, the sort of look of someone who thought they were about to hurt your feelings. Atlas had come to memorise that look over his youth and could now recognise it from a mile away. Instead of immediately answering, he took the swig heâd intended to, nearly choking as soon as her confession dispersed into the air between them. There was no rage in the way his fingers clenched tighter around the bottle, not really. No anger in the whitening of his knuckles or the hardening of his gaze. That wasnât anger it was little builders waking up from slumber and hastening to build and pave walls that had been neglected for a while. It was his castle forming around him, caging one lonely ice prince within. He nodded, a tacit little jut to acknowledge that he had heard her, had understoodâŠthough he wasnât sure if he did understand. Why was she upset, after all? âI thought you two were alreadyâŠan item,â He began stonily. âI didnât realise you were trying to keep it a secret.â His teeth pressed into the insides of his cheeks and a light filtered through the sea blues of his irises as though something had just dawned on him. âWe arenât in a relationship and who you kiss is really none of my business. â Actually, the fact you think it is my business means this was never going to work in the first place.â
Cold, each word was ice cold, frostbite growing on the edges of each syllable. Why are you being like this, a voice that sounded suspiciously like his motherâs gnawed at his brain. It was a bad day, a bad fucking day and he didnât have time for Paytonâs personal drama or the fact she kept fucking around with a man who simply was not good enough for her. Not that he cared either way, what was good for her and what wasnât. âOkay, youâve been great, but this is justâŠI should have never let you get close. I thought you knew me well enough to know better, but it seems I was wrong. You can call this off now, if you want, so you can be free. Free to love, kiss, or fuck anyone you want. It doesnât matter to me.â An uncomfortable knot formed in his stomach as he said it, something foreign and unknowable, but he ignored it and pressed on. âIt never will.â
Zaynâs eyes were closed as he sat in the emptiest part of the beach with his earphones in. It wasnât that he didnât want to be around anyone. Itâs just that he  wanted to enjoy being out without a group of fan bombarding him for a picture or an autograph. He had his feet buried in the sand and his arms wrapped around his knees. When he felt someone sit next to him, his eyes shot open and he looked at them as he pulled at earphone out so that he could hear them. âHowâd you find me?â He questioned. âOr did you just so happen to stumble upon my hiding spot?â He added, his teasing tone evident.
It was a hot day. The kind of sticky heat that made naked skin feel like too many layers. As he trudged along the beach, he thought of home. Home with its chill breeze and its rapidly changing weather. He came to an almost halt when he saw a familiar face, mixed feelings swarming inside his ribcage. On the one hand, Atlas still stood by the fact Payton could sleep with whoever she wants to - and certainly prior to their engagement - no, arrangement, he corrected himself. Still, a part of him felt a little twist in his gut when he thought about it - them, Zayn and Payton, twisted in the sheets, the male enjoying the body heat of a girl who was like the sun while Atlas left her cold, bereft, and wanting for the touch of a man she actually wanted. Instead of turning away like he originally considered, he came closer, slotting into the space beside him. âZayn,â He greeted, the Sheffield of his accent thick and unwelcoming while his tone remained pleasant. âYouâre right. Iâve been stalking you,â He added dryly. âBeen wondering if you were up for some fun.â

Richard drummed his fingers against the table he sat at, hand clutching a bottle of whiskey as he read the back of the liquor. He had come to visit his daughter who was currently taking a quick shower. She had left her father with a cuppa tea but he wanted something stronger for the real intent of his spontaneous visit. âAtlas,â he greeted politely, taking a small indulgent sip from his glass. âMay we talk?â @atlasgreys
The expression on his face was nothing remotely akin to welcoming. Instead the boy seemed to be clearly on guard as he faced his future father-in-law, a man who he was already wary of from the way he treated his daughter in the psych ward. âMr. Jenetti,â He acknowledged with a nod of head. âWe can talk, sure. Why donât you take a seat over there? Wouldnât want you to be uncomfortable.â
âSo, youâre really doing it, huh?â It came out in a drunken slur as the brunette lifted a shot glass to her red mouth. âGetting married,â She clarified before taking the shot, her entire face scrunching up as she fought off the bitter taste. âUgh, hate tequila.â The profession was followed by her reaching for a lime and sucking on it. Her brown eyes finally lifted to the pale face of one of her former flings and biggest mistakes, Atlas Grey. âDoes that girl have any idea what sheâs getting into or did you pull a fast one on her like you did me?â @atlasgreys
There was a wary expression on his face as he watched his former flame down one shot after the other in quick succession. At the tail-end of a bad date, he received a phone call from her. It was nothing more really than a drunken command involving a time and a place, but Atlas always had a hard time saying no to her. It had been that way from day one. âThatâs right. Iâm getting married. Crazy thought, right?â Only it wasnât so crazy. At least not when he was propped up against Valeriaâs sky-high commitment issues. âI donât know how youâre remembering things, but Iâm notâIâm not mistreating Payton. I donât thinkâŠItâs not the same. I wanted too much with you. Me and Payton, weâre on the same page.â It was stupid and unfair, the sort of charm Vale possessed despite being incredibly socially awkward. The sort of beauty that stayed clear on the lines of her heart-shaped face even when she was like this: angry, drunk, misplacing the blame. âMust have been a really bad date to get you like this. Whatâs his name? I can pay him a visit.â
ppayton:
Payton was counting down the minutes until she would be able to take a scorching hot shower. She had just wrapped up a super intense upbeat choreography class she taught. Her skin was sweaty and her muscles ached in protest at every step she took closer to Atlasâ home, when a blur of silver caught her eye. Speaking of the devil, there Atlas sat in an alleyway on route home. âBabe?â the blonde called out, taking quick steps toward her future husband. She leaned backward on the wall next to the silver haired boy, looking at the wall across from her. âWhat are you doing alone in an alleyway?â
Dull blue eyes continued to dully regard as shapes seemed to carve themselves into the brick in front of him. Pearly white teeth bite into a bruised lower lip, threatening to break open a drying cut. He wasnât sure how long heâd been standing there, his entire body numb and all too comfortable. His mother had named his sister for the Titan of falling stars, because she filled the hearts of those around her with hope. Because when people saw her wishes seemed to form themselves on the tip of their tongues, and Atlas? Atlas was a Titan condemned stand at the edge of the Earth and hold the world on his shoulders for an eternity. What sort of fate had his mother foreseen for him when she chose his name? Did she know from the start that he would be his fatherâs son? That he would be burdened by his anger and his darkness? He was torn out of his thoughts by a sweet, familiar voice. âHey,â He greeted, his voice sounding far away to his ears. His head dropped slightly to the side so he was leaning against the top of hers. âDunno. Asterâs gone for the week. Didnât feel like going inside, you know. How was dance?â
