Not "The Character did nothing wrong" or "The Character is irredeemably awful" but a secret third thing: The Character may display moments of deep love & compassion, may even have a strong sense of ethics, and may also be capable of brutal cruelty that is irreconcilable with those traits. The constant tension between the different sides of The Character's nature is exactly what makes them compelling, and attempting to reduce them down to simply "a terrible person" or "innocent & misunderstood" is missing the point of the questions a media with nuanced characters is asking you to consider

Did anyone else ever read The Mysterious Benedict Society as a kid? You know what my favorite thing about that book is? How each kid was a different type of smart. For example, when each faced with a maze, one kid figured out the trick to always knowing which path to take, another took every path and simply memorized where the dead ends were, the third one climbed over and around the walls, and the fourth simply say down and ate a sandwich because she knew that someone would have to come get her eventually.

My favorite part about ONE is that despite his lack of ability to draw characters and backgrounds (a lack of ability which is rapidly going away. Look at early OPM vs. current Mob Psycho) he’s really good at perspective and the rules of like, motion.

So much so that before Mob Psycho (and possibly the Manga of OPM) people were under the impression he was intentionally drawing at that level to satirize the low-budget and sketchy art of popular shonen.
