discord has been pushing its new uk online safety act changes early for some users. this screenshot belongs to a 32 year old who used discords built in face scanner to verify their age. the scanner said they were 11 years old, and instantly suspended the account, with no option to try again or appeal, and the suspension will automatically end in 2027, when they’re “old enough” to use discord.

DO NOT SCAN YOUR FACE TO VERIFY YOUR AGE

if you really want to verify your age, use a different option available. don’t trust the face scan.

The main issue there then is like them cutting off people from their communities online by use of bullshit technology, like it'd be good to not do it but the UK is pretty small population in regards to if they're testing this shit out on us.

You should like send messages to discord to tell them it's bullshit so that all these places go back to the UK government saying it's unworkable. We can't do it by ourselves.

I mean it wasn’t mine i got it off tumbler dot org, but there are things that you can do seemingly an unlimited number of times per day, that don’t drain on your internal resources, and that make abled people think you don’t have chronic pain or fatigue or brain fog whatever because look, she’s writing her journal or whatever, surely she must be able to also do her homework, but maybe for you journal-writing is a cantrip, whereas homework takes a spell slot. And you only get a certain number of spell slots per long rest because they drain you in a more profound way, and you need to save one for cooking dinner and you already used one to walk to the store for milk. It’s a variant on Spoon Theory for nerds.

Additional 5e mechanic that is helpful: spell slots exist in multiple power levels. You can use a more powerful spell slot to cast a lower level spell (lvl 2 in a lvl 3 slot) but you cannot cast a high level spell (like lvl 5) in that same slot. Similarly, you can use up a Big Task spoon to do something that qualifies as a Small Task for you, but you usually can't use a Small Task spoon for a Big Task.

I don't drink coffee and I've never wanted to, but that's obviously ~not normal~, so I'm curious why most people do start drinking it.

For me, it's because, as a child, I was incredibly cranky, and as soon as caffeine-free Coke was introduced, Mom had me start drinking that, and, hey, I got a lot less crabby, so that made me want to avoid caffeine. I also never really cared for the smell of coffee, either, so had absolutely no interest in drinking even decaf.

(and yes I am very aware that "it makes me feel better" and "love the way it smells" are top answers in why people do drink it XD)
