“How long will it be us? If she left why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t I? Apparently this family didn’t mean what I thought it did.” She brought her knees to her chest and tried to keep her heart from aching more. “We’re not together. We’re all on our own now… The string was cut.”

“I am in this forever. You are the only family I have ever wanted. Your blood runs in my veins as mine runs in yours. I cannot speak for Clotho. But I swear on the river nyx that I am going no where.” Atropos slid down the wall to sit next to Lachesis. “You’re never on your own. Never. Even when I wasn’t here I sent how many emails? Sent how many packages? Swore I would be here as soon as I could be. You know what my word means.”

Hermes grinned maliciously as he caught sight of Atropos carrying her bat behind her. He couldn’t help but wonder how many times people got bats while their intentions had nothing at all to do with baseball. This was a game in itself though, and Hermes was going to treat it as such. He already looked like he could be some type of television host for some game show. A black suit might not have seemed like the right thing to wear to go smashing up cars and stealing them, but Hermes was experienced and knew exactly what he was doing. He could’ve dressed in a gold suit with flashing bright lights, and he still wouldn’t have gotten caught. Experience was key in these operations, and he had it.

Operating the role of the game show host, Hermes hopped onto the top of the nearest car. He held his staff near his face, acting as if it were a microphone, and spoke dramatically. “Ladies, gentleman, and variations thereupon, we are gathered here today, not to simply fuck shit up, but to marvel at the impermanent beauty of life’s material objects. We will do this by … well, smashing those material objects. Hey, batter batter. Hey, batter batter. Swing!” At the last word, he swung his staff down, smashing through the car’s window. He brought it back out, the sharp metal slicing through the fabric of the seats, and he looked down at Atropos. “Batter up.”

Atropos could feel the adrenaline start to tear through her veins at the sight of the matching smile. It burned under her skin, fire fueling the rage she already had pent up. It had been much too long since she had an outlet for it. She swung the bat up to her shoulder, stretching out her wrist, She took in his full get up and vaguely wondered if his suit would get ripped in the adventure they were about to begin.

Chills ran down her spine as he spoke, fingers twitching with anticipation. His words seemed to echo in her ears, like a sports announcer. The sound of his voice was then lost to the sounds of destruction. She sighed happily watching the glass fall to pieces. Atropos looked up at him, grinning wider at his words. She strode up to the car and squared up with the mirror. She took her swing, shattering the reflective glass showering out from her bat. The scissors in her boot were calling her name, she reached down and pulled them out. Raking down the side of the car she turned back to Hermes, “your move sir.”

“I know it is… I know…” Lachesis felt the strings of her head beginning to snap, unraveling from themselves and hanging lifeless inside of her skull. “It’s easier alone, I don’t want to talk about it. She left us, that’s all that there is to say.”

Atropos could almost see the light leaving her sister’s eyes. “I know that’s all there is to say. But I just want you to remember that it’s us. We’re in this together. I can leave you alone. But I’m never far.”

Hermes was very emotional lately, his moods varying widely. At times, he was his normal, happy self. At other times, he wanted to weep into a pillow for the rest of his life. Now, he was in the mood to destroy things. He didn’t care what it was, and besides, this was just one thing that would make sure Happy wouldn’t like him anymore if he ever found out about what Hermes was about to do. He’d do worse things later on, but he’d build up to them, starting out small with things like this.

Hermes had a bag of tools at his feet. Inside there were numerous objects that he could use to smash up whatever he wanted to smash. In his hands, he had something his cousin Fester had made for him as what he had assumed would be a wall decoration. Hermes was going to put it to other uses. The gift was a metal staff, meant to resemble the Greek god Hermes’s caduceus. Two silver snakes entwined the rod, and on the top, there were metal wings, jutting out on either side of the rod like the points of a miner’s pick. He twirled the staff on the ground, balancing it on the center while it spun, and he waited for Atropos to show up. 

Atropos had been meditating in her room trying to for a plan to get rid of her anger. She hadn’t talked to anyone in days until Hermes showed up and offered her the perfect plot. She twisted her hair up into a tight bun and pulled a tight black sweater on. She sat on her bed still fuming over her various family issues, she pulled on her Chuck’s and breathed in deeply. She debated over what to bring with her. She hadn’t busted out her tools in too long of time. She had been trying to keep her nose clean for her sisters. But nothing seemed more right then to break them out and get up to her usual ways. 

She stood and made her way to her closet. On her first day she had put in a false back to conceal anything she couldn’t trust her roommate with. Which turned out to be a lot of things. Atty opened the hidden trunk and pulled out her bat, setting it aside she pulled out a silver case with her scissors in it. She smiled to herself as she slid them into her boot. It was time to head down to the lot. She dragged the bat behind her and hummed as she moved her way down. 

Hermes caught her eye immediately with a gnarly metal staff. A sold smile spread across her lips. “Where do we begin?”

Atropos is nothing to the crazy that is Lachesis.

That’s obvious. No one can be as off their rocker as Lachesis, she’s too much for even me to deal with. I genuinely feel bad for Atropos and Clotho for ever having to deal with her. There’s some hope with Atropos but Lachesis? Ha, as if.

Atropos was the only family Lachesis had left. It stung, knowing Clotho had left them, she was the one who had been holding the small pieces of sanity in the blond’s head together. She couldn’t help but to feel empty now. “Why? I just want to be alone right now…”

Atropos sighed and leaned against the wall. It had been a long week. “Because blood of the oath is thick than the waters of the womb.” She looked at her baby sister, “I’m not saying you have to talk to me. or even acknowledge that I’m here. But you’re my baby sister. My stars. I won’t let you deal with this all alone.”

Lachesis had found herself feeling empty since Clotho left. There was an overwhelming weight that had fallen upon her shoulders. She felt hopeless. Hearing the door to her hiding spot open immediately caused her anger to flourish. “Go away, I don’t care what you want or why you’re here. Leave. Is that clear enough for you?”

Atropos had been hiding, she wouldn’t admit that but she had been, in her room avoiding everyone. She realized that Lach had probably been doing the same. So she found herself pushing open a door to the only logical place that her sister would hide, “Oh that’s pretty clear. But I’m not going anywhere.”
