PRESTON WAS PACING back and forth in the front area of their house , waiting patiently for his mom. it wasnât all too often that he agreed to let his mom drag him out to run errands , but heâd gotten almost all of his homework done and figured why not. she was his only mother after all. he checked his phone again , not that he had anywhere else to go if she took longer. â mom , are you ready yet ? â his voice echoed through the house as he paced. ( closed starter ft @audrcymonorcâ )
Rachelâs time at home meant to much time scrolling pinterest and looking at yummy recipes to try out for her kids. She struggled cooking in the past, but she was willing to give it a try and cook something extra nice for dinner. Gathering her purse and keys, she made her way into the living room, âYes, sorry, I lost my keys for a minute, but no worries i found them.â She answered jingling the keys that were in her hand. âIâm so glad that you are coming with me. i found this really cool chicken tacos where instead of the shell, the chicken breast is!â
prestonstjamesâ:
â TO BE HONEST , mom , iâm struggling to see the difference here. â he chuckled , scratching at the back of his neck nervously.  â so what youâre saying is iâm your baby boy ? â
âItâs okay you donât have too, just know that there is one.â She said wiping off her pants, âYes that is exactly what I am saying.â
ivystjamessâ:
âI JUST DONâT KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO YET.â as she sighs, ivy takes interest in a stain on their carpet. sheâs pretty confident itâs from the time eli pushed her when they were kids and she busted her lip open. that was what felt safe and familiar, a stupid bloodstain thatâs near a decade old. ivy talked a big game about being independent and capable, but the fact of the matter was, she had no idea what she wanted out of life. and that was a scary sentiment with such ambitious parents. âsure, itâs dumb, but i donât know, maybe iâll figure it out in the next month.â finally bringing her gaze back up to her mother ivy sighed again. âi mean you and dad were both so certain about what you wanted to make of yourselves at my age, iâm more concerned with what parties iâll be invited to next week.â she shook her head. âi dunno.â she repeated a final time.Â
âWell you have plenty of time to think about that. Donât stress yourself out too much right now.â Rachel said reaching out to put her hand over Ivyâs. She knew that she pressured her kids into performing and always told stories about her when she was kid and the things she had done along with more things, but she never really thought much about it. âWe just had our hearts set at an early age, but that doesnât mean you have too. I mean yes, as your mother I would love to see you going after to something, but sometimes it takes that last minute decision to really tell you what you want to do.âÂ
eli-stjamesâ:
For once, Eliâs mom didnât immediately have something to say. The silence that hung in the air made her nervous, but when her mom finally spoke, she felt relieved. âIs anyone ever really sure about these things?â Eli asked, turning to face her mom once the car was parked. âDidnât you and dad break up and get back together a bunch of times?â Eli asked, shrugging as she ran a hand through her hair. âShe makes me happy,â the eldest St. James daughter said, unable to hide the smile on her face, âand I donât feel scared of who I am anymore.â
âWell I guess not. I just want to make sure you though about this before jumping back in. I donât want to see you hurt.â Rachel answered. She had a past heartbreaks, but she couldnât really relate to what Eli went through. âYeah we did and it was mainly because of timing and we were busy and young.â The mother watched her daughterâs facial expression and couldnât help but match her smile, âIâm really happy that you arenât. You are too amazing to be scared to be who you are.â

prestonstjamesâ:
â WHAT ABOUT IVY and eli ? ivy specifically , you can totally call her a baby longer than me. â he joked , knowing obviously him and ivy were only a year apart.
âIvy is my baby, but she isnât my baby. You just hold that special spot as being my boy.â Rachel said teasing her youngest.
eli-stjamesâ:
Eli took a deep breath and looked ahead at the road in front of them, picking at her fingernails the way she often did when she was nervous. âI seeing Victoria Puckerman,â she said quietly, choosing not to look at her mom directly. âObviously you know I was really sad when we broke up and it was a shit show for those two years when I was justâŚgoing through it. But yeah, weâreâŚdoing it again,â Eli said, finally glancing at her mom. âIâm just telling you because I donât know how often you talk to Mrs. Puckerman or anything, so,â her voice trailed off, âI guess I just wanted you to hear it from me.â
Hearing the blonde girlâs name through Eliâs mouth was another thing that she was not expecting. It might of been a couple of years ago when she had to witness her daughter heartbroken, but it wasnât an experience that a mother easily forgotten. Letting there be a pause as she took in the new information, she decided she was more scared for her daughter than anything. âAre you sure, Eli? I mean I will be behind you no matter what, but I just donât want to see you like that again.â Concern was dripping her lips as she pulled into the mall parking lot and parked, but she had no intention on rushing out of the car.Â
ivystjamessâ:
âIâM HELPING HIM BECAUSE I WANT THE SHOW TO BE GOOD, ITâS IMPORTANT TO A LOT OF MY FRIENDS.â ivy clarified, then sighed. âlisten, i mean, mom, that sounds great and you know i appreciate the support but âŚâ she paused for a long moment, shaking her head slightly as she did. âi like my life here, like a lot. i like my friends and cheerleading and doing glee club and if in the future i want to do do broadway well then, iâll do it on my own, not have my famous mom help me.iâm not sure iâm ready to grow up and commit myself so much so soon.â it was difficult to get out, but she did it. it was never easy interrupting her mother when she got an idea. âand eli and preston need you here, too yknow! maybe we can do more stuff like that my senior year? i donât know.â a shrug was followed by a grimace, âand to be honest, the only reason i didnât audition is because i wanted to get even with you and dad for when you guys got mad at me for going out to that party last week.â ivy was sure to avoid her motherâs gaze.
Rachel was happy to hear that she was still helping somehow with the school musical. She understood that maybe it was too early for Ivy to really starting investing time into something like Broadway, but wanted to make sure that the option was out there for her. âI wouldnât help you get anything. I would be just finding the resources for you to sign yourself up. I believe that you donât need me to get you parts, you can get them yourself, but i agree. Junior year you can have fun and relax and even a bit in your Senior year before worrying about after.â Rachel said, âAnd I would be here for them too. I would just drive you to where you needed to go.â Hearing the reason of Ivy not auditioning she raised a brow at her. Never would Rachel sabotage something that would look good on a college application or give her some experience on the stage.Â
eli-stjamesâ:
As her mom spoke, Eli nodded in agreement. âSummer clothes sound good,â she responded, leaning her head against the window and watching the cars fly by as they made their way to the mall. When Rachel agreed to buy, E chuckled lightly and glanced at her from the corner of her eye and said, âcool.â As they drove, Eli felt the sudden urge to talk. It didnât happen often, but she knew at this point word was going to travel fast about her and Victoria and if there was any chance Rachel was going to find out, she would rather it be from her. âMom?â Eli started, straightening up in her seat and feeling all that nervousness she felt all those years ago, âI have to tell you something.â At this point, Eli had told her mom about her sexuality and she had witnessed her suffer through her break-up firsthand, but for some reason it still made her feel on edge to talk about it.Â
The drive to the mall was a good distance from her house so Rachel was hoping that if there was too be silence it would be comfortable instead of the normal awkwardness. She was thinking on things she could bring up. A flaw of hers was that she didnât really know how to connect with Elizabeth. Rachel was so absorbed with wanting the perfect Broadway family. So the mother was in for a surprise when Eli spoke first. If she wasnât driving, the mother might have hugged her daughter. A smile graced her face wider than when she got accepted into NYADA. âWhat is it sweetie?â
prestonstjamesâ:
â IâM NOT A BABY , mom , iâm seventeen â preston groaned , rolling his eyes at his momâs touch with a light chuckle . if they were more in public , like at school , where other people could see , heâd definitely be pulling away and pretending not to know her .
âYouâll always be my baby boy, though.â Rachel countered. Preston was her baby boy and the mother always felt more protective over him.
charlottexhaâ:
âI guess thatâs true.â She grinned. âIs Preston here, by the way, I need to talk to him.â
âPreston, I honestly have no clue, you might have to just go up and check for yourself.â
ivystjamessâ:
OKAY, SO THIS PLAN HAD TOTALLY BACKFIRED. ivy frowned and shook her head, âwait you arenât mad?â her brows furrowed and she looked at the floor, trying to comprehend that for a moment. âi mean i see your point, but iâm sure it isnât going to be all that bad. i have a lot of friends in the show and i mean he doesnât want people to know, but iâm helping out the boy whoâs playing mark, so you know itâs not all that bad.â she suggested weakly. just as she found her footing, of course her mom just had to throw her for another loop. âwait um, i mean, yeah thatâd be great!â ivy enthused, then paused, âbut mom, this is lima, like anything i would do here would just be kind of embarrassing like, the people who do community theatre are old and probably have no other source of financial income, i canât take that from forty-five year old sarah. you know?â she rambled, then forced herself to pause again. âbesides, iâm so busy with school and clubs andâŚ.you knowâŚâ ivy kinda concluded her argument
âOf course I am not mad, sure I would of loved to see you play a lead, but you could do so much better.â The mother assured. âYouâre helping someone? That is so sweet. I wish some people would of let me help out when I was in school.â Of course, when Rachel was in school she was a lot more bossy than she was now. âHmm, I could look around but maybe we could travel? See if i could find a teenager broadway club or something that is looking for more talent. I have more time on my hands so I wouldnât mind.â Just talking about it was getting the woman excited. âDonât worry about the cost, Iâll help out if needed. And Iâll talk to the school, maybe get you some extra credits like a work study or something.â She started to ramble as the ideas began to flow out of her mind and out of her mouth. âWeâll have to talk to your dad of course and see if he is okay with all this, but Iâm sure he wouldnât mind and if he did I would just pull an executive order and say you can do it.â Noticing the rambling, Rachel paused, âOnly if this is something you would like to do?â
prestonstjamesâ:
ADMITTEDLY HE WASNâT nearly as embarrassed the second he realized it was only his mom whoâd seen him . still , his cheeks were flushed and he mustered out an awkward laugh . â donât worry mom , iâm fine , telephone pole didnât doo much damage . â he wasnât quite sure if he should tell his mom what was going on , especially since he had a feeling sheâd be quick to tell kurt and blaine if he told her . â guess i gotta pay more attention . â
âWell thatâs good to hear, donât need my baby boy to get a broken nose.â She teased reaching over to pinch his red cheeks. Since Preston was her only son, the mother never really knew when to stop babying him.Â
eli-stjamesâ:
At the use of her full first name, Eli had to try her hardest not to let out an audible groan and roll her eyes. She took a breath. âSorry,â she managed to grumble out, letting herself into the car and strapping herself in. Her instinct was always to be an asshole to her mom, even when she was clearly trying to be nice. Eli was working on itâŚbut it was truly difficult. âUh â maybe free people?â she stated, the reality being that she didnât care. âAlso just to confirm thoughâŚyouâre buying, right?â Eli asked, turning to face her mom with a small smile forming at the corners of her lips.Â
Satisfied that it seemed Rachel had won that little dispute for now. The mother placed her manicured hands on her wheel and backed out of their driveway. âOh I like that store. Anything you are needing in particular? Summer is coming up so maybe we can start stocking up on that.â Small talks was one of the few things, Rachel hated that she had to do with her oldest, but the mother had trouble connecting with her. There is only so many times you can try to put your child in a Fanny outfit when they were a child, before they snap. âOf course, I am buying. Iâll be buying you clothes until I am six feet under or until I get too many grandkids to be able to afford it.â

CLOSED STARTER FOR @audrcymonorcâ
âSO, ELI TOLD ME YOU AND DAD SAW THE CAST LIST.â ivy was surprised she hadnât heard a prompt knock on her door or a passive aggressive lecture yet. so she would take matters into her own hands, march towards whichever parent she saw ( which was her mom ), and bring the topic up. âand i just wanted to say iâm not on it because i didnât audition, not because i didnât get it.â she let the statement settle, then waited for an angry reaction. a twitch of a vein. anything at all. and then, nothing⌠ivy frowned a little bit. âso um, what do you think of that?â
Rachel wasnât pleased with the cast list, the school was suppose to be geared to the arts and yet not one of her talented kids were on the list. She disappointed that Ivy wasnât on it the most. The girl was born with so much talent and potential, it hurt the mom not to see it being used. So when her daughter came in and started to talk about it, the mother already had her irritated spill released to Jesse. âI completely understand. I saw the list and I would be embarrassed to perform with half of the cast. I mean a washed up disney star and one of them apparently auditioned with a Justin Bieber song. I can only just imagine what the blogs would be saying about this.â The mother stayed in a tight loop, almost tighter than when she was in school when it comes to her children and what social media says about them. And it wouldnât be that much longer until the show choir blogs caught whiff of the musical and rip into each of the students, âI was thinking that maybe we could get you some auditions for outside of school. Where you can surround yourself with some real talented Broadway performers.âÂ

âI donât know about understudy, but the first thing sounds like something Iâd like.â
âExactly, next year you will be a total shoe in.â
