“Wait, wait… Hang on, that was today?” Lila asked the other as the worry started to spread over her features. “Oh, you have got to be kidding me. Do you think you can cover for me?” 

“I could certainly try my best,” Audrey suggested with a shrug. “But is there really no way you can get it done before then? I could help you?”

“I’m afraid I may have pulled you under the bus with me, then.” Simona admitted, making a face as they talked. “You’re probably right, but it would be so nice. I can’t wait until we graduate and actually have some free time without some kind of deadline in the distance.” 

“I’m not going to have to come up with some... elaborate lie or something, am I?” she asked warily. “Because I’m not sure how good at that I’d be,” Audrey added. “Oh yeah, me either. I mean sure we’ll always have some sort of responsibilities, but work seems a lot more agreeable than school at this point.”

“They are. Honestly though, give me anything with sugar in and I’d probably be happy. I think I just about run on the stuff.” Halliwell confessed, laughing softly. “And if you’re certain. I actually went for the apple pie Frappuccino.” 

“I mean some people choose to function by drinking caffeine– everyone’s got their own thing,” she chuckled when Halliwell said she probably ran on sugar. “Apple pie Frappuccino?” Audrey’s eyes widened, “I didn’t even realize that was a thing. That sounds really good.”

“It’s absolutely targeting us. What did we do to deserve this? I don’t think I’ve pranked or been mean to anyone important…” Simona spoke, trailing off. “All I need is a break for my break.” 

“I’m generally not the prank pulling type, so I don’t know what I could’ve done myself to merit this either,” Audrey admitted. “I always welcome a break too, but if we just had break time all the time would they really be breaks?”

“Come on, come on, you cannot tell me that burnt marshmallows aren’t the best,” Grant said to the other. “They’re crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, and they are so quick to make, all you have to do is just stick it in the fire.”

“Marshmallows are delicious in every form,” Audrey said as thought he was missing out on an important detail. “But the gooier the better, true. Have you ever tried Marshmallow Fluff? That stuff is groundbreaking.”

“I appreciate you coming to play the hero and making sure I’m okay, but I am- really.” Max commented from where he was currently sat on the ground, skateboard a few feet away from him from where he had came off it. “I’ve had a lot worse, got the scars and stories to prove it but I’m not sure you’ll want to hear them, apparently I can be pretty graphic when describing the oozing.”

“Are you sure?” Audrey tried not to smother him when he claimed to be doing okay. “It just looked like a pretty brutal fall so I wanted to make sure you were still in one piece,” she admitted. “You sure you don’t wanna stop by and see the university nurse or something, just to be sure? I’m sure she’d appreciate you going into detail about oozing, considering it’ll just make her job easier,” Audrey added the last bit with a light chuckle.

“I guess it’s chocolate milk?” Charlie replied, squinting his eyes in thought. “But the idea of having chocolate milk with ice cubes melting in it is not a pleasant one. Maybe they’d have milk cubes instead? I don’t know,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “Hey, if I don’t use my royal status for things like this, when else am I going to use it?” He joked. Charlie didn’t like plucking it out whenever, it was very much a thing he used only when he absolutely had to, knowing one day he wouldn’t have the luxury of using it at all. “Don’t tell me you’re one of these people that judges other people’s sleeping patterns,” he huffed. “I’m fine, everything’s fine, my sleeping pattern is fine,” Charlie emphasised. “And for that I’m very thankful,” he said, shooting a smile at her. “Same here, if that wasn’t already obvious.” 

“Oh milk cubes are actually genius! I really love that idea, you could use it for coffee and tea as well. Super practical,” she considered with a nod of her head. Perhaps he hadn’t intended for her to dwell on the concept for long but she couldn’t help herself. “I mean if I could pull out that card I’d just use it to make sure I got the window seat wherever I dined or to not have to wait in lines,” Audrey admitted, having definitely pondered over the thought after being friends with Charlie over the years. “Judge? Honey no, I’m worried. You’re my best friend– isn’t it basically my job to be worried about how much sleep you’re getting among other things?” she asked rhetorically. “It does sort of feel like you’re just saying that because I did,” Audrey couldn’t help but tease with a little nudge. “Kidding, kidding. You know I appreciate that and you very much.”

“It’s no problem, Auds. Honestly,” Maggie insisted. “I’m practicing my powers and making a friend happy at the same time. Sounds like the perfect thing to do.” It wasn’t Maggie’s powers that needed practicing, she’d gotten those completely under control with years of  practice. It was all of the other classes she was ignoring that the girl probably should tend to.“Wait– they have snowy forests?” Maggie exclaimed. “Okay yes that’s not the barren land I have in my mind. I really should come and visit so I’m not judging a book by its cover.” Mags shrugged, “Well it’s not my favourite season. I hate seeing plants dying, but the colours of the leaves on the trees and being able to jump into piles of them makes it a little easier.” 

“I mean, if you say so. I know I’ll greatly appreciate the lovely view out of my window,” she smiled, knowing it would be useless to try and steer her off of this idea. Besides, Audrey would actually enjoy looking out of her window and seeing that, she just didn’t want Maggie to prioritize the flowers over anything else. “Yes, yes they do. I mean Dyamond was sort of cursed to be icey all those years ago. Niveus is the place more of the winter wasteland you’re thinking of,” she mentioned with a light chuckle. Niveus was still a lovely place, one she found very beautiful. But to someone like Maggie who preferred the springtime, its very low levels of flora would understandably upset her. “Yeah that makes sense. Oh! Jumping in leaf piles is good fun. I don’t think I’ve done that since I was like six or seven though,” Audrey admitted. “That’s a shame on my part. Just because I get older doesn’t mean I should things like that anymore. Who decided that activities like that art only acceptable for children to indulge in after all?”

“Right? It’s totally something that you wouldn’t think of ordinarily but it absolutely is. Especially the little baby ones. It can’t just be the size of it, right?” They spoke, Simona was probably focusing too hard on the quality of the marshmallows but it was the way their mind worked. “I absolutely agree, it feels like this semester has gone on for so much longer than any other semester and every day feels the exact same as the other.” 

“Perhaps they simply pack more sugar into those tiny things,” she shook her head with a laugh, never having thought about it so much before this conversation. Despite that fact, it wasn’t bothering her to talk about this with them though. “Right? I feel like it especially gets like this in the months leading up to summer vacation. It’s like the universe is trying to torture us or something.”

“I think I have been looking forward to the warmer weather. I’ve actually gone for a Frappuccino; the sweeter the better.” She slipped the glass across the table. “You’re more than welcome to try it if you’d like.”

“Oh! Those things are so sugary... but so delicious,” she had to admit to the other. “Oh are you sure? I don’t want to be out here stealing your drink,” Audrey insisted with a light wave of her hand. “You can just tell me what flavor you got, it’s totally fine.”

“It’s true, we’re not,” he smiled in response to her quick comeback. “It’s a mindset you should adopt for all seasons, definitely. Though even I’m not sure I could stomach one on a hot summer’s day.” Not that he’d really experienced those, classes were done before July and he was back in his realm before he ever really got to live in that climate. “Considering I’m literally a royal and I don’t think I could become a higher class than I am, it’s really not bougie,” the prince chuckled. “Oh, it’s nothing to worry about, Audrey. I’m usually up until four in the morning doing something or other,” he told the other with a shrug, “Thank you for the offer, though.”

“They have iced coffee, perhaps iced chocolate should be a thing? Or... is that just chocolate milk?” Audrey caught herself mid-thought, laughing at the realization. “Alright, alright– playing the royalty card already? It’s only Tuesday,” she teased at his words. “I know that’s meant to comfort me, but it doesn’t really,” Audrey raised a brow slightly at him. “Of course, you know I’ve always got your back if you ever need.”

“They’re so much better than the regular ones, aren’t they?” They theorized, “Maybe we can ask when we order another drink, that way our hope aren’t up for too long.” Simona laughed as they took a sip of their drink. “It’s so nice to have a break from school, have you been buried under work too?” 

“I have to admit, I’ve never given it that much thought until today. But now that I have... I’m convinced you make a good point,” she replied to Simona. “Definitely. It’s so easy to get caught up in it all, but taking breaks every now and again to avoid going crazy are a must,” Audrey added with a nod of her head. “Summer vacation could hurry up a little though. I don’t currently have any plans but it’ll be nice to have the free time.”

“I am absolutely right,” Maggie giggled as she nodded. “Those are both such beautiful flowers, and now that I know that I am totally going to work out how to grow some underneath your windowsill.” It would be good practice of her powers and it would mean that her friend could see some beautiful things when she opened her curtains in the morning – a win win. “That is honestly so sad. I don’t think I could ever visit your realm as there’s like no flora anywhere. I do like to experience autumn, but only for a short amount of time. If I could avoid winter for my whole life, I would.”

“That’s way too sweet of you. You don’t have to do something like that just for me,” Audrey insisted, touched by Maggie wanting to go through all that effort just for her favorite flowers. “I mean I’d argue my realm is a little more Maggie-friendly than Niveus. You can still come across some snowy forests in Dyamond you know,” she assured her with a soft laugh. “Ah well, I think there’s something special about all the seasons. And the fact that they change every few months or so gives us something to look forward to. Do you? I would’ve thought you’d hated autumn as well.”

“Well I’m sure he’d be happy to help anytime you need a trash can that doesn’t actually waste food. He does have a bit of a greedy streak though I thought I taught him better then to go and steal people’s food. People are going to start to think that I don’t feed him.” He sighed, shaking his head at the dog who was simply staring up at him as he conversed with the other. “As long as you’re sure, I don’t want you to go hungry on our accord.”

“Maybe he needs more food than you’re feeding him?” she replied with teasing smile on her face. “But seriously, it’s fine. It’ll be dinnertime before I know it,” Audrey added. “What’s his name?” she asked, looking down at the dog fondly.

“What are they going to say? I’ll bet they’re just jealous of us.” They theorized as they took a sip of the chai. While it was nice, Simona was still thinking about the hot chocolate. “Do you think they have the pink marshmallows? They’re the absolute best.” They said, trying to catch a peek of the service bench to try and spot them. 

“Exactly,” Audrey grinned back at them. “Oh wow I hadn’t thought about that,” she admitted when Simona asked if they had the pink mini marshmallows. “We should most definitely ask. I’ve only ever gotten the white ones here.”

the feeling of boredom was extremely dangerous for someone like lilith. along with boredom, usually came plans to cure it, but her plans were nothing of the innocent sort, unfortunately. she noticed someone sitting outside and approached them energetically. “hey, loner!” she greeted with a neutral smile. “i had a feeling you’d be here. i’ve come to bother you.”

“You’ve come to bother me?” Audrey raised a brow curiously at that, initially having greeted the other with a classic warm smile. “You’re no bother,” she insisted, shutting her book to give Lilith her full attention. “What’s up? Can I help you with anything?”

“Look, I’m sorry- normally he’s really good and doesn’t go around stealing things. Especially not people’s lunches.” Nate signed as he spoke, his hands moving quickly as he felt the blush of embarrassment reach his cheeks over his dog, Merlin’s, antics. “I can get you something new- I don’t think you’ll want that back, especially when it’s slightly…. on the slobbery side.”

“No, no it’s totally fine,” she insisted, signing as she spoke like he had just done. “I don’t think I was going to be able to finish that on my own anyways, so he sort of did me a favor,” Audrey added with a laugh. “Thank you for offering to replace my lunch for me, but really it’s okay.”
