This is a sample of the first movement of my chamber symphony which will be released on "Music from the Inner Voice" on August 15, 2011. Welcome to the modern world, New York. A job well done. 

I couldn't be happier that my family is from New York - it all seems so wonderful now - if only "as goes New York, so goes the rest" would come true for this! This just shows that there can be Republicans who are brave enough to stand against the lies and rhetoric of the "wrong" side - the side that would continue to deny the rights of those who should be equal under the law, without question - without special conditions. For the life of me I can't understand why this is even an issue ... but ... that's just me - I've never understood hatred or discrimination.

This is a video I made to accompany a composition entitled "46664 - the Number of a Man" - the piece is based on the number that was given to Nelson Mandela when he was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1964. The piece incorporates a form of composition that I call "micro minimalism", using very spare materials for the source of the music. The piece is composed for clarinet and string trio (violin, viola and violoncello) and this performance was rendered by the program in which it was composed, Finale 2011, using the Garritan Personal Orchestra sounds to provide a more realistic sounding performance. Printed copies (via .pdf) are available for those interested in performing the piece (serious inquiries only, please).

This piece was composed with Reason 4.0, my first piece with this program. It is an exploration of the idea of "Ambience" in the sense that we often experience sound as a feeling rather than actual sounds - in this case the sound is the "sub-contra" low register that permeates the work. As a composer I've wanted to explore this element for a long time but haven't been able to without something like Reason - but all of that has changed now ... watch this space for new developments. Ambience 1 is just the beginning.
