In lieu of freezing to death or hurling themselves into a crevasse, they have elected to wait out the rest of the hour in the mundane comfort of a Tiny Hut. Gruesome efficiency has somewhat outworn its welcome for both of them. “Ah,” Bren replies, leaning back on his hands. “Depends. But often I am trying to kill the Martinet.” “Da’leth?” Thelyss's brows fly to his hairline. Then his eyes sharpen, like a cat who has seen the movement of a small, vulnerable creature. “Wait, trying?” “He is a tricky bastard,” Bren protests, annoyed at first that he has given something away that he did not intend, but just as quickly realizes he enjoys having someone to commiserate with about it. “Even off-guard, he has too many defenses to break through with the constraints of the loop—time, spells prepared, energy remaining. He is treacherous in his old age and not as fragile as he looks.”
