@aura-sensuelle
So last night, Trump said:
Biden is "becoming like a Palestinian"
Netanyahu should "finish the job"
He will "have to see if they (Palestiniains) deserve it (their own state)."
Using "Palestinian" as a racial slur, denying their freedom as human beings, refusing to denounce Putin's genocidal, fascist invasion of Ukraine. Like....it is so fucking obvious how dangerous this man is lol.
I'm sure all the slacktivists engaging in ignorant name-calling every five seconds will also be enraged by Trump's rhetoric, right?
No. They will say absolute nothing and continue to post gifs and memes when talking about serious Geopolitical issues because they think Donald Trump is funny instead of the horribly racist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, fascist monster he is.
Or they will "both sides bad, vote third party" their way out of it because living in a naïve idealistic fantasy land is much easier than acknowledging the stark truth that the stakes this election is much higher than they are comfortable with admitting.
Anyway, Roevember 2024 because I'm a woman and I refuse to in a permanent fascist Gilead which will destroy the lives of every single person who is not a straight, white, christian, cis male.

"She opened her eyes, lifted the lid from her coffin, sat up, and was alive again" (Grimm, 1857/2005)
Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997)
and hast thou slain the jabberwock?
again soooooo interesting how Juri’s knowledge that the duels/system are harmful devolves into acceptance and apathy because she literally cannot envision a future outside of it— of course tied to her sense of hopelessness about her love for Shiori/her lesbian identity in general, in contrast to Utena’s naive optimism about ideals of nobility, while still upholding the system, eventually allow her to start thinking outside of it.
This is not a duel to possess the Rose Bride, something Juri admits is ‘probably’ not possible— it’s to reinforce her own view that the system cannot be changed, and therefore everything is hopeless.
i feel like i don’t really see people talk about the christianity in utena, but like. utena’s central questioning of eternity and what it means to die takes place in a coffin in a church. marriage is seen as a way to achieving that eternity, and then deconstructed and in turn established as a form of patriarchal stasis that requires the maintained violence against women to function.
the name dios. the allusions to satan. anthy’s martyrdom seen as necessary suffering to maintain the transcendent spiritual good of the savior prince. the show is directly in conversation with how religious (and specifically christian) hegemony facilitates patriarchy through its logic being taken as a given, implicitly recognizable rather than deliberately constructed and operating through violence.
my fucking god ive been meaning to discuss about this but i feel like christianity has a bad rep so i didnt bring it up (im a deconstructed christian). this is a good take thanks for talking about it. please allow me to add that i think when utena continues to win duel after duel with the occasional possession of dios, its definitely very similar to how the people who god calls get powers or miracles during their obstacles. like how shadrach, meshach, and abednego were supposed to die in a fire but god protected them from the flames. or when god used moses to part the sea to escape the egyptians. utenas nobility gives her power just like how christians are protected for staying true to the law: love god and love thy neighbour. the ending is also symmetrical to jesus with how utena sacrificed herself in the name of love. this is true christianity, standing up against discrimination. your final paragraph perfectly captures how everybody else has no love so thats why they keep losing, just like how those religious leaders back in the day strayed away from gods love by committing religious corruption.

the fact that nanami and saionji barely ever interact is actually pretty incredible considering they are going through such parallel experiences like pretty much the entire time. they clearly know each other. saionji’s dynamic with nanami is even more traditionally “brotherly” than touga’s is. they obviously have some kind of history, entirely offscreen. my theory for why we barely ever see them in the same room is that because if they ever actually had a civil conversation for even five seconds, they’d unionize and become way too powerful. akio couldn’t risk it
they are never in the same room because they are the same person
one of rgu's best takes about rape and incest is that rape and incest are not deviant. they are exceedingly normal. they are, in fact, the logical extension of patriarchal romance and the patriarchal family -- the same logic that underpins those structures facilitates abuse, rape, incest, and csa. many people, even those who nominally understand the idea of rape culture, conceive of rape as a deviation from cultural mores, and even more people view incest as an aberration, a twisting of the Family (which is Good) into something unnatural and evil. but rgu correctly identifies that rape and incest are outgrowths of patriarchal society, not alien intrusions upon it. incest is merely a symptom of the problem which is the patriarchal family itself. rape and domestic abuse are merely symptoms of the problem which is patriarchal & heteronormative romance and society itself. rather than rape being deviant, it is resistance to patriarchy which is deviant; rather than incest being abnormal, it is a girl holding out a hand to another girl in pain which is abnormal. because 'abnormal' does not mean 'bad' any more than 'normal' means 'good'. "fall in love normally, get married normally, have a normal family, and have a normal life -- but normal has nothing to do with us!"
