so i have managed to amass a gallery of (checks one paper with a poorly written number) about 32 individuals. wild stuff. imagine having 32 unique vessels look at your work and think "yes i love the weird poetry i will continue to observe their endeavours". and i've thought about this for about all the days i haven't been posting as artfight comes to a close. and while yes i am grateful this is not a thank you post. this is a humble reminder that art is everywhere even in yourself and i'm going to show you 10 of the things on tumblr (in order of me remembering them) that i continuously drolled at before being convinced to make my account after a previous one left me SCARRED

the replication of seuss's style really struck me. the colors really sold it and howard's lovingly wonky anatomy looks so fluid. also the way they drew his mother had me reeling with such a melancholy that has never faded no matter how hard, long, or often I look at this post. my heart hurts and the only way i could shed that was through sobbing over my artistic medium. i love the way howard and his mother look different and yet the same aaaughhhhggsgsd

2. knowhere leaning in to carress the face of a horrified howard who is actively having his molecules rearranged played off the potential of the original scene in such a wonderful way. the smooth lean makes knowhere seem unbearably eager and the small strokes of howard's bottom lip pulling up emphasize so much emotion. this particular side view i took a lot of inspo from when i drew fanart of howard and phillip playing pool whilst knowhere watched. its just the vibe idk what else to tell you

NO I WONT EVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS DRAWING GO CRY TO THE ANCIENT ONES in all seriousness though this made me really inspired to play with the zany perspectives seen in game with the backgrounds and were one of the many (MANY) pieces that continued to have me head over heels for knowhere and howard as muses. the smoke from the cigarette and the way his hair is tied up as knowhere meets his determined gaze with a sly smile. what im saying is i need more art of these two interacting and you best bet ill make way more

5. once again. unmitigated whimsy and joy. how curious howard looks leaning in to the drawing of him with phillip completely unimpressed always gets me. its like a blend of the seuss style with the artist's own magic. its so good and i often end up looking at more of this person's works whenever i feel like i've lost my own magic and it gets me inspired again (also the little fourth wall breaking drawing with phillip's hat gets me every time i love it when people play with their drawings like that)

6. when i searched up the island of dr morose on tumblr and clicked the tiodm tag this art and these doodles were some of the first things i saw and immediately i locked the fuck in. i dont know if the first drawing was a reference to the creation of adam with the way howard and phillip reach for each other but it strikes me so poignantly because of that association in my mind. the way phillip is the light in howard's darkness GODDAMNIT MAN. the doodles are also awesome too i giggle and twirl my hair looking at them sometimes when im using them as reference for what i really like in this game's artstyle

7. another artist who's pieces i've screamed over continuously. though this was the only one i saw from them in particular before i began posting here (theyve made a lot more by then that has me in shambles). the lighting is HAUNTING and captures that air of terror i get seeing anybody play this game and encounter this fuckass moose. one of the best enemies in the game please tell me he went to sleep

8. i keep saying "oh em gee ive looked at so much of this person's art!1!" and that was never a lie but by no exagerration i saw this woman's art THE MOST and despite me loving every single drawing she does (particular the way she draws human faces i wanna run my hands over them) this one i come back to constantly not only because of the drawing of the sigil on phillip's back not ONLY because of the silly chibis of howie and phil and NOT ONLY because of the gender-bended designs... but because of the meme at the very end yaoi waters my crops

9. i saw a lot of this person's work on bluesky but managed to find their tumblr whilst making this post and some of my favourite art from them as well. oc x canon always makes me smile and this person has a very whimsical feel to their art in the sense that i'd watch a cartoon series made in their style. the way people blend their own artistry with dr seuss' never fails to amaze me and i find myself prefering a lot of these styles over the original thing. no other notes this shit is so peak keep drawing

10. see this one is a youtube link but listen this one is special because it was the VERY FIRST FOR ME. i initially wrote off dr morose when i saw a youtuber who i didnt watch very often had a playthrough of it. i assumed it was about a girl who went somewhere she had no business being and ended up being mentally tortured by an eldritch god. come to find out about a month or so later i was only right about the mental torture by an eldritch god part. to make a long story short the game's own had me immediately hooked and being scared of tumblr at the time, i went sniffing through youtube hoping if anybody had made even a 5-second animation that i could slurp up.

this was one of them.

i cant tell you how many times i watched this and laughed at it. phillip being pulled away by the tentacles. howard's eyes beginning to bleed as he passes every hardship by. the final scene of howard breaking in just as morose is cutting into a yowling phillip and all the angles before he lets the slingshot go. this was and continues to be the absolutest of cinema and it made me hungrier for more comedically dark content. thus leading me here

keep in mind that these aren't the only things i've seen, and i have a backlog of fanart for this game that is stored in a nerdy little discord channel in a crazy little server that i look and smile at. these are just 10 of the ones i remembered and i chose 10 specifically so i wouldn't bore you guys to tears with my rambling

definitely check out every one of these artists if you have the free time (and check them out again if you've already seen everything i've listed here repetition is how we make fixations people) and go shift through the tags for anything that makes your heart sing.

i am not and never will be a monolith for creativity but i don't ever want to be quiet about whatever i love again and neither should you. i would have never even thought about taking my ass back to this site if not for this game or the people i see be so completely normal about it every single day like clockwork. and as much as i hate to believe it-- i inspire things too

I mentioned about discussing parallels Angelique has with the boys so here's the ones I've noticed she has with Phillip

The most obvious one is that they both end up getting close to the Morses, with Angelique getting close to Samantha and Phillip getting close to Thomas. The difference between the nature of those relationships really sets them apart though. Angelique and Samantha end up creating a very close relationship with one another to the point they consider one another family. Angelique never feels like she has to prove herself and is encouraged pretty unconditionally to continue with her research. It's clear Samantha cares about her a lot as a person and not just a way to escape death. Phillip and Thomas, on the other hand, remain in a professional relationship. Phillip has doubts about what he's doing but is constantly coaxed by Thomas (aided by the stone) into doing worse and worse things all in the name of resurrecting Katie Lou. Thomas doesn't actually care about Phillip at all and merely views him as a way to bring back Samantha, evident in the way he jumps to sacrificing Phillip once he realizes that he's no longer being influenced. To me this difference in care also carries into them witnessing the deaths of the Moroses. Angelique mourns Samantha, missing her deeply and trying to bring her back after her passing. Phillip seems relieved at Thomas' death since it ends up saving his own life and frees him from the island.

Another interesting parallel is the massive difference in ethics between them. I've already talked about how Samantha tried to convince Angelique to stop being "too soft", but Thomas has to make no effort to get Phillip to start doing some really shady things. Phillip even mentions in first journal entry that he's excited about not having the government holding him back when it comes to his work which makes it look like he's been waiting for an opportunity to really do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He's desperate in a way Angelique isn't and that reflects in how she takes meticulous notes on what's dangerous about her gel and he doesn't hesitate to start vivisecting people.

They also process their losses differently in a way that definitely influences everything they're doing on the island. While we never learn who/what exactly Angelique lost other than Samantha, she appears to have accepted it (or purposefully avoids thinking about it). Phillip is constantly trying to get back Katie Lou, he clings to her memory desperately through the last picture of her alive and the pillow she made for him. He's even confused as to why others aren't similarly desperate, mentioning how Howard should want his mother back after her murder because it's an unfair loss. Angelique is the sort of person to keep moving forwards constantly without giving herself much time to properly grieve. She doesn't even take the time to process her loss of an arm, which you could interpret as her just wanting to get off the island as fast as possible, but she does take the time to be delighted her experiment worked.

The way some of you speak about interpretations you don't like kinda alarms me...

Like... it's okay to have preferences and to not like something... but using that dislike/preference to assume the views, intent, and supposed morals of the person creating the art is... a choice for sure...

Also, make sure your house isn't made of glass before you throw the stone at someone else's. I'm just saying.

Like I can easily say that I don't like yandere or obsessive Howard because the yandere trope quite literally stigmatizes and negatively impacts people with cluster b personality disorders. It is also a negative stereotype for many mental disorders and neurodiverencies.

I can easily say that I hate when people make Howard a skinny anime boy and Phillip a stocky beefcake because it's heavily implied that they both have the same body type in canon.

I can very easily say that I can see AnchorStar being implicitly canon both romantically as well as platonically because the devs have openly stated that they've thought about Phillip and Howard as a romantic couple, but they chose to keep it ambiguous because they want to see how we as the players/viewers interpret their relationship.

But you know what?

Those are my OPINIONS. Those are my PREFERENCES. And I won't go out of my way to publicly shame and / or yuck the yum of people who do see things differently than I do because that's immature and shitty behavior.

You have your preferences and interpretations, and I have mine. And we don't have to agree on those actually! That's okay!! That's the beauty of fandom and being human! Just... keep the fact that you're speaking to real human beings in mind before criticizing how they interpret not real humans!

i know this is my second to third post on something like this but i'm not sorry because this person is right and while there's not enough time that's passed to say what it could mean for the space (nor would i want to make assumptions seeing this is a small minority and this fandom is very new and very friendly) i am. a bit anxious about what i see

Howard is such a funny character for going “not only are you leaving me, you’re taking my dream job too??? Fuck you” to Phillip and then proceeds to write letters every week, not stopping until he hears that Phillip might be endanger and devises a rescue plan where a part is to gloat how he needed to be saved, then faces The Horrors while doing whimsical rhymes the entire time

Truly one of the characters ever, I’m putting him the mental microwave to spin him around
