Custom Content Recategorizer for The Sims 3 Create a Sim (CAS)
Hello everyone!
I'm writing this because there's a need for a cas custom content recategorizer in bulk for The Sims 3, similar to a more advanced CASP_Editor, compatible with the final versions on Steam, Disc, and Origin, that can also read non-installed packages/sims3pack if it can't read merged files.
Lately, I've been using a combination of programs (Granthes's CC Magic, Sakura's Sims3Pack File Generate Tool, EA Sims3Launcher, and Kuree's Easy CASP Editor) to recategorize custom content in bulk in less time. I use a separate EA folder in the Documents Folder for this because I play with merged files created with CCM.
Furthermore, the function of each program:
CCM > helps to view item categories and separate them according to main categories into folders (Hair, eyebrows, beard, tattoo, face overlay, top, bottom, body, shoes, accessories, âŚ, gender, and age).
Sims3Pack File Generate Tool > converts packages to sims3pack. It cannot convert multiple packages into individual sims3pack files at the same time. Not all converted packages install successfully. Therefore, there is a phase where the 50/50 method is used to detect failed conversions, testing them with Sims3Launcher (for example, out of ~450, it was detected ~15).
Sims3Launcher > Installs a merged or individuals sims3packs (in my experience, I was able to install a merged file with ~430 cas files with ~850 MB). But I prefer to install in stages, by category, to avoid confusion when checking.
CASP_Editor > Reads most (beards and eyebrows are not included, and some cases as I noticed xD). If there is a missing thumbnail, clicking on the thumbnail in CAS will help make it appear in CAS_Editor. Recategorization happens here, where an override mod will be created.
Some problems: It takes a long time to separate custom content by category and identify bad conversions. The CASP_Editor can't read all good conversions (e.g., eyebrows) and doesn't include the option to select several categories at same time. Since the CASP_Editor doesn't have an option to select accessories or makeup, I recommend installing them in different stages.
The preferred classic method is using S3PE.
There is another method that uses Sims MXâs Batch Resource Editor & Re-Categorization Helper Pack (old and new versions), were you can pick 3 main independent categories: age, gender, and clothing. However, this method becomes complex due to the various clothing combinations (more than 500 - Maternity, Random, Casual, Formal, Sport, Career, Swim, Sleep, Accessories, and much more). More information about this method can be found on MTS, with Cardinal's tutorial.
Fortunately, there's a quick method for recategorizing EA and CC objects in bulk (note: paste the cc package version into the Custom Content folder): The Sims MX's Batch Resource Editor & Re-Categorization Helper Pack.
The process of recategorizing CAS in bulk is quite laborious xD.
I doubt there is a faster method that also allows visualization. Let me know if you know of any ^^.
