Birds and fledglings and piglets growing into pigs. Gardens growing where you don’t expect them. And pies. Lots of pies because when you have a new cookbook, you have to test it.

July 1st-5th sees the return of Romancing the Vote. I have been plotting and waiting for this for two years and am so excited to take part! I’m donating autographed books available for immediate purchase, as well as auction items, including one of my last two paperback author sets of The Darkest Court series. And if books aren’t enough, I’m throwing my hat in the ring with a video call that will see us drawing tarot cards and discussing how they might impact your character and story plot! Hopefully something fun for all my reader and author friends. Keep an eye out for the official start date of the auction event, and keep the fight alive!

When you turn forty, you will want to feel young. You will want to go back and reclaim your glory days. You will do anything to avoid seeming weak. Just… please remember to eat food when you take that ibuprofen. The nausea and misery that will come from those pills hitting your undiluted stomach acid (like Gollum wearing a bandolier of nuclear hand grenades as he swan-dived into Mount Doom) will ruin any pain-relief you thought you had found.
Enjoy some farm peace.

When Katara goes missing in the Spirit Realm, Zuko follows and makes a deal with Koh to bring her back to the real world. There's only one rule: Zuko must lead her out of the Spirit Realm without looking back until he falls under the moon's blessing. If he manages it, Katara returns to their world with the arcane healing knowledge she'd been seeking. If he fails like the rest of the Gaang, she's lost forever. It's an old song ... one Zuko will keep singing even so.

Thoughts on the coming year…
Looking ahead to Beltane, and contemplating how the Wheel of the Year sits within the current agrarian calendar.

Okay, my best intentions about posting every two weeks fell by the wayside. But I have a reason, and it's even a good one. Lambing season is officially done for 2026! Throw in a bunch of "real" job work I have to get done and it's been a push to reach this point, but things are looking up from here on. And now the true importance of this post ... the pictures.

Busy two weeks. Survived massive wind storm. Lambing continues. Bummer lamb is now bottle baby. Day job is insanity. Made an angel food cake from scratch (our chickens’ eggs and home milled flour). Read IRON WIDOW (so so so in love with it). Working on SUNRISE ON THE REAPING.
It’s Saturday, so it’s time to fight more bullshit. Contact your reps. Don’t give up without a fight.

2.21.26 -Lambing season begins
First lamb of the season was born last night at 10 PM. Skye is our matriarch, and the leader of our herd. She normally has very good pregnancies, has incredible mothering instincts, and is one of the calmest sheep we have. Sadly, this time, one of the twins was stillborn. It’s the first complication we’ve ever seen with one of her pregnancies. In good news, the other twin, while small, was incredibly healthy it is doing very well this morning. Skye is a wonderful mother, and the baby is happy and suckling like there’s no tomorrow. I’m going to call her Hel, after the Norse goddess, in honor of her life and recognition of her twin’s death.
Fandom rant
Well, that took me a long time to gather my thoughts. These aren't all of them, but it's a start...
I was in college when Avatar: The Last Airbender aired and, as someone who was exploring watching ALL the things, it was a show I devoured a

It's technically winter, but it feels like spring here. The trees are starting to bud (some of our apple trees actually started leafing and instantly had those beautiful new leaves killed by the evening frost). The ground is spongy. And the robins are back, which is always the true precursor to the season.
Which, of course, means there's lots to do. The sheep will be lambing soon and we have a few starting to bag up already (yes, this does feel early and, yes, we will be prepared regardless). We got up a new kestrel house, bat house, and two new bluebird houses. We're working on swallow ledges for the barn next.
I've been baking and cooking a lot. Friends are having rough times and while I can't do much, I can make sure they have something good to eat while they process.
No huge progress on the writing front, but that's okay. One step at a time.
