For Autism Acceptance Month, I felt the urge to focus on Quinn’s terrible experience with a certain type of therapy that many autistic children were/are subjected to. For Quinn, this lead to masking, self harm, and overwhelming stress growing up. Because of her need to protect Claudette from this abuse, she was finally able to understand that her own autism wasn’t a bad thing and taught her daughter the same.

Misinformed and ablest societies are the reason why autistic people call for acceptance rather than awareness. We don’t need a cure, we need understanding and resources that actually help us rather than those that stigmatize and try to change us.

LUNA LOVEGOOD IS AUTISTIC TELL ME OTHERWISE.

She is very obviously autistic coded, but a lot of her representation was sort of harmful to our community. Besides literally everything else about JK Rowling... It would be in the best interest of very many communities to pretend she doesn’t exist and that her books never happened. I do take this sort of close to the heart, I’m native AND trans so what happened with the fantastic beasts series and her stance on whether or not I, as a trans person, should be allowed to live... Her disregard for human life is astounding.

Of course I don’t say any of this to be mean or shame you for your headcanon.( Trust me I know what it’s like to have special interests that aren’t really morally right to be into. I have some spins that I have to be very careful with. ) But I also think it’s important to stand up for what you believe in and not to give her any more exposure than she already has.

Okay so let me go ahead and explain why some things I reject for seemingly no reason when the character is obviously autistic.

I try not to put too many ~ morally ambiguous ~ choices on the blog, not because autistic people can't be evil ( we can and I am >:3 /s. ) But I mean that I try not to display characters who's negative traits are because of any implied autism. Like for example, a while back, I had Chucky from the horror movies as a suggestion. Unfortunately I know his back story and it is that of a childish man and they blamed his social ineptness and childishness for why he got violent. Because he was "too dumb to understand right from wrong" and "isn't it so tragic that he was like this."

I haven't really had the spoons to express this yet, but this is what I mean when I say I won't post characters that edge too close to that similar line. Yes bad guys can be autistic but not if they're bad because they're autistic.

Paul stims, has a special interest (and a very specific thing he dislikes), and has other autistic behaviors. Hannah has disruptive speech and looks to have sensory issues and stims. John is more of a headcanon through his "awkward" professional behavior and seems to have a special interest.
