NOEL W AN AUTISTIC GF HEADCANONS

𑣲⋆｡˚ noel notices your little patterns before anyone else does — the way you tie your shoes a certain way, the way you organise your space in front of you before working, how you always eat your food a certain way. every little thing you did that was just "so you," noel noticed. he always did.

𑣲⋆｡˚ even before knowing your diagnosis, he'd never question your behaviour. to him, you were just your normal self.

𑣲⋆｡˚ you did your best at masking around him and the band; you spent countless nights at the pub with him and the band, forcing an enthusiastic smile and joining in on their playful arguments and jabs. it almost came naturally, apart from how your shoulders sagged half way through the night, the mental exhaustion beginning to haze over your eyes. you blamed it on the alcohol, fearing their judgemental eyes if they found out the truth.

𑣲⋆｡˚ although, it all came crashing down after a particularly loud gig of theirs. you had forgotten to bring your pair of earplugs, and covering your ears with your hands was just not enough. you had been rushed off your feet all day, and your mask was finally beginning to slip. you were over it.

𑣲⋆｡˚ it also didn't help that the crowd was screaming and hollering, and you swore liam was singing louder than usual— and fuck, was the amp also louder than usual? your clothes were sticking to your skin, and you can feel each individual thread pressing against your hair, and it was just all too much for you. finally, what sent you over the edge was the gig finally coming to an end, and the loud feedback screeched across the venue, making you wince in pain.

𑣲⋆｡˚ panic settled in your chest, your breaths coming out shorter and more ragged, like you couldn't get enough air in your lungs. your mind was screaming at you but also deadly quiet, making it impossible for you focus on anything but leaving. everything around you was a blur as you pushed past the band, on the verge of frustrated tears as they called out your name.

𑣲⋆｡˚ you sat outside the venue, tucked away in some side street, sucking in deep breaths as you tried to focus on the calm atmosphere around you.

𑣲⋆｡˚ "y/n, you right?" noel's voice is muffled as he approaches you, concern written all over him as he crouches down to your level, landing a soft hand on your knee. "y/n?"

𑣲⋆｡˚ it takes him a moment to realise that you aren't 'here' with him, and he figures something must've happened. you open your mouth to answer, but your throat is so constricted that you can't even force the words out. noel just sits down next to you, patiently waiting until you can speak to him again.

𑣲⋆｡˚ "sorry i had a bit of a moment there," you say quietly after a little while, clearing your throat. "sometimes things just get too much and stuff..."

𑣲⋆｡˚ "oh yea i get it, those lads are fuckin' annoying. bloody handful —"

𑣲⋆｡˚ "no, i didn't mean it like that," you interrupt before looking over at him wide-eyed. "sorry i didn't mean to be rude."

𑣲⋆｡˚ "'s alright."

𑣲⋆｡˚ "i just mean..i...i'm autistic, noel."

𑣲⋆｡˚ "oh." noel replies, quietly dumbfounded. your heart races, as his eyebrows knit together, visibly confused while processing your admission. his silence stretches beyond a point deemed normal, only making your brain race with every single bad thing imaginable. "that's that...thing, right?"

𑣲⋆｡˚ "yeah," you mumbled, unable to meet his eyes. "look i'm sorry if i—"

𑣲⋆｡˚ "doesn't change anythin', does it?" noel questioned. "i mean yer' still the same ol' y/n, y'know?"

𑣲⋆｡˚ "yeah...that's true."

𑣲⋆｡˚ "right. c'mon, i'll take 'ya home."

𑣲⋆｡˚ and that's it. noel doesn't pry, doesn't ask too many questions, just silently accepts it. it's half relieving, and half worrying. although, at some point he offhandedly mentions something about "figuring it out along the way."

𑣲⋆｡ it obviously took a while for noel to understand everything, admittedly he got a bit annoyed at certain things but he did his best to never show it out of fear of making you upset or insecure. after a while, he leant more into the whole thing, his understanding shifting into something more warm and comfortable.

𑣲⋆｡ he knew your routine like the back of his hand and never dared to disturb it — hell, he'd kill anyone who interrupt his mundane routine, let alone your specific one. he even plays into it, abiding by your abnormal schedule and never daring to argue about it. he works around it simply because he can (even tho liam gets extra annoyed abt it).

𑣲⋆｡ bf!noel literally has a cupboard dedicated to your safe foods, and never lets the supply dwindle. he knows how important it is to you, especially if you come home from a long day. dare i say he's a bit of a lousy cook, but he has perfected one or two recipes he knows you love and does his best to prepare it the same way each time.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who got so panicked when he suddenly changed his shampoo (due to his little grey streak) which resulted in you crying over it. he couldn't help but laugh at how cute it was, but vowed to never change his shampoo again.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who loves listening to your creative input whenever he's writing something — cause you always pick on something he'd never notice. and you know his style. he forces you to tag along at the studio, and always asks for your opinion first on something, especially when something isn't quite right.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who knows you hate clothes shopping, so he does it all himself and annoys tf outta the sales assistants; he'll sit on the chair and show the assistants photos of your wardrobe, politely demanding them to get him clothes in a specific colour theme and a specific material.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who gets nervous as soon as one of your bed shirts start getting holes in them...because he knows what's coming. one time he threw out your beloved bed shirt who had a gigantic rip down the side, and you didn't talk to him for a whole week. needless to say he learnt his lesson.

𑣲⋆｡˚ wishful thinking but bf!noel who uses his celebrity status to get companies to change foods back to their original recipe just so his gf can have her safe foods back to normal. ps. he also does this with clothing! ^ specifically ur bedshirts.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who memorises the foods you don't like, and will always eat food your handed at a party if he knows you're concerned about eating it. he does it without question, and it's a bonus for him!

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who will quietly explain something to you in a social setting when you don't pick up on it right away. similarly, he'll listen you as soon as you say you don't like someone with your first time meeting them. and turns out, you're always right! he never really believed your "instinct" the first couple of times...but then you ended up being correct. he is truly envious of your pattern recognition.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who takes the lead in public, who will order something for you, or talk to staff and other people for you without you even having to ask. dare i say at a restaurant he will pretend your food order with multiple substitutions is his own so you don't get embarrassed.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who truly goes all out at anyone holiday that has gift giving. he uses all of his connections to get you items related to either your current hyperfixation or niche interest. he's had things custom made so many times for you.

𑣲⋆｡ bf!noel who always wears long-sleeved shirts/jackets whenever he can so you can hold onto the fabric around his wrist instead of holding his hand. he pretends he's not bothered whenever you wanna hold his hand, but secretly he's missing the feeling of your warm hand interlinked with his own.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who finds it so incredibly easy to navigate your non-verbal periods. most of the time, he doesn't have to ask, he just knows. same with getting overwhelmed in public, he squeezes your hand once as a comforting sign and quietly and calmly guides you somewhere a little quieter so you can relax.

𑣲⋆｡˚ he loves parallel-play and is extremely happy to spend the afternoon with you, quietly strumming his guitar while you're curled up in the corner of the couch/bed, doing whatever suits you. plus, he doesn't get offended if you move into another room after deeming his constant strum of the same chords "too much."

𑣲⋆｡ would it be cute to say noel has sampled your vocal stims before...?

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who is basically your service boyfriend and will help stimulate you if you're irritable and understimulated. and he's so protective over you as well, and will snap at anyone who says anything about your behaviour.

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who tries to do a little more research on autism, and it usually means him talking to some pretentious psychiatrist or doctor at an event's after party. he comes home and tells you he was so desperately trying to not blow his brains out with how "boring" it was (but he never tells you why he was talking to them).

𑣲⋆｡˚ bf!noel who is lowk super protective over you. he knows you don't take things lightly, and you feel your emotions much heavier than other people so he takes it into account. whenever you guys have arguments, he does his best to keep level-headed and explains his perspective clearly. he also provides lots of comforts during/after, even if it just means sitting with you in silence.

Chase Autism Headcanons ft. Blades (Heatwave mentioned)

I love our favorite autistic police bot! I had a discussion with another fan in the Rescue Bots community on Tumblr about autism and how it would affect Chase and how he might deal with it. I'm not autistic myself, so being able to ask questions to an autistic person was super helpful! Especially since I want to write Chase-centric fics one day! I want to portray autism as accurately as possible, and also throw in a few alien traits while being respectful and mindful of autistic people's experiences and avoiding harmful stereotypes in the process. These are a few autistic headcanons I developed for Chase from that conversation.

Chase's stims vary depending on his stress levels. Low stress stims include tapping his pedes or his digits, and other subtle fidgets like leg bouncing. If stress levels are moderate, he paces and flaps his servos. In high-stress situations, he uses more harmful stims like scratching his arms and picking at his paint and pulling the antennae on his audials.

To avoid some possible overstimulation, at least from sound, Chase filters out loud background noises, like sirens and explosions, through his audials.

Sometimes, on the more chaotic and stressful days, even Chase's love for the law and hyperfocus on doing his job and being used to Griffin Rock's chaos don't always help him cope, sometimes leading to an autistic shutdown.

If Chase ever gets overstimulated, he shuts down, unable to speak. When that happens, he prefers staying in a quiet, dark space to rest or even take a nap. Most of the time, he wants someone he really trusts to stay with him. Blades is the one who always stays with him during his shutdowns as a comforting, familiar presence. Sometimes, Chase also needs a strong hug, which Blades will gladly give whenever he asks for it. They've done this since their academy days.

Chase loves weighted blankets. Blades gave him one as soon as he learned about their existence because he knew he'd enjoy them a lot. They're soothing, especially during a shutdown.

When Chase is shut down and unable to speak, he uses chirolinguistics (speaking hand) to communicate. Chase and Blades know this way of communication the best compared to the rest of their teammates. Blades learned about different ways to non-verbally communicate with patients because it's a great way for medics to understand the needs of bots who might not be able to give a verbal response.

Chase and Blades have been amica endura since their academy days. They've been there for each other through thick and thin. Unfortunately, at the academy, some students bullied them. Mostly Chase because of his differences. Cybertronian society wasn't exactly kind to neurodivergent bots. It didn't stop until Heatwave came into the picture. No one dared to mess with him.

When they were younger, Blades would sing Chase's favorite songs and lullabies to comfort him on hard days and nights. Chase still thinks Blades has the best singing voice.

Me and @bluequeerio were talking about how Ragatha, Pomni, and Gangle are all clearly on the spectrum somewhere and how cute and sweet it would be to have Rags hanging with Pom and Gangle learning to unmask and it became this bit of the 3 of them stimming together.

Winter telling Weiss to make eye contact hit me right in the Weiss Autism Headcanon and after some thinking, this is how I'm interpreting that:

I've talked before about headcanoning that Weiss has autism and - especially early in the show - is repressing it

There is room to apply a similar headcanon to Winter, although if we do go with that, I would say she represses harder and has been doing it longer

Winter, for the longest time, had to repress, and by the time she didn't, it was hard to stop. Weiss was in a similar situation before meeting a certain silver-eyed dolt

While Weiss would probably have repressed anyway, Winter pushing her own repression onto Weiss definitely contributed

I've seen some theories that the reason Friede did not tell his friends he was alive for a year is because he is autistic and doesn't understand the feelings of others. I wanted to discuss this.

Firstly, I don't think there is a logical explanation as to why a character like Friede would let his friends grieve for a year. It was a lazy plot device used so that the writers would not have to explain his absence. While he can be forgetful, Friede is a caring character and would never put his loved ones through a bereavement. If there had been more of a clear explanation (ie. If they said Friede was being tracked by the explorers 24/7) everything would have made more sense.

Back to the main topic, Friede definitely has traits of autism and I think it's a good headcanon that he may be on the spectrum. However, having autism does not justify someone not contacting their friends when they are presumed dead. It is a commonly held assumption that autistic people do not understand the feelings of others, but this is not true. We can have trouble reading the room or knowing how to be socially appropriate, but this is not the same as downright disregarding someone's emotions. In fact, we are often very sensitive. Friede's actions were insensitive. Not only were his friends left to grieve, but it was nearly a year before he left them a voice message. Anyone with a brain cell would know how hurtful this is. Whether or not Friede is autistic, it does not explain this behaviour.
