also also. watching baelor being main tragedy girl is insaaane. yes, he’s a targaryen. no, he’s not a blond freak. no, he’s neither product of incest neither is he doing incest, nor does he let his children do incest. andal’s seven and knighthood are not his culture innately yet he choses to uphold its morals which directly leads to his demise. provoked into it by his triple platinum blond freak nephew. narratively his decision to be decent not only won’t pay off, it backfires spectacularly. seven kindgoms is the realm that farts on the notion of sincerity and chivalry, but he still makes the choice to be decent. grrm gets off on hopelessness and no good deed going unpunished so much in all his writing, but what he always gets right is that the making of the right choice is the only thing that matters. that what’s making you a knight, not the knighting ceremony. and if you fuck up you stop being one, even if you keep the title (green apple, red apple). what’s even more fascinating is how baelor’s aftermath sours maekar even more for the rest of his life but it stays with dunk (and sure, with egg) in an influential way - knighthood exists, even if it doesn’t pay off or avert tragedy. alll this to say… baelor’s dickswagger too strong, his vibe too different, they will.. you know..
